Until this year, I always found Hicks really underwhelming... he had huge velocity but couldn't miss bats. He's finally putting it together this year, so hopefully we get a few strong months out of him.

I'm not thrilled with the cost, but he's definitely one of the best relievers available and fits the profile of someone who pushes others down the depth chart rather than just being more depth.

It is a steep price but Kloff hasn’t shown much. This has been his best year and it’s still not great. Really like Sem and if his velo improves he could be a solid start but it’s a sellers market. Rather they do this than do nothing. Hicks is good.
The Jays are like 6th in MLB and paying Vlad and Bo relative peanuts. If they aren't in go for it mode non stop right now I don't know what we are even doing here.

I guess we need to go all in now and add another RHB to the lineup and we should be sufficiently bulked up, especially with Ryu coming back

Yes but I believe recently he’s done much better. Jays pitching coaches also seem to improve pitchers control.
He got off to a brutal start. His numbers have been trending in the right direction every week it seems.

Love this move! Hicks yes only a rental but a damn good one. Best relief pitcher on the market and Atkins pulled the trigger. Once Chad Greene comes back and Romano gets off the IL, with Swanson and now Hicks. Wow. Dude hits 101-102 on the gun

He's missing Cabrera but Peasron is probably back to AAA when Green or Romano is activated and then Jackson I guess is unfortunately next.

That's a deep pen.

Edit: Somebody has to go to activate Ryu aswell

It does suck to lose Sem but if we didn't pay the price he is probably going to like the Rays or something and our offense is trying to score on him late in a tie game in September instead of the other way around. You either jump in at the market price or watch the market pass you by.

Yeah, and it's not like other high-end arms are going to be cheap. With the number of buyers/sellers, your options are pay a price like this or don't make an impact move.

Hicks gave up 6/17 of his earned runs in his first four appearances this year, 11/17 in his first 13 innings. Using that arbitrary May 6 cutoff he’s been a top tier reliever. Maybe hoping for some improved defence behind him too to further strengthen his numbers.

Also proves that someone like Bednar would have an astronomical price point. But I’m also not the high guy on Robberse and feel like he’s starting to stall a bit.
