7 years in TB, 4 in NYR, 6 in CBJ (and the GM pushed him out by trading for Laine - the anti-Torts player).

I think he values high end skill, he's had St Louis, Panarin, etc. Look how fast Brink's minutes went up.
But he demands that high skill players still try on defense, and some scorers don't want to work on defense. He could never deal with someone like Patrick Kane. But he'd love Sidney. If Michkov is as competitive as they say, he'll get along fine with Torts.

I don't think he gives more rope to "his guys," rather, you become his guy by doing the things he asks of you, and he's patient with players who do so. I mean look at TK, he'd drive a lot of HCs crazy with his mistakes, but he plays with a high motor, is highly competitive, and tries to play defense. So Torts grits his teeth and keeps throwing him out there. We're seeing a similar thing with Tippett.

Yes, he wants his guys, most top HCs clear out the guys who won't play the game the way they want. If you take over a competitive team, you coach around the guys you have until you can get rid of the ones you don't want, when you're rebuilding, you don't have to bother with that.

I noticed you forgot a team.

If a coach "can't deal with" Patrick Kane then that's a super shitty coach.

Everyone loved Powe. He was the perfect 4th liner.

The Powe-Betts-Lapierre 4th line was a lot of fun to watch.
To think the Flyers iced such a 4th line and then we look at the slop they've trotted out since then. They even lost a better center in Glen metropolit to waivers that season
Edit: or the season prior

Nicky D isn't horrible, we've seen much worse on the 4th line. He's meh, he fights, hits and tries to keep up, but has no skills. Poehling's speed covers for his skating, but you wouldn't want him with a center like Laczynski.

Poehling is what he is, speed, makes things happen but how he got drafted in the 1st rd??? Don't think he could finish if his life depended upon it.

Hathaway is a bit of a disappointment so far, it's not that he's bad, but he doesn't look like a guy who is a top 4th liner with the ability to play on the third line. More of a decent JAG.

You could always spot an Authentic Clown by the way they talked about Raffl. Just about the perfect bottom 6 forward, aside from his regular injuries and poor shot blocking technique.

And for a guy who had 160 P (151 ES, 4 PP, 6 SH) in 504 games for the Flyers, he was cheap.

2 x $1.1m

3 x $2.35m

2 x $1.6m
