Once again the stats on the NFL site are in alphabetical order. But hey whatever, guess it is Tomlin and Rodney’s fault for not changing the name of the team to the 33ers.
Yeah, I got that wrong. It is even worse.

Point stands. The Steelers went out and spent like crazy, and got very little for the money.

"Expectations were high entering this season for the Steelers defense. They currently rank No. 28 in total defense through 11 weeks after giving up 37 points and over 400 total yards in their Week 11 loss to the Bengals."

More like a mastermind of the circus.

They need to focus on stud LT, stud DT or stud corner.

Having a chance to grab one of those three in the top ten would be huge, and this QB class should push a few elite guys down a few extra slots.

Maybe package their two second rounders and move back into the first to solve a second of those three positions.

Or add a second onto their first and get in the top 5.

Depends how the draft unfolds and who is there, but having two extra (hopefully) high seconds gives them some enticing options.

I think packaging the 2nd's and moving up to the 1st is probably what is going to happen. It makes way too much sense.

Steelers have a lot of holes. Better to keep the two seconds and use them than to trade up. The two seconds are valued at a mid first round pick equivalency.

I think that the two high seconds have more value.
If they have a ton of holes maybe they should trade down and get more picks instead of trading up.
The defense with 9 ufa will have new faces and they will spend money on FA
The offense has 9 ufa but none of them will break the bank

I have no objections to trading down. Especially if Anderson and Carter are gone if the Steelers end up in the top seven picks. If they end up around eleven or so then they wouldn't be reaching for an offensive lineman.

Again though, if the value is offered trading back is fine with me.

Eight offensive linemen ranked in the first thirty-six picks. There will be value available at the top of the second round enough that they can wait if the board falls for them to address other needs.

Was it just last year or was it 2yrs ago where teams called out how predictable the Steelers were? Because I feel like that's not the first time this and last season that it was called out. I feel like it's been something that has been specifically called out in the last 4-5 seasons under the Tomlin.

When you have this happen in more than one season, it's usually a huge indicator that the coaching staff needs a complete overhaul. Pittsburgh sports sure love to hang on to trash coaches though.

Didn't it first start with James Harrison after he went to 2 other teams and pretty much said Tomlin blows by NFL standards.

I think I remember this, when he first went to the Patriots, he went off about this, no? Which would put it at about 5yrs ago or so.

Edit:

Funniest thing is Mike Tomlin is Mike Sullivan and vice versa.

I know he spent 1 year with the Bengals after us but I don't remember if Cincinnati was before or after the Pats.

Another thing he said on that clip was he doesn't prepare the defense very well week in week out.

Everyone laughs when I say it but heh.

Villanueva also took shots at the coaching staff, even if all idiots focused on was the Tik Toks thing, that directly has to do with how Mike Tomlin runs the team, zero structure and a lot of favoritism that allowed Bell and Brown to run wild and hid their garbage because they were winning enough for him to do so.

I didn't see Villanueva's comments, was this while with the Ravens?

The only former Steeler I see talk highly of Tomlin is Ryan Clark. Maybe he was a favorite (like you said) when he was there but the list of pro Tomlin is at 1.

Clark seemed like a Tomlin favorite.

But Villanueva immediately shit talked the Steelers when he joined the Ravens. Talking about how it was easier to do his job when the Offense and Defense were on the same page and the WR's weren't busy doing Tik Tok's and the run game wasn't ass or something along the lines.

Which essentially is a diss to the coaching, there has never been a consistent cohesion between the two outside of the years he first took over and the Cowher style was still fresh before Tomlin phased it out and destroyed everything we loved about the Steelers resurrection under Bill.

What I remember and liked about Bill was even after a big loss, you knew the team would show up swinging(win or lose again) the following week. I can't even remember the last time a Tomlin coached team blew somebody out on the scoreboard.

I'm a firm believer that a team eventually takes on the traits of their HC. This team is sloppy, arrogant and unprepared week to week.

Yeah, Bill also was a coach that if you laid an egg on the field with effort, you were going to hear it and the next game you saw it in their play that he ripped them a new one.

Tomlin wants to their friend so bad that he has no idea how to really be a proper coach.

I blame USC, all they needed to do was up the offer, damn it.

Agreed. And guys inevitably drop every single year to the 2nd round who everyone thought was going to be a surefire 1st rounder.

How things are shaking out now, if we cannot land Anderson or Carter and we are sitting in that 5-10 range, I absolutely back up if at all possible. There are 4 LT's that I think are going to be really closely ranked - Olu Fanshanu, Peter Skoronski, Paris Johnson, and Broderick Jones. We should be able to pick one of them in the teens.

A guy I really like a center prospect who should be a 3-5th round is Zach Frazier from WVU. He reminds me a lot of Humphrey when he was coming out of Oklahoma, just not nearly as big. Frazier plays bigger than he is though and has a nasty streak.

With how bad this defense is I think we are going to see Mike Tomlin fire Mike Tomlin as DC and then Mike Tomlin is going to hire Mike Tomlin to replace Mike Tomlin.

As I've said before, if this front office had balls they would make Tomlin bring in legitimate coordinators who have full control like Dick Lebeau did (which is ironically the last time the team ever did anything). Don't fire Tomlin, but reduce how much autonomy he has. This front office needs to be more involved. This family/country club atmosphere is great when the team is winning...but we haven't been for a long time.

I might have agreed with you maybe 5-6 years ago but Tomlin is pushing 20 years. They need a new voice.

I agree, but I think the voice needs to be from a coordinator. Tomlin needs to be a high level cheerleader. This organization has to spend money on coordinators. It's insane to me how such a storied franchise can be so content with no name coordinators. Bring guys in and pay them. Who the f*** is Teryl Austin? What a complete joke of a hire.

My idea is this

If changing coaches, Steelers are no longer the SB contending veteran roster that needs veteran well known coaching staff. They are just about in rebuild mode and not all vet coaches want to take on a rebuild.

While I agree with the notion unqualified people should be a no go, a good GM/owner should be able to tell the difference between someone who comes up short on the check list (even if qualified) to a young up and coming coach who has a plan and has the ability to it draw it all out in the interview.

A young coach who has a plan, the type of scheme he wants to run on both Offense and Defense. He WILL hire the people that align with his philosophy. So there is no miscommunication and if it is a young team, progression.

The problem with this forcing people (coordinators) to work with the HC is it never works for long and causes other problems.

Just hire someone who knows what he wants in personnel and in coordinators and it won't ever be an issue.

I know what you're thinking: well this is what Tomlin is doing right now? No, the difference isTomlin has no clue what he's doing. No plan, no idea how to prioritize the draft. No clue what type of offense he wants and no clue how to run or call a defense. He had 17 years and we've never seen progress.

The D let up two drives over 90 yards and 37 points, and they were fully healthy for the first time this season as well.

There always seems to be some scapegoat shielding Tomlin, be it a lackey coordinator or some other horse shit. The latest ones to be making the rounds…

Big Ben is old and washed up!

KP is a bust!

Watt is hurt!

I dunno maybe have like uh, competent coaching on both sides of the ball.

Even Heyward is getting sick of it and called out their inability to adjust and counter the check downs that lead to three TDs.

Three receiving TDs… by a RB. A backup RB!

Steelers haven’t let that happen since 1977. Ya, 1977.

Tomlin loves to set records of defensive futility - I’ll give him that.

I blame Benny Pickett.

I don't think this team is in a rebuild at all. The defense needs a NT and a CB and it should be top 5. Hell, it should be at least top 10 now, but yeah...

I think Tomlin is very intelligent. He brings in sheep coordinators because he knows he will never be challenged, and they will never be able to take his job. When things go well, Tomlin had his hands in everything. When they go poorly, he has a fall guy. It's brilliant. When he fires coordinators, he's actually firing himself.

I'm with you. This roster has talent. It's by no stretch of the imagination perfect, but with how this team is set up right now, if the offense can put up 21 points in a game, the defense should be able to win the team the game. They aren't even coming close.
