This is pretty much the same thing we’ve heard from Rooney and Tomlin so I’m fully expecting Pickett to be the starter week 1.

Didn’t totally shut down the Fields question tho but it was just Gm speak.
Yeah he basically covered every base lol. "We believe in Kenny, Arthur has talked to Kenny and he's excited. We also want Mason Rudolph back. We are also going to explore every way to create competition, including the draft, free agency, and the trade market."

Wiggins said he ran a 4.27 in practice. He runs that again in the combine and I don't think he's there when they pick

I don't consider straightline speed the only factor for a CB. It's nice to have for a top end corner, you need to have good speed but it is more important to have a great change of direction and flexible hips.

A good example of that from a draft perspective was Kelee Ringo. He has good/great speed but can't change direction.

The snippet in which he talks about Smith and Pickett is interesting, if nothing else because he's the only one of the triumvirate that seems to acknowledge Smith has a role at all in this

All in all, he sounds the most aggressive about moving things, but at the same time, I don't think he's bucking the status quo the other guys have suggested. Back Pickett, serious duty QB2 within those confines.

p.s. What you said about Jones - honestly, I don't think the Steelers really do much GM/HC speak. I think they're very open, possibly too open.

And the most important word there and the one that scares me is "eventually".

You're not wrong, but Wiggins is an ascending guy without big questions there. Plenty of 10-25 buzz already. Different kettle of fish to Ringo.

Plus 4.27 is about a 10th of a second quicker than Ringo. I think it's a really eye-catching number that might tilt a few guys over the edge.

Looks like the usual suspects we all know. I don't like Fuaga marching up draft boards away from us. Looks like they'll get the last of the CBs, the back half of the RTs, or JPJ.

If I thought they'd draft a QB I'd be digging into Nix a lot.

The secondary desperately needs that kind of speed. Really the entire defense in general could stand to get significantly faster.

These media members suck ass.

"DID YOU CALL ABOUT JUSTIN FIELDS?"
"I can't comment on free agents or players on other teams"
"WHAT ABOUT KIRK COUSINS?"

I thought the timing of that question was pretty funny and intended to be, particularly with that "and everyone else you've been rumoured to sign" at the end.

I have to say his answer on Fields did make it sound like he was talking to Chicago.

Honestly probably the truest take:

Yeah.

Which in itself is worlds apart from Tomlin's comments, which is interesting in itself.

Edit: Also a surprise

Because he's not good enough to pay him $17 million a year

Over the Cap put Johnson's 2023 season worth only $6.3 million. I think that's a bit exaggerated, but he's performing far below the level he's paid at.

I don't want to pay him but at the same time, I don't see why he'd take a big haircut. I know his stats haven't been great, but in his shoes that's a case for punting negotiations for a season and seeing where that brings him out.

Then you do that. There isn't a justification for paying DJ what he made on his last deal, at least not with the Steelers.

This draft has a bunch of guys that can absolutely sizzle. I wouldn't be shocked to see 3 guys run 4.2's.

I mean no argument here, just pointing out the likelihood of him taking a paycut is pretty low unless he really likes the Steelers and security.

Apparently Herbig is the guy who got namechecked as the centre guy. Figures. Wish they'd used him if they had confidence in him... but I feel like Herbig and a first 3 round pick as the future there feels more likely.

I'd put the likelihood at near zero ... because he's a WR and has a pretty inflated sense of himself.

What he made is the going rate wr 2. Tons of guys will get paid more than him in the next 2 seasons. If we any type of Qb play he would be looking at over 20 million a year

Texas WR Adonai Mitchell says he’s had a formal interview with the #Steelers. Called Mike Tomlin “the king of quotes” and enjoyed their conversation. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Report: Steelers One of Three Teams Interested in Justin Fields “A person familiar with the situation told USA TODAY Sports that the Atlanta Falcons, Pittsburgh Steelers and Las Vegas Raiders have expressed some level of interest in Fields,” Dragon wrote. Yeah the old "Person familiar with the situation"

I Googled how old he was and saw that Jack Deloplaine also died in ‘22… damn.

I played hockey with his kid Ryan back in the day (hell of a player).

Lost touch over the years, and sad to hear of his father’s passing as well.
Father Time is undefeated ! Sad
