I predict Verlander to the O's. He isnt happy with the Mets selling and at this point in his career its more than just money. He wants to win. Im sure the Dodgers are his first option but i cant see Cohen running to trade him to LA. Current O's GM, Elias was a member of Houston that acquired Verlander. Balitmore is a 3 hour drive from NYC or a 1 hour flight. Im sure Verlander can get Angelos to use his private jet to fly to and from NYC for Verlander to visit Upton who probably wanted New York City for work.

Baltimore has the best pen in the league by almost 2 WAR. There hitting is deep with 7 hitters with a 110 wRC+ or better. They could improve their defense but starting pitching is the spot to improve the most as they sit 22nd. Adding a game 1 starter in Verlander would be huge for them.

Also think the Jays re-acquire Teo. Not many OF options out there other than Pham and Canha and i think there is a bidding war for them as they are the only valuable bats out there. Jays buy low on Teo because i cant see the M's offering him a QO.
Yeah I was watching O’s and Yanks last night and they kept showing the GM on the phone. I think Baltimore is in a perfect window here to do something massive. They have by far the best farm system, their roster is full of young kids, their payroll is low and they have the best record in the AL. Verlander on that team would be scary.

Also with Verlander and their bullpen with Bautista closing it down being unhittable any game 7 would be super tough. If Angelos cheaps out again this year what’s the point? Dude is super rich with the best young team in baseball

Agreed. They need to get a top end rotation guy. They have the assets and verlander is the easiest choice.

I have no idea what to expect out of them because everything you said about them was also true in the offseason and they proceeded to add Adam Frazier and Kyle Gibson.

Hicks may be better than on first glance. He was horrible in March-April, then made an adjustment to his position on the mound and has been great since.
I think with the addition of the clock pitching stats for the beginning of the season should probably be taken with a big grain of salt. Some guys had more troubles to adjust than others. Bassitt clearly had troubles with the clock his first 3-4 starts.

I know he's only 5 innings into his tenure with the Jays, but I was looking at his profile today and thought this would be kind of interesting to follow up on. My first reaction is that he seems to be spotting all of his pitches really well and doesn't look like a guy who struggles so much with his command. I assume that's just a small sample thing, but it's been great to see.

- He's splitting his fastball usage evenly between the 4-seam and 2-seam, whereas before it was 75% 4-seam.
- He's cut the curveball usage in half and scrapped the changeup altogether.

Can't complain so far.

Ideally we trade Biggio for Teo as Seattle has been looking for a lefty 2B for years but i assume Seattle would want more. Is it Biggio and Francis or Horwitz or maybe they want Davis Schneider.

Where does Teo fit? Can he play LF? If he can, probably not very well. DH? I don’t want him taking at bats away from Belt or Kirk or even Jano. He is not a good 4th outfielder because he doesn’t play great D. I don’t think Teo fits anywhere. I think you keep the outfield of Varsho-KK-Springer.

With Kiermaier and Varsho, the Jays are structured that they don't need a good defensive 4th OF, or even one who can play CF at all. They just need someone who can play the corner OF to spell one of those guys when there's a lefty pitching.

Teo's been garbage this year against righties - his numbers there are similar to Varsho's overall numbers - but he's still mashing lefties. He fits really well at this point.

So you would play him in LF sometimes against lefties? If so, yes, I can see how that works. Merrifield goes to 2nd and Santi to the bench. The lineup then is deeper.

Has that happened before when you trade a player away then you trade for him back 6 months later ?

Either way i think the Jays have to add a good batter. Outside of the 2nd catcher the other options on the bench are Espinal or Biggio. That's kind of weak i mean when the team is 100% healthy it's fine i guess but it would not take too many injuries to make this a problem. Belt numbers against LHP are not good either. A guy like Hernandez could work as DH too against LHP. I don't see any reality where the Jays acquire Hernandez back but a similar guy on the "bench" could help a lot.

to be fair - i guess management wanted to make sure last season wasn't a flukeish run and their young guns were legitimately ready. So I can "forgive" them not being aggressive then. I think if they fail to do it now, that'd be criminal.

For me he would DH against lefties with the odd start perhaps back in RF as Springer gets time off too. Would be great having Varsho or KK coming off the bench in close games or as pinch runners especially for Belt, Kirk and Vladdy. Belt has been pretty cold recently too with a sub 100 OPS+ in the last month.

We may not like taking ABs away from Kirk or Jansen but we got a lot of baseball coming up with new great 3rd catching options. Jansen is banged up so im fine giving them more breaks. Plus Jansen and Varsho have the most RBIs late in games in league, not bad to have those guys come off the bench too.

With new pitchers joining the team, i rather Jansen and Kirk spend time resting and working with the new staff to be fresh down the stretch.

Tiger could and should come away here with at least 2 top 100 prospects maybe 3. They corner the starter market if Verlander isnt available.

Also speaking of Davis Schneider;

Another prediction, with so many starting needy teams and a limited supply of starters available, the Jays will get a good return for Mitch White which could be a team's top 25 prospects.

Not sure if serious or not but a guy on his way to 29 should not be considered a prospect anymore. His career stats are just awful.

My prediction is Orioles get Lorenzen, Dodgers get E-Rod once they move off of Verlander.

Maybe you misunderstood. Not saying White is a prospect, rather, since there are a lot of teams who need pitching, the Jays will get a good return for Mitch White when they trade him. I predict the Jays will get a prospects for White and that prospect will be inside a team's top 25.

What about a package around Teo and also adding in Sewald. You would fill in the gaps with one move. A depth bat and finishing touches on the bullpen

Flip him to Seattle as part of a trade for Teo. Eat some of the money on what’s left of the 14 million to Teo and lower the prospect cost

It really shouldn’t take a lot to pry Hernandez from Seattle. He’s having a rough year and he’s a free agent after the season, pure rental

I am thinking Houston catches Texas and overtakes them, and that is good for us. Houston is getting Altuve and Alvarez back, while Texas is clearly not that good of a team. Jays should finish ahead of them.
