He's a backup SS with control. He's an Espinal for me.Ugh, do not like.
DeJong is below the Mendoza Line over the past 3 years. He's just another Espinal/Biggio-level warm body who might be slightly above replacement level and can't hit.

DeJong is 14th among SS and has a higher fWAR than Trea Turner, Adames, Correra, and Pena.
DeJong also has 123 OPS+ vs LHP and and 119 with RISP. Also is currently 7th in SS DEF rating.
He will add value.
This is a high quality backup.
We already have too many backup middle-infielders who can't hit.
If Bichette is out, I'm not sure how DeJong is an upgrade on Espinal.
That includes a BABIP of .213 and .216 the last two seasons. It's normalized this year (.289) and he has a 96 wRC+ with strong defense at SS. If Espinal and Biggio were having the kinds of seasons they had last year, I would agree. Unfortunately, they're not.Ugh, do not like.

(Also, I'm not convinced it'll hold up because it's still a small sample that doesn't match his career splits, but he has a 129 wRC+ against lefties this year.)
