Went there for a bit when I as put on 'vacation'. Have gone back once or twice since my 'vacation' was over, and am not really compelled to go back.

As bad as some of the toxic negativity posters are here, it's toxic positivity dialed to 11 most of the time, and if you dare say anything critical you get downvoted into oblivion.

Plus it's irritating to follow conversation, it basically just ends up being a circle jerk of popular posts.

Somebody console me.

Sounds like a season defining game where the team and McDavid are finally back.
The way Philly kept pushing back had me a bit worried, but man the Oilers did not break. They kept fighting back.

Not to take away from all the great plays that happened, but the little things really had me more excited than anything.

Kulak jumps up on the play and what do I see, a forward recognize this and cover until Kulak quickly came back. It was shit like this that was killing us earlier in the year resulting in the puck in the back of the net more often than not.

The defense was making some smart plays yesterday too with and without the puck. Their awareness of their surrounding is far better than it was. Still got burned a few times, but there could've been a lot more chances.

Team toughness was something I noticed, those scrums after the whistle everyone was involved. Whether it was a 5'10 Hamblin rushing in or the giraffe everyone was involved. I also liked that Kane didn't take any retailiting penalties, couple times he was given a whack that I expect him to react to and he didn't. Could be because he's hurt though.

Just a small stat I noticed this morning, but our faceoffs were atrocious in the first. 33% in first, but then 50% in the second and 73% in the third. After Stauffer mentioned that Couturier was having a down year, but still over 50% on the year all I thought is yep now he's going to destroy us. But he didn't

Nice to see powerplay clicking again too, even though I think Leon's was just a 6 on 5. I missed the play and heard about it later on the broadcast.

Rofl...I love CP.

Leon played 20:37...averaging on the year 21:06
Connor played 16:35...averaging on the year 21:20

If they could ever combine their brain cells, they might be able to make a single Pejorative Slur.
I had no idea Connor played that little until this morning lol.

Rumor has it the Flyers are still being bag skated
The look on his face after a couple of the goals was more "how in the f*** do we stop that".

To their credit they did break up quite a few plays. Like Hyman said "we only talk about the ones that go in the back of the net, but how many other times does the defense make a breakup or the goalie makes a huge save". The Oilers try so many of those high risk or cross ice or no look passes and do them rather quickly, sooner or later they will go in with the way we've been scoring.

Carter Hart's numbers look pretty bad, but I think it could've been a lot worse.

Interesting stat as we seem to talk about it a lot here with the Oilers needing to get off to a good first period.

Going into yesterday they had 8 more 1st period goals than any other team in the league. Seems like yesterday we were allowing a goal on the first shot of the period and the game was over by the end of the first.

Didn't understand the Jack Michaels comments that Gagner and Foegele were the only two present day Oilers to have a 5pt game. Then the telecast noting Connor McDavid has done it 10X

Didn't understand the 5X either that Michaels called the Draisaitl goal a PP goal. He actually thought a delayed penalty goal is a PP goal. I'm like what?

I just want to shut the volume off sometimes.
They were speaking a half truth.
Gagner and Foegele are the only present day Oilers with 5, even strength points in a game.

Edmonton had the better goaltending and that was the difference. Hart let in some soft ones. Couldn’t get down into the butterfly quick enough on the first one and left Mcdavid a Texas size five hole.

Was slowing getting across on Hyman’s telegraphed back hand move.

Should have had that Leon one from 60 ft out but was slow moving across.

Lot of things to like, last night (and beyond):

- McDavid and the finish he got from Nuge, Hyman and Drai.
- Skinner making the save he needs to make plus a few more.
- PK, yes I recognize the Flyers have major issues there but there were 5 of them and they never dug the puck out of the back of the net.
- Flyers play a strongly coached game that can surprise a good team. Oilers mostly didn’t try to Globe Trotter like they could against SJ and Anaheim so they were prepared and had a low stress third.
- 3 of the 4 games since Xmas have been roll all lines til the end. Sure, 3 of them were against teams they “should” beat but you still have to get yourself in position to do that.
- they are not relying on PP goals
- The dominant O zone shifts with multiple opportunities from multiple lines. Such team play, unlike the 1 and done heroing that was often happening at the beginning of the year.

In your closet
I wonder if some of the reason for the “silence” is due to how terrible this site has been recently. Takes me several minutes to type out a post now between the page freezing, waiting for the words to finally appear after they’ve been typed and of course the page refreshing and then needing to exit the thread, reenter, scroll down to the bottom of a page and then hope some of what I had typed is still there. That is of course, if you’re not getting that ad for free cookware that takes you out of the site completely and makes you open another window only for it to appear again the next time you change the page.

A few pages late to this discussion, but the biggest reason the board feels quieter lately is because it simply is.

Over the years HFboards has lost a lot of traffic to more generic social media sites like Reddit and Twitter.
