I am told he is great defensively, and he's a proven 100 point player. We haven't had a 100 point player in 40 years since Mats Naslund.. that's a sad statistic.

I can't tell if your serious or not but it just wouldn't work. We need to look for a good center as a compliment to Suzuki and the only way we find a better one is if Hage turns out to be that or some free agent wants to be here.
We need another top 2 center right now, we're only 3 points out we should be going all in. Get us the best center available without having to trade crucial roster players.

Yeah, the best player on a team that finished 4th in the league that year. At 17, on a team with a number of 19-20 year olds. Add that he was 6'4", very good skater, great hands, playmaking and its easy to see why he was a top 5-10 pick all day long. Sennecke was drafted 3rd with 68 in 63 just last year for similar reasons. Hell, Dach was showing why he was picked high here until his knee was destroyed. He's done now, but there's no need for any revisionism.

Kirby Dach's are a dime a dozen in jr hockey, stop pretending he was a rare gem

Sign Rantanen for now until we can get a true 2C.

Other than Petterson who else *could be available? EP is so risky too

All I know is that Caufield clearly is better after having a year after recovering from his injury so we should extend that courtesy to Laine…but never should’ve with Dach because he’s a bum and always was!

Caufield immediately after his injury was still twice the player Dach was and has ever been.

Those players you listed didn’t have the same production on Chicago.

Debrincat 23 y/o 41g 37a 78 pts 82g
last year of contract

Hagel 23 y/o 21g 16a 37 pts 55g

Stroke 25 y/o 22g 26a 48 pts 69g UFA

Dach 21 y/o 9g 17 a 26 pts 70 g

Debrincat, Hagel and Strome combined for 84 goals and Dach 9 goals.

Dach didn’t scream “ I will screw the tank for Bédard.”

My guess is that Chicago saw something throughout the 3 seasons Dach was with the team, whether it’s not taking is rehabilitation or his training seriously, maybe he took lazy stupid penalties like he does with Montreal, maybe he had poor work ethic, was often uninvolved and was nonchalant during many games.

Also, the argument that he sustained a serious injury and that it might take time to get back to game shape, how long will it take? As far as I am concerned, many players were in the end of serious injuries and came back better than ever, those are warriors, fighters and leaders. Dach is none of this and we are all witnessing it.
He just doesn’t have what it takes.
Don't think you got my point. It made no sense to trade productive 23 years old players when starting a rebuild. We did not trade Caufield or Suzuki when we started ours. So assuming Chicago saw something other than the injuries is ridiculous. They went for a scorched earth rebuild for Bedard. They basically traded everyone why had any kind of value.

Is there a credible path for Kirby Dach overcoming these setbacks and eventually playing up to his prior expectations, of being an effective second line center?

What would need to happen?

At this point my most realistic hope can be for him to bounce back and become like a Bjugstad type who also dealt with some tough injuries. It took him like 5 years to happen though... Dunno if HuGo will be that patient with Dach.

Next year I can see them roll with this:

Slaf - Suzuki - Caufield
Demidov - Vet C - Laine
Heineman - Newhook - Anderson
Gallagher - Beck - Dach

work his ass off, stay healthy, and pray.
I'm very concerned about how much real playing time it took Dach to become even somewhat successful. His struggles defensively were well documented and never went away. We can't afford that -27 bullshit next season I'm not confident he'll show up ready to play.

Have we ever seen a young players suffer that many injuries and became someone relevant? Can’t think of any, at least with the habs.
Yes Benoit Brunet.

I know Kirby will be Dach, but major injuries in Dach to Dach to Dach years is concerning.

I don't believe Kirby will ever get Dach to the player he was for a couple months prior to his 1st injury and tje Habs can't keep looking Dach. Time to move forward and get a real #2C.

Yes Benoit Brunet.
Brunet carrer high is 14 goals and 31 pts. Not saying it’s not relevant but that’s pretty much what Dach is right now. I meant someone making 60pts+ a year. Dach was not drafted 3rd ov to be a 35pts player.

Nothing Habs can do regarding Dach. If a a2C is available via trade then go for it otherwise wait another season and hope Hage pans out.

Out of the box option is try Demidov at c.

Brunet was a very good defensive player who was able to find a role and win a Cup.
We'd be fortunate as hell at this point if Dach can do that.

Don’t think Dach has the two way player in him. Was never his identity, don’t think he will developp that at 25, but hey who knows.
