Not just Italian... Sicilian. And then I momentarily, ummm, "dated" another. My ex's grandfather talked about how he managed to not wind up in the Gambino part of the family by sticking to playing jazz professionally with his brother. Things could have been very different. Which also reminds me of this tune...
Refuse food? Insult!!I once dated an Italian. Her entire family was adamant I was Italian too because of my skin tone. And there’s absolutely no way I was allowed to refuse food.

Wrapping around to the other thread, my ex MIL talked about meeting her future husband's family and coming over for Christmas where the lasagna came out for dinner.
It was the appetizer.
The girl child has now gotten confirmations from five out of the six universities she's applied to. I still think her mother's idea of paying for this was using my life insurance.
2024 is off to a best of times/worst of times start at work.
Best of times: I get 6 weeks of PTO because I hit 25 years in 2024.
Worst of times: They announced a plan for a 15% reduction in force and are taking applications for a voluntary RIF for the next week and a half.
I work for a company who's bread and butter has been an industry that has been declining for decades. There have been a wide variety of RIFs throughout my time here. And given the increase in WFH since the pandemic, I am not surprised that they are once again downsizing and talking about trying to figure out ways to pivot. The corporate greed and lack of worker protections in this country is just out of control.
RIF/Layoffs need to be reserved for when the company is in absolute dire straights. Not because they want to make some more money and boost their stock price.
I've been laid off twice in the last 3 years. Once, it was understandable, I was a contractor for an tourist company during COVID. The last time, it was simply because the companies stock was doing bad after I was promoted in January. It took me 5 months to find a job....and I have a stellar resume
We need to change our priorities in this country. I wish you the best of luck man, but best case scenario you keep your role and have to absorb someone else's workload.
This makes me wish I could give multiple reactions to a single post

In addition and to my surprise, word is that the city will try to determine this as an on-duty incident. He had his cuffs, badge, was asked by the clerks to intervene, and ultimately took action within his official capacities. What might seem cut and dry to most people isn't necessarily so when insurance companies split hairs and logic to the Nth degree. We shall see how that pans out.Something good though it doesn't replace the evil done:

In a separate matter, there is a federal death benefit paid out for on-duty deaths, but determined by federal entities that are generally pro-LEO and less insurance or liability driven. I've heard this should go in the family's favor as well. I will happily be corrected from my first post about his family getting nothing. I still have overly negative thoughts from when my good friend and mentor died in 2001 due to his level of commitment that ultimately resulted in no death benefit of any sort. Perhaps times have changed.
I'd like to go storm chasing. Just once. Just to see what it's like, y'know? The power of nature and all that.
We had a tornado touch down in the small town I live in last year.Possible tornado on the ground here. Bleh.
