In his last 10 games Skinner has a SV% of 0.916.
Thats a solid number.
Really good to see.
I've been critical of Skinner often this year, but really you can go back even further and basically since the team hit rock bottom (loss in San Jose), he's 14-4-0 with a .913 save percentage and a 2.37 GAA, which is pretty much right on par with his season last year but with lower GAA since the shot volume is down as well.

Over that 18 game span he's also got a quality start percentage of .667 with 3 "really bad starts".

.913 would be about 17th overall amongst goalies with 10 or more starts.
2.37 GAA would be about 8th amongst goalies with 10 or more starts
.667 quality start percentage would be tied for 10th overall for goalies with 10 or more starts.

If he can continue to reduce his really bad starts to 1 out of every 6 or more games, I can live with him as that is a pretty common rate even amongst good (non-elite) goalies. If he could manage to stretch it out to 1 in every 9-10 games then we'd be cooking as this team can even win with goaltending in the .850-.900 range since they often allow less than 30 shots (as shown by a 2-1 record in such games over this stretch).

At what point can I start advocating for Knob for the Jack Adams? The system and style this team plays is vastly different than the one that started the season. This team looks a lot more calm and organized, and I’ve never seen a coach that brings out the best in players the way he has.
Agree. In the back of my mind, I can’t help thinking if Jackson wasn’t here, Holland would not have moved from Woodcroft.
But whatever the reason, so very happy to see Knoblauch and Coffey behind the bench.

Other than the Tampa game, Stu has been really good since Knob came into the fold. Another big move that coincides - Campbell being sent down.

I maintain that the Campbell demotion is acting similar to the Puljujarvi trade last year. Just having the distraction gone is good for the team. The record in both cases supports this.
I'll state that Skinner was solid last night and made some good stops and big stops. I'll state as well though that the Flyers are not seemingly a great scoring club and that they have an incredibly inept PP. When teams are having trouble making plays and wiring well placed shots Skinner does very well. This was certainly one of those nights. Flyers were shooting a lot low, and into pads, and its not what I would do.

Games like this play into Skinner strength which is he's big, covers a lot of net, and his pads takeaway a lot in butterfly. I thought his pads were spread better in this game in the butterfly. Sometimes he's lazy with this and leaving openings.

I dare say playing Carter Hart always seems to bring out the best in Skinner. They've got that career long competition going. Unfair to Hart thought that he has to contend with McD, Drai, Nuge, Hyman level of finish. That shit just ain't fair. ;)

RNH is such an underrated PP player. He would be the best PP player on many teams in the NHL IMO.

He's the best pp player on ours, too.

The numbers with him gone are way worse than the numbers with Drai or McDavid gone.

I get that this board has an Edmonton slant in all things, but I look at it from the opposite angle. Bouchard's decision to pinch there wasn't especially egregious. Konecny's choice was hyper aggressive and it cost the Flyers the game.

Dude assumed he was gone before he touched the puck at all. If any of our forwards jumped the play the way he did here they would have been torn to shreds on this board.

Torts in his post game said essentially the same thing. "All we needed was to get a kill and get out of the period tied, but we got so excited trying to score and it's in the back of our net after we blew the zone."

Doubt we see a material change in net anymore. Skinner has his game back. I think the biggest change we'd see is they acquire some sort of cheap 1B.

Holland could look like a genius waiting this out, as we would have been obliterated in a trade a month ago.

I wonder about the financial health of the site if they have to resort to these kinds of ads.

Someone else was mentioning they weren't confident about the site's future. Where would we even go if HF fell apart?? I'm too old to start fresh!!
Given the volume of Leafs attention in the mains, we should just charge MLSE for keeping this site rolling.

My only concern right now is that I am seeing too many plays that arent conducive to winning long term.
Too many back passes to no one...too many risky plays.
The last 2 wins have been sloppy wins.

They need to clean that up.

Fair, I would say more sloppy against the Ducks (because they are bad), they need to clean things up, but the Flyers are good, so good teams will still do things in games.

Definitely.

These last two were 3rd in 4 nights and 4th in 6 night respectively though. Holidays were bookended by both a East coast trip and a West coast trip so I'm guessing there hasn't been a whole lot of time for practice.

Thankfully the next game is Saturday so the team finally gets a bit of a break. The schedule is just terrible this year leaguewide.

Agreed. that is how rational discussions happen. it's the shouting down of people who have different viewpoints of the players, or how the team is doing if it has even a remotely positive spin on it that is so frustrating.
Passion can be like that but I often state that McDrai times are good times, relatively speaking. Any of us that have seen the DOD times know that this is good times. As good as it gets in Canada in the NHL now for the most part. Which Canadian team has done better?

Its a pleasure to watch McDrai, that goes without saying. Its an added pleasure seeing Nuge elevate to the allstar game he's capable of, for Hyman to elevate to heights that are incredible, for Booch, Nurse etc. Lots of joy and good plays in Oilers games. Some opponent fans see very little to none of this in their games.

Honestly, if this continues the way it has been, then yes its a very smart move by Holland. I think #3 C and top RWer is our #1 priority

Some of it is context. Some posters have balance, some are always negative, some are always positive. Human nature. When Bouch was a defensive shitshow, I would continuously point it out. When McLeod was bad...well, he was really bad. Right now, they are both playing great. As long as people are fair with their takes, I don't really care if it is negative or positive.
I'll admit I say some pretty silly things when the team goes on a losing streak but there certainly is a few (or more than a few) posters that magically vanish when the team gets hot. It's quite amusing.

Its happened before. remember the loud half page flash adds that would come on? So loud you'd turn volume down to zero. NSFW either as everybody in the office hears you on hf or something...

Intrusive ads just won't go away it seems.

But it wouldn't surprise to see a dead wall some day like other boards have gone down. Ultimately the boards probably can't survive a lack of traffic.

You said you weren't watching any games anymore the season was so bad. hehe. Just trying to be funny. We all have our moments and its been a rollercoaster season.

It takes us to TDL at least. I think we still need somebody. There is likely however to be a lot of games coming up against relatively weaker competition where teams will have trouble scoring against us no matter who is in net.

A bit OT but the Kings have two more weeks of in hell games coming up and the Oilers have comparitively easy Schedule. This month we possibly pass the Kings.

Being negative sometimes is fine. Completely quitting on your team 10 games in the season is not. People were even going after McDavid who is the literally the best player on the planet. The player who put our organization on his back and took us out of a decade + of misery. It was embarrassing.

Fixed.

Plus that there were a lot of trade Draisaitl comments again.

I'm guilty as charged of critiquing players that do little. But to go so hard on the greatest players, it just seems strange.

Both players have earned some legendary benefit of doubt when things even aren't going their way.

Found myself thinking about Karlsson and Chychrun today. Not going to diminish them as players but I can no longer imagine them Being better fits for this Oilers team. Specially with how that move has triggered the Bouch skill up.

Vegas' schedule is pretty gnarly as well (FLA, NYRx2, BOS, COL). The only thing that may keep some distance up to the All Star break is that they have 12 games vs. Edmonton's 10 games so they'll have 5 games in hand when we face them first game post all-star break. 5 games in hand and possibly within 6-8 points with a head to head and chance to get to 4-6 points with 5 games in hand isn't impossible scenario here.

LA also has 14 games between now and the all-star break so making up the ground pre-All-Star will be tough for now with teams have 20-40% more points available to them regardless of schedule difficulty for them.

Sure he can come too. We are so blessed to have them and it drives me nuts people forget that.
