Tomlin was in the same building with KP for years.

He had a unique advantage to evaluate him, and as I keep saying he either blew it on the evaluation side or the development side.

There is no dancing around that even though some on here have tried.

There isn’t a market for Fields because… he’s not a good QB.
I am glad Colbert didn’t trade up for KP and i am glad that they are wasting a season on him. Outside of Lawrence the 21 and 22 class sucked at Qb most 1st round qbs bust

Lawrence isn't exactly great for how hyped he was, either.

He's not a bust because he is a NFL starter, but calling him a "NFL starter" is about as much as you can give him credit for.

Some draft news while we wait for the Steelers to do something in FA

Things may be different now and it may be because of the start of free agency, but typically no GM and no Tomlin at the pro day means the chances of him being a first round option go down.

I think I read the expectation is for them to draft a QB in round 1 this year, especially because they've had a surplus of draft capital in recent years due to the Wilson trade.

Honestly, I could see them taking Penix in either round 1 or 2 to sit behind Smith to start. Seattle taking the kid from UW to learn behind Geno Smith for a year? Makes a ton of sense to me.
That’s a good suggestion. There’s a connection with their new OC and Penix as well. They could acquire a late 1st and draft Penix if they wanted. Pushing him to the 2nd round doesn’t seem worth it if they really like him. If they’re meh on him like the Titans were on Levis, 2nd round is totally possible.

They are wasting another season on KP, whether he starts or never plays a down this fall.

They just went dumpster diving for another QB and now have no succession plan for the future.

He was a 2nd team all pro last year, and 10th straight.

$4.5 million is what they believe he could sign for, why not for cheap????

Ehhhhhh dontcha think that some of these spots are "reputation awards?" Especially ones like MLB where you can just claim a guy is awesome forever and he doesn't have to earn it through things like sacks?

Much in the way that, say, Pouncey at the end was all reputation award I think there's a strong case that Bobby Wagner is the same.

What about Devin White? Has he fallen off all that much? He was the premiere LB his draft class.

Devin White is Devin Bush with a better PR team.

I’m only kind of joking. He had a really good Super Bowl run but isn’t actually very good.

How much cap do we have, factoring in draft picks and such, around 24 mil? But how much will the draft eat up?

Edit: Think he's missing the punter we signed

Was a popular FA rumored to us due to his connection with Arthur Smith.

Not many good Cs left except the injured one from Miami I believe.
Concentrate on CB, ILB, S.

I know Cam Jr. said he won't do it, but restructuring is in the team's best interest. Hopefully he gives in.

I think general rule of thumb is to factor in around 9 million for the draft or something.

But they can and likely will restructure a few contracts to open up more cap space so cap room shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

I added our draft classes salaries from last year, it's around $11.7 M I believe. So if we don't restructure that leaves around $11-12 mil. Of course that was having essentially two 1st rounders.

I'm still holding out hope for Onwenu at this point. I'm not a huge fan of the CB options available in free agency, so I'm good with using another high pick on a CB, but I really want them to splurge on the OL. Having Jones and Onwenu as your OTs looks awesome going forward.

C, CB, ILB Hopefully we get one of these three in free agency. Big fan of JPJ if he's there at 20. Most mocks have him there..

no they aren’t if they have decided that KP isn’t the guy they got the a super bowl 9 pro bowl Qb that can actually help TJ and the defense. The plan was always KP mason/tanahil wilson and a 4th round rookie
Most teams don’t have a succession plan at Qb

Yeah we absolutely need to come out of this FA period with at least 2 of the following that can compete for a starting job: S, CB, ILB, C.

Something similar to our Levi Wallace signing a few years back.
