I didn't know we were buddies in the standings!

If you fire Monty, we probably will hire him. A French speaking warm rock gets hired by the Habs....because it's no longer the hard core win-at-any-cost teams of old.

The Big Bad Bruins and the Lions of Winter are now the Big Bad Poo Bears and the p***yes of Winter...

I kind of figure they will go in house on an interim basis (my guess is Leach) but I totally forgot Gallant is out there. That would be interesting to say the least. He might actually get these so called new "Big Bad Bruins" to play "Big" and not just "Bad".

We certainly need a coach like Julien who demands structure. I want a coach who brings both structure and passion.

Honestly he's probably the exact type of coach they need right now. At least as a placeholder.

I second that.

If they were to fire Monty before Thanksgiving, the next coach doesn't need to be the guy who is here the next 3-4-5 years. Just one that you know can right the ship defensively real quick and try and bleed another playoff run out of this group through buy-in and hard work. An experienced short-term solution. Not somebody in-house.

I think I would rather let the ship sink than go in-house. That's just me.

Maybe I'm missing it, but I'm curious what people see in Jay Leach?

In fairness to the assistant coaches , it is the head coach who has final say. Another coach might have a different game plan a different system but can't implement it because they are not head coach. They may suggest something and Montgomery has said something along the the lines of: 'No, we're going to keep doing it this way until these guys get it. It's worked in the past it will work here.'

A person like Leach or Sacco may have a completely different approach. If you can't get a coach outside the organization then making him an interm coach to finish out the season allows you to find out if he has what it takes at this level.
If it doesn't workout, you then have the off-season to bring in someone new. It's a risk but better than leaving the current coach in place that isn't getting it done.

Oh I don't see anything special in him but as I remember he was a candidate when Monty was hired and they brought him back but didn't extend Monty so he seems like a possible replacement in the wings for them.

Where's Mike Keenan when you need him? That's the guy you bring in when you need a quick fix for 9 months before changing the coach again.

j/k

What do people see as the 3 main things that Montgomery is doing wrong or is not able to do right?

i'd hire boudreau for the rest of the year - he always does well with in season replacement.
even if he's a leafs fan  sort the rest out in the summer when options are aplenty

What do people see as the 3 main things that Montgomery is doing wrong or is not able to do right?
1) He hasn’t been able to get the players to buy in from Day1 of camp. They are disorganized, sloppy, careless, out of position and disinterested.

2) Special teams are atrocious. Where are the adjustments? What are the consequences for poor execution?

3) The team is in free fall and he’s been unable to get their attention and get them re-focused. They have either tuned him out or don’t believe in what he’s selling.

Now, you can say shame on the players for 1 and 3 and you’d be right, but if Monty can’t get their attention then they need to find out if someone else can.

They tried to become that team. That was the idea behind some of their acquisitions. But only the 4th line follows the game plan. The other lines turn it over 2’ inside the blue line and give up odd man rushes against.
Yep.

It's like each line is playing a different style and didn't tell each other.

It's so disorganized.

Unless the team gets killed again in the next game like 6-0, 8-2, Montgomery needs another 10-15 games at least.

If you get killed a few games in a row, then you can say the players have given up on the coach

I can't do the dump and chase again.

But he'll put the 4th line out when you need a goal and considering our 4th line is our best line, I guess I couldn't be mad about that anymore 😅
A lower end skilled team should be doing nothing but dump and chasing.

Preferably into the corners where they might actually get to the puck. Not soft wristers behind the net which this team loves doing.

This team can't even dump and chase though. We are in a rut.

For the record, I had no problem when they brought Montgomery in.
I sure as hell didn't want Quinn..
Montgomery's continuing recovery from alcohol addiction is an inspiring story of overcoming adversity.
He has had success at varying levels in his coaching career.
Eventually the league catches up with a coach and makes adjustments to the coaching style.
I keep waiting and watching and hoping that eventually Montgomery will make an adjustment to his game plan system, more than just shifting players around, but it never happens.
Been waiting since during that first round loss to Florida two years ago.
Which at this point leaves me thinking, maybe he only knows one way of coaching, one system and doesn't know any other way.
The signs have been there for a while.
He just keeps running the same game plan regardless the situation over and over.
In his defense, the lineup is not constructed to match the style of game he coaches; but at the same time his inability to adapt and adjust his system to maximize the current players potential can not be ignored.
If the players were positionally sound, making plays, working as a team, keeping games close, doing everything properly yet failing to find ways to win we could blame lack of talent - which may still be a different problem.
But the more troubling thing is that players look like lost individuals lacking direction and purpose.
There is definitely a disconnect there.
I wish things were different, but ...

It is time for Montgomery to go.

Carolina is a very strong team that has the Bruins number big-time. I'm still more upset with the Philly loss. That was pathetic. The Flyers are total garbage.
Even in an 8-2 loss you can start to bond over some things if you really hate to lose. Strange to see them always rolling over. Too much of the Dave Lewis low-energy, low pride. I generally blame the players but I'd like to see the players encouraged to show more fight. Maybe they are ignoring such a message but I doubt it.

lol well you’re not lying for sure.

Someone mentioned in the game day thread they don’t look like they know what they’re trying to do and I think that’s pretty spot on.

They’re like 20 guys all on separate islands out there.

Monty is not the right coach for this roster, at least as I understand what he wants versus what the players he has can do. That said, even if he is stylistically off, the team should still be putting in much better effort. Play style has nothing to do with losing 75% of pucks battles, not getting to loose pucks, turning it over at blue line etc. etc. Monty will pay because that’s the way the system usually works. You can’t fire the players or even trade most of them, but what we’re seeing out there this season is not really his fault at the end of the day.

I am also not opposed to sacking his ass and trying something new.

Just checking in to see how that Monty extension is coming.

I just don’t know who to blame for this. The man used the F bomb at practice the other day. After that what is left to try other than the obvious “be predictable to each other”? He’s tried everything so please don’t place any blame on Monty.
