Honestly I'd do a 3rd for Fields. A 4th would be a bit more ideal but a 3rd is worth it.

Trade a 3rd for him and give him a guaranteed 1 year, $15 million deal for after his 4th year (same situation as Love). You'll have 2 years of Pickett and Fields together for less than $20 million combined, and if neither are it, then you blow up the QB room entirely.

I was actually wondering earlier today about whether it would be worth to use a 3rd or 4th on a QB to begin with. Trading that pick for Fields and going with Pickett and Fields for 2 years seems a far better use of that pick.

*grimace* The fact I'm about to object to paying out a guaranteed 15m for Fields says just how little I believe in him.

But hey, if they believe in him enough to trade for him, it makes sense.

Although if they believe in Pickett as much as they say, how much sense does it make to do that?

It's going to be us or ATL if I had to wager. Probably a day 2 pick

I think handing over a day 2 pick is my imposed limit of "don't like it". I'm okay with doing it as a roll of the dice. For me a day 2 pick seems to indicate some sort of actual faith and belief in him, which is not where I'm at.

Incidentally, I believe the Steelers didn't meet with any QBs at the combine.

I was in for pick 51 so if the asking price is falling needless to say I'm in.

I think we met with Bo Nix informally. But I really don't care for him or Penix at where they're projected to go. Too many parallels between Pickett and Nix for my liking haha.

I could totally see Rooney sitting on his hands while ATL kicks the tires on Cousins and Fields though.

If the asking price for Fields drops to a third, I’d be a little miffed if the Steelers weren’t involved.

I think in the second there’s still a decent chance for them to find an impactful player that can help out immediately so I can understand the hesitation. The third though? That’s a roll of the dice to find a serviceable player so I’d rather them roll the dice on a potential solution to the QB issue.

$15 million isn't a lot of money, though. He'd be like the 20th highest paid QB, where pretty much only guys on rookie deals make less than him. $15 million is Bridgewater, Foles and Fitzpatrick money. That's journeyman starter money, which I think is perfectly appropriate to pay.

The NFL salary cap is fake anyway, and even if we pretend it's not, it's going to skyrocket in the next few years. Hell, it has already started skyrocketing with the $30 million increase this year.

Best way I can put it: the Steelers took Rudolph with a 3rd round pick and Fields in 2 years likely gives you more value than Rudolph did in his entire Steelers tenure.

See I like the reports on Nix. I like that he avoids sacks, I like that he's willing to throw on the move. He might have checked down a lot but he was hella accurate when throwing intermediate. I get not wanting to go down the older QB rotue again, but he reads as the sort of processing play-extending QB I like.

You're right. It's not.

Yet I don't want to give it to him.

The big thing here is I don't want to get stuck in meh QB purgatory. The biggest thing I like about Pickett as a starter is the lack of rope he has. I'm up for getting Fields on a flier to see if he takes off and take it from there, but that's it. I don't want to make a multi-year commitment. Anyone with faith in him should make it... I don't have that, for reasons I've gone over a lot.

I like that he's athletic and mobile and can throw on the move, but I'm not sure I'd characterize him as a great processor of information, although that opinion seems to vary in different reports. Lot of predetermined reads in that offense and I hate that he never really excelled until his senior and super senior seasons. 60 college starts is insane haha.

Yeah, the next profile I read after that went "lol nope"

But right now the two profiles I trust most are NFL.com and The Athletic. Only the former is in, and Zierlein is talking him and his processing here a lot - Bo Nix Draft and Combine Prospect Profile | NFL.com

I dunno what Brugler at The Athletic thinks (although he has said he could go top 10) and Jeremiah wanted to be president of his fan club at the start of last season. But the Zierlein profile, I like.

The stuff about him being very dependent on the sideline for calls is worrying for sure (not in that one I think, but it is in others). If he was younger, I could say sure he'll grow out of it, but at his age, maybe it doesn't.

Just absolutely insane, freak athletes coming out of PSU in the combine. Note to Tomlin/Rooney: ignore Pitt schlubs (what they got like 2 people in the combine LMAO) and draft more PSU men. Thank you!

Don’t envy whomever gets to QB this team the next couple of years with these two divas around and the Tomlin clown show on offense.

Apparently Herbig is the guy who got namechecked as the centre guy. Figures. Wish they'd used him if they had confidence in him... but I feel like Herbig and a first 3 round pick as the future there feels more likely.

If Herbig plays center and does well Im going to lose my mind.

Ya my back reminds me every morning.

Sadly me too ! I have had 17 cortisone shots in different parts of my low back

Damn that’s messed up… is it hockey related like me?

I did throw out my back getting a water out of the fridge last year in front of my daughter, she laughed until she realized I was in agony.

It was awesome.

Getting old and severe back pain go hand in hand, IMO

Have had pretty debilitating back pain for 6 years. I'm 37. I quit skating completely 5 years ago. Started getting regular deep tissue work done. This past session she was finally able to get into the deep parts of my low back/hips and release what has been driving me insane. New man right now. I'm amazed.

Id do a progressive pick. 5 to a 3 if he does well. 0% chance he'd be getting $15m from a team I was GM of. I'd tell him, "Youre resigning homie. No one wanted you"

They went in hired a known disciplinarian as the wide receivers coach one who has proven himself at multiple stops with multiple elite wide receivers. The quarterback still has to command the huddle and run the offense

Ya I finally gave up skating last year… it was the main culprit for my pain every time I got on the ice.

I now do a lot of mobility work and switched from conventional to trap bar deadlifts (puts back in a more neutral position).

I basically wake up with a sore back (tried different beds, body pillows etc), do my mobility work, then my sprints/hit the iron.

That routine keeps my back tolerable to not too bad, but there is always a risk I blow it out for a week doing routine stuff.

If I stop that routine I literally turn into Quasimodo.

Roth had complete command of the huddle and offense and how did that work out when AB went crazy?

They had a chance to hire Ward, who wanted to hold all receivers accountable, but Tomlin said he couldn’t hold AB accountable, and Ward said no thx.

Another top notch decision from Tomlin that lead to great things.

When have they drafted a Pitt player outside of Pickett and Conner (thanks Chaos)? Besides I wouldn’t call Larry Fitzgerald, Aaron Donald, Darelle Revis (who was suppose to be Tomlin’s first pick as a Steeler) Jordan Addison, Tyler Boyd, Calijah Kancey pushovers. Name a Penn State player who’s better than the first three.

Ward has been fired at every stop as a coach he isn’t good at it. The guy they hired has 21 years experience coaching wr and over 10 years in the nfl with a long list of success wr he worked with.

Or maybe Tomlin didn’t believe Ward a divia himself could check AB

I’m far from a Ward fan, but as divas go he was so far down the list it’s not even worth mentioning.

How has Tomlin’s idea for who/how these receivers should be handled worked out?

AB went insane and made a fool of the owner and Tomlin, now he has two other divas on his roster that get into physical and verbal fights with teammates, give up mid-play, don’t block, have to be physically carried away from coaches, and whine incessantly.

It’s a culture issue enabled by Tomlin.

James Conner was a Pitt player.
