Brendan Shanahan does not strike me as a hockey executive with many in-depth opinions on current players. He leaves player evaluation to the underlings. It's too bad Ken Dryden wasn't the team's president. His first act as president was forcing his executive to source a more sure thing than 1998 Felix Potvin (who in truth may have been a more sure thing than any goalie in the organization right now).

I have been saying for years that history is our best teacher.

The last playoff success this team had was with CuJo and then Belfour in net.
Not a coincidence.

I believe Kyle's model of highly paid star players and fill out the roster works if one of your stars is a goalie.
YOU NEED A STAR IN net to win in the playoffs unless you are unworldly talented otherwise.

Murray is not an asset he's a liability hence Ottawa giving up a pick to get rid of him. Also if you're talking about a 3rd round pick, it isn't a good enough asset to take on that contract.

I don't think it was a good pick up but I can see why it wasn't vetoed

There isn't any one move that would get him fired.

Continued lack of success in the playoffs, and probably this year if they fail to win a round, would be it. As it should be.

I mean if he’s forced to retire we get the cap hit bac and we get draft pics I guess that’s what I’m hoping for anyway

So if they win a round, he’s safe? Wow, the bar is low here. With so much “elite talent” on this team, it should ECF or bust

Trading for Chychrun would probably do it because we all know Dumbass will over pay in the trade & then over pay Chychrun to resign here.

The jump to extreme takes is amusing.

I didn't say, if we win a round he's safe. I said, if we don't, he's out.

Marner has been off yet trends at 88 points for a full season. Kind of laughable that the OP pulls this shit every year trying for a viable comparison of Marner vs Nylander. I wish people would leave sleeping dogs lie. It is so tiresome. How many years does this need to be rehashed in one form or another?

I said it before but it's the Marner contract. It was just a terrible deal and there was no comparable too it. He's also been the worst playoff performer in the playoffs from the core. It's kind of disgusting people go on after Nylander, but Marner's mistakes are a lot worse however because "he works hard" so he doesn't get criticized as much.

He also went after the fans. Just a disgrace to the jersey and his dad too

Your pro Nylander anti Marner agenda on every chance is very disgusting and annoying. Mitch didn't have the strongest start this season but looked better the last few games I'd say ...

Both the Nylander and Marner contracts have performed better than I expected.

At the time, I wasn't at all impressed with the hard negostance of both players, and I wouldn't have minded at all if the Leafs had let either or both go. Since then, I've been pleasantly surprised and I'm glad that I wasn't in charge and cooler heads prevailed.

It also seems that Dubas has been living with the fruit of his works, by living under an excessively tight salary-cap condition, and he has become a much tougher, more prudent bargaining agent for the Leafs.

I didn't mind at all when he let Hyman, Campbell and Mikheyev walk, and I don't know that he would have done that three years ago.

If and when the cap rises, I think Dubas will take a deep breath and will be a much tougher negotiator than he has ever been before.

That development is an investment the Leafs have made in him and their entire management team, up to and including Shanahan.

I find it perfect that the only thing you can concede he was wrong about also looks sillier by the day. Man that’s gold.

I think our 2023 1sr Round Pick is burning a hole in his pocket & regardless of where we are in the standings, that pick will be moved before the deadline.

That could very well be, but I certainly hope not.

You might be right.
