So the hinges of the cabinets are supposedly self closing, but have been not working the past couple of years. The springs inside of them are popping out because they’re the original ones from when my apartment building was built. So the metal is snapping. I asked my landlord to replace them, and he said no. Because $4 for each door is too much. He told me just go buy them and do it myself and he’ll either pay me back or take it off my rent. Big mistake.

I paid double for the hinges. And instead of just replacing them, I’m also refinishing them so they stop looking so old. He’s not happy because I’m now at a months rent paid, and still not done. There’s probably another 3 days of work ahead still.

And amusingly people in my building and the two next door are interested in how it’s all gonna look, and are thinking of hiring me.

Email and text message. So if he wants to argue he loses. He also did both to the building superintendent, so I have backup if he tries to take me to small claims court to say that’s not what he meant.

Those also show I asked to replace them because they’re falling apart. But both things showed to reinforce them. This shoulda been a quick thing but now it’s more expensive. Because it went from a simple thing to “make it right”.

Today was a bit eye opening. I found out my GM doesn't mind getting punched in the face if he can Hulk out and throw someone. Literally, pick up and throw someone like a lawn dart. Then I found out my one mamasan has an 18yo side chick that she brings out for special customers. Her I only found out as she was getting lady drinks but not in the day's uniform. Seems she's too shy to dress up, but ain't too shy to make me money.
Fortunately, I just have to pay bills and cash checks vice dealing with the craziness as it's tough getting around in rainy season when walking is a challenge

There's an author over on Soi Pothole that runs a bar / book store, he writes fishing books and biographies about the interesting personalities that have defined Pattaya. We've talked and gossiped quite a bit over the last year, he's currently working on the newer players in the area so who knows. His bar is kind of popular as you can get a drink, peruse his current inventory, and get a back rub while waiting for your favorite girl to be available at one of the three 'massage' parlors across the street. I'm strictly the get a new book and shoot the shit kind of person there as my spots are the Dive Bar for pool or the high end gentlemen clubs further down the street

Life makes no sense. Years ago when I was a teenager I was in a Christian punk band, and we weren’t allowed to play anywhere in or around my city. We only managed to play two shows in the entire existence of the band. One of them was at the church of 4/5 members (aka not me) and the other was at a bar opening for No Use For a Name. Because our lyrics weren’t religious enough or too offensive (to churches) or too religious (everywhere else that tried to support local music). But my city recently had a celebration of the city, so each day they had live music. Incidentally they asked us if we’d play the stage, even though we hadn’t been a thing in 25 years. We decided we’d do it for shits and giggles. We could only remember three songs we ever wrote, which were the most offensive songs we wrote. So we just decided to be a cover band and do songs we each liked for the set. Apparently that ended up with us being too “aggressive” and had 3 members getting arrested while the show happened, because we weren’t family friendly enough. Now we’re going to court because of some stupid BS “protect the kids” reason, even though the entire case hinges on nothing more than the city expected a Kumbaya My Lord sound. Their entire case hangs on the fact that it wasn’t the “right sounding” music they expected, which is what was a thing back when we were a band.

People do some stupid things. The lawn dart from Saturday came back yesterday with the Boys in Brown to press charges. Had to come in to do the CCTV for them. Well the young lad slapped one of the girls and then punched Gus, before he was forcibly ejected.

Even with the CCTV evidence against him, he still insisted on pressing charges. So he went from just walking away, the proverbial no foul to having 2 cases against him. The girl Nut decided to press charges and Gus did as well. Now the young lad is pretty much getting extorted for over 1 million baht, which a huge chunk will go to the BiB 'holiday' fund with Nut getting a couple hundred k, Gus won't see a dime. Had court this morning and bailed out Gus so the lesson is don't be stupid, especially in a foreign country. The SGT told Gus to just get the bouncer as he could have beat the kid with no repercussions

In the Panderverse
Y’know, the world needs to burn to a crisp if we’re coming out with grilled cheese as an option at a fast food restaurant. Especially if we’re piecing out a half brick of cheese, in slice form, of an inferior cheese. At least throw a slice of bacon on it!
I was traveling last week for work (on vacation long weekend, work starts tomorrow again). Wasn't too hungry one evening so ordered a Caesar salad. I told them to not add protein. It was a good call, because it came with about 1 cup worth of bacon crumbles on it. That's their house specialty Caesar salad - it didn't say it came with bacon. It was a culinary revelation!!! I'm very serious about never eating a Caesar salad without bacon again...

Welp, our 2 week camping trip starts tomorrow. My comfort level with "outside" is however long it takes for me to get from my car to my house. I'm bringing a figurative ton of books, to hopefully help me forget the heat, humidity, and insects. Choice highlights include William Gibson, Brandon Sanderson, and John La Carre.

Bacon is supposed to be a given when it comes to a Caesar salad. I’m disappointed when it doesn’t have it.

Agreed! Mistborn, particularly the first book, is tremendous. And I love what he did at the end of The Wheel of Time. I emailed him after the first Sanderson/RJ book was released and asked a couple of questions, and he responded to me within a few weeks. I was impressed that he took the time to reply, and it was a rather lengthy email. As an [at the time] aspiring writer who hadn't finished a novel yet, seeing the way a soon to be megastar of the writing world treated fans was inspiring.

I like it with real bacon pieces and with anchovies on the side.
