I wonder if some of the reason for the “silence” is due to how terrible this site has been recently. Takes me several minutes to type out a post now between the page freezing, waiting for the words to finally appear after they’ve been typed and of course the page refreshing and then needing to exit the thread, reenter, scroll down to the bottom of a page and then hope some of what I had typed is still there. That is of course, if you’re not getting that ad for free cookware that takes you out of the site completely and makes you open another window only for it to appear again the next time you change the page.
Holiday season too, still a lot of people on days off.

I do agree though if the site is for people on computers like it is for me on my phones then why bother. I usually read the main boards to see what's happening in games from time to time in evenings. Haven't done that now for two weeks.
A few pages late to this discussion, but the biggest reason the board feels quieter lately is because it simply is.

Over the years HFboards has lost a lot of traffic to more generic social media sites like Reddit and Twitter.
Probably a good thing. Those places are cesspools.

Not the teams best game, but a sound win. It's good to see. To beat a Torts team when you aren't at your best is hard to do. They work hard. The first line just willed the win, and Stu was great. It's good to see him coming around. There are way more good games for Stu, than bad now.

Other than the Tampa game, Stu has been really good since Knob came into the fold. Another big move that coincides - Campbell being sent down.

I maintain that the Campbell demotion is acting similar to the Puljujarvi trade last year. Just having the distraction gone is good for the team. The record in both cases supports this.

Whenever I run into this issue my assumption is that Im the only one with the problem. Now I know I have company in my misery.

That $20 or something that I paid to become a sponsor was well worth it. Now I can browse this site so quickly on my phone or old computer as well. I have spent $20 on much more stupid things all the time.... i recommend anybody who often uses this site to do the same.

Distractions are underrated in terms of how it affects the play.

Sorting Campbell out did help. A bigger factor has to be the Ekholm and McDavid injuries but the record was 5-12-1 at one point so there was lots of blame to share

HF remains the best place to talk hockey, especially as a fan of the Oilers. We have a loyal base here that put most teams to shame
I find it’s the place with the biggest concentration of people who actually know hockey (and a few that don’t lol)

I really enjoy what a lot of the posters bring and their opinions and views. Particularly posters like Fourier, BehindEnemyLines, Belair and many others who are very knowledgeable and add a lot to the discussion. There are many others I’ve missed but we mostly have a great group.

What I absolutely hate are the people who endlessly harp on every negative over and over and pollute the boards when times are tough but can barely bring themselves to say anything positive about the team and can’t give any credit ever. To the point that they’re ghost when things are going good but you know they’re just waiting for something to go wrong so they can storm back in with their bullshit.

Oh give us a break haha. Too much PTSD from the decade of darkness. Being wrong is great sometimes.
No.

The Decade of Darkness was almost a decade ago. Toxic fans don't get to use that anymore to continue to be toxic. Why should the pissy negative fans get a pass when they are never willing to give the positive fans a pass when the team is struggling?

That's the frustrating thing about this site, when the team is skidding the naysayers come out in full force shouting at the top of their lungs how stupid and naïve the fans that are trying to stay positive are, but yet when the team pulls it together those same naysayers are like "oh give us break" GTFOH.

the amount of lemmings on this site that just follow the lead of the loud-mouthed negativity pushers is unreal. those toxic posters yell and scream and their followers who just want to be part of the crowd jump in on that negativity and shout down, insult and belittle anyone who tries to be positive. Then those same toxic posters want people to then be ok with them because they come on here and say "it's great to be wrong", screw that, and f**k taking the high road, you get what you give.

Fair, I did see a bit of that, but not like I was "expecting"

Deslauriers wasn't dressed so thats maybe another reason why, plus Torts really isn't that kind of coach. He is blunt as hell with his players and abrasive with the media but he's never struck me as a goon coach. The Vancouver Calgary brawl was Hartley being Hartley and the Flames being the Flames.

I mean it was probably more on Bieksa for taking the faceoff like a moron. I thought Deslauriers was supposed to be dressed, that probably helped alot.

Bieksa took the face-off because Tortorella had a rookie playing his first ever NHL game taking the opening draw. Bieksa saw the Flames lineup and told the kid to take his place at D so he wouldnt have to fight, but unfortunately all 5 Flames went after all 5 Canucks. Thats why Bieksa took the draw, to protect the kid. That entire thing was on the Flames and why Torts lost his mind at Harley and tried to get into the Flames dressing room in between periods which still goes down as one of the best HNIC intermissions ever lol.

Sure...but if he doesn't take the faceoff they probably don't just brawl. I do blame Hartley.

They were brawling with the kid at centre or with Ronald McDonald at centre. The entire intent of that opening line-up was to fight and credit to Bieksa for pushing the kid to the D line. The poor kid wound up getting pounded on anyway but I have to respectfully disagree, that line brawl was 100% premeditated by the Flames.
