I really do think it is time to call up Schneider and give him a real run to see what we have. The guy is on an absolute heater in AAA. Get him up and in the lineup.
I kind of wish they had given him a chance earlier so they would know if they could rely on him as the 26th man who plays primarily against lefties. I would be ok giving him that spot now, but I'm really hoping they add a better/more experienced hitter in that spot. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see him at all this year.

Yeah about a month ago would have been great. It just would be nice if we could start filling some of these holes in the organization internally. Though I suppose you could go out and get rentals and pencil in the internal guys for next season.

I think his biggest chance this year is if they make a trade that involves Biggio. Then you DFA Luplow and there's room on the 40 for the new guy and Schneider. The new guy fills Luplow's role (lefty-mashing OF) and Schneider fills Biggio's (versatile 2B/3B/OF).

Even then, though, I feel like they would just give the spot to Clement and Schneider has to wait until next year.

Honestly, what do you expect him to say? We are desperate to find a replacement and hopefully we can get that player at the deadline? You shouldn't expect any other response. If they trade for another closer you'll then hear we wanted to make sure we had someone that could take on the roll with experience and when Jordan is back we'll figure out the rest then.
I would expect him to say “we’re looking to improve that area etc” to that effect. To just flat out say nah we’re going with a closer by committee tells me all I need to know about the next few days. I’m expecting one loogy arm nobody from the Pirates for depth in the pen. Once we blow a game in the WC again people will act shocked…. Only if Atkins has a flame thrower ….

loogys aren't a thing in baseball anymore.

Who actually said that, though? Schneider said they would do closer by committee, but it's his job to decide what they'll do with the players they have available, not to decide what trades to make.

I think it's going to be tough for most teams because a lot of teams are in playoff contention and won't trade, and the teams that aren't, don't have a lot of good players available.
Agreed just going through the standings I'm only confident in having 10 teams that are sellers, so the prices will be high if you want to make a major addition

Once again, any AL East or West team would be first in the AL Central except for Oakland. Each NL division has 3 teams that would be first place in the AL Central.

Shitshow aside, Atkins wording on Manoah was interesting;

I can't imagine a couple weeks is enough time to fix what's wrong with him. I wasn't expecting him back until August/September if at all honestly.

Sorry thought they sent him back down and saw it reset to the first page
