Agreed, I loved Kadri, I understood why they did it and qt the time I thought we made out okay but immediately it became apparent we made a mistake.

Marner is my favourite leaf, I can’t believe we want to get rid of a 90+ Scoring winger. But the grass is greener for some. A part of me wishes they do trade him just so we can stop hearing all the constant bitching
It would be moronic to trade Marner now, but wise to demand more.

It would be moronic to pay Marner 11+ in his 30s if he doesn't meet demands.

I don't think anyone lets Marner go in his prime unless it is a kings ransom back. We have to sink or swim with him. But during times of sinking, and it's been much more sinking, he must shoulder a lot of the blame and most is deserved.

The issue with the mid-season firing, is that it would likely just put in place and interim GM, who's not going to be allowed to make any major moves, not that one would want a temporary one making t moves either.

At the moment they're simply aren't many strong candidates available, who aren't already under contract (Trotz is one of the few people I can think of who would be available). The offseason is when the team will have a lot more flexibility If they're looking to hire a new front office staff.

If Shanahan was going to change GM's it would/should have happened in the recent offseason. Now he's just going to have to ride it out throughout the course of the year and either he, or the MLSE board will make a new decision in the summer of 2023
Cannot let a Lame duck gm make changes that are going to be needed this year!

Dubas is responsible for the roster, not Mitch Marner. Those hating on Mitch have misdirected their anger imo.
Dubas is responsible for the roster, but Marner shouldn't act like a spoiled brat under any slight criticism. Should Marner not be held accountable?

Another false narrative that Dubas doesn't like grit

And right now, the core's complete ineptitude at ES is a much bigger issue than anything that has to do with Dubas' roster construction.

So Mitch Marner deserves the heat. So does Matthews... And to an extent Tavares and Nylander since their ES numbers have been bad too.

If these core guys were holding up their end of the bargain, we have a much better record than 4-4-2 and most of these threads do not exist right now. The entire talk would be about whether they can do it in the playoffs... Or "regular season doesn't matter".

Sure, we may still need more out of the defense and the bottom 6, which would be more of a place to scrutinize Dubas' roster construction, but the core's poor play has had a major wrinkle effect on everything else and makes it hard to really determine if these guys suck or they are being forced to make up for a top 6 which has consistently made this team chase games from behind.

He acquired all those players but then let them go. So it’s not a false narrative. He ultimately decided his teams would be better off without those players

Pretty much. Dubas has gone from making a skilled team that comes in waves to a slow team, and made you think what has he done.
The narrative will still be Dubas made a soft team. He's changed directions in an extreme way. Why that is? Is it him falling for media pressure or old boys club?
I'm almost guaranteeing the vision Dubas had initially is not this current team.

Dude, you flip flop on every post. Now you claim this wasn’t Dubas’ plan? Who’s calling the shots than? The illuminati? Klaus Schwab?

This is Dubas teams, there is not one player on the team who Dubas didn't signed, extended, traded for or drafted.

Yes, the whole team is underperforming esp the top guys but these are guys that Dubas betted on. He needs to take accountability on that. It is like betting on the black in roulette. If you lose, you can't blame the table for losing your money by not landing on black bc ultimately you made the bet.

I am gonna lose my shit if montreal freakin' rebuilds faster than us and goes on deep runs and leafs are still the laughing stock of the league.

and when/if that happens and I see people here still defending this gm I am gonna freakin absolutely lose it.

Issues with the Dubas plan and roster were obvious a year or two into his tenure Those who understand hockey could see it from a mile away. It was a pretty small subset of fans who seemed to recognize it early. It seems a good chunk of the fan base has finally figured it out. Some are hanging onto hope that Dubas moneyball style of roster building will still work.

Don't worry, if thats the case, McDavid will come and save the day.

I still remember saying we needed D-men when they went after Tavares I was flamed hard.

Then when matthews and esepcially marner contracts were announced i was flamed again.

hypothettically speaking suppose this team figures out and makes playoffs i am pretty sure they will lose again in the 1st round.

might as well tank and get a high pick and build for the future. this team the way it is with the goalie situation and defense and no quality depth isn't a team that will go deep in teh playoffs. and all of this is on the gm for cap structure, cap allocation, team composition and mostly team culture which is entitled

you shouldn't be to tough on Sticky , with Dubie not extended and the team struggling he's beside himself with fear that the end is near for his boy and he's not thinking clearly
