Nick Goodwin is in the lineup tonight for Dunedin and Tiedemann starting. Currently in a delay

That’s a lot more top value tickets there. Smart move but zero foul ball area. Gonna be a lot of fan interference I think if it’s too close

It’s all fun and good until I get hit with a 20% increase on my 500L seasons for this.
You think you’ll get hit? That’s looks like them cashing in on premium seats. I guess they do have to pay for it so increases prices is a start

But if you're going to do that, why don't you apply it both ways?

Varsho was a 4.7 fWAR (4.9 bWAR) player last season and was a 2.2 fWAR player in just 95 games the year before that.

You think they should have got better than a ~5 WAR player?

Seems silly to talk up what Moreno was "worth at the time" while conveniently forgetting what Varsho was worth. 5 WAR is an elite player.

Anyway, bad timing for the Jays this season but I bet that Varsho isn't posting ~75 wRC+ hitting moving forward.
This is the frustrating part with Varsho. I think the expectation with him was he did that and was coming to a hitter friendly division with the hope/expectation that the power he showed would go up as well. The problem being how power disappeared along with his bat this year. I’m hoping we have a Berrios scenario where it’s just the anomaly year and he’s back to his old self next year. Seems like the guys are rooting for him and he just can’t get there. Just need to flip the switch.

Buying low on Anderson and Hendriks would be awesome, especially since a huge part of the deal would be clearing payroll for the White Sox, so it may not be too costly in terms of prospects.

For all of his struggles this year, Anderson still has a 111 wRC+ against lefties.
Sure but do you really want to tie up 29 million for next year into two guys having brutal seasons. Hendricks has pitched I believe 5 1/3 innings something like that this year and Anderson has negative value. That’s a huge amount of money to commit to struggling players. Unless they send money and we are only sending Mitch white I don’t get the value there.

It's been seen many many times over the years. Guys sometimes struggle in there first seasons with new teams. I am not all all concerned about the trade nor the value that Varsho is going to provide this team in the future.

I was thinking the same thing. Curious how they evaluate and decide on things... most fans thought the new dimensions would produce a Yankee light stadium effect with more home runs. Hasn't been the case but it's a short sample size and our hitters haven't been lighting it up in terms of home runs.

Now imagine it's a playoff game and we had a potential easy out that falls 2 feet into the stands where there is no foul territory... I can see lots of pros and cons to the actual results on the field. The revenue is clearly the big deciding factor here. It is a business I get it.

Before the renovations began, the Rogers Centre had one f the biggest foul territories in MLB. I think these changes bring it more in line with other parks.

That seems like a lot of stuff without a lot of roster room for a lot of stuff. I don't really see a need or a spot for Matz. White going out means you've got an easy spot for Bummer, but Green and Ryu coming back soon means your other 2 optionable relievers(Cabrera, and Jackson) have to go down to make room. There's nowhere for Matz to be the swingman Mitchell wants him to be. Even if the Cards eat a bunch of money what's the point? He's got 2 years left, the Cards are probably trading Montgomery from their rotation and presumably they aren't planning on being bad next year because they're the Cardinals so they're not going to want to eat money to get rid of him when they'd need to fill that hole again next year.

Luplow being DFA'd makes room for Pham, where's the open roster spot for Kim? Espinal, or Biggio can move sure, but include their value in one of these trades, surely we're not optioning them or DFAing them are we? Also where is everyone playing? Assuming we bring in Pham to platoon with Varsho and/or Kiermaier that moves Merrifield to the everyday 2nd basem... nope we've just given that spot to Kim. Merrifield isn't sitting, and neither is Kim, so I guess that makes Pham and bench bat and Varsho a defensive replacement? I get it, good teams have good bench pieces. It just seems a bit overboard.

The trades for Kim and Bummer both felt light to me too. Bummer's been having awful results so maybe you trick them into taking that little. Not sure the Padres will want that bag of decent but middling stuff for Kim. Feels more like a Barger/Barriera + Roden kind of deal.

I really don't understand how adding Matz and Bummer makes any sense. They're going to add Ryu and Green soon, with White presumably gone and one of Cabrera or Jackson optioned.

Gausman
Berrios
Bassitt
Manoah
Kikuchi
Ryu

Romano
Swanson
Garcia
Mayza
Richards
Green
Jackson

Where do those guys fit? They can add another pitcher in September, but that should be Pearson or Cabrera. If they're going to make a bullpen move, I want it to be a higher end guy who pushes guys down the depth chart rather than adding a couple guys who may not even be an improvement at the bottom end.

Apparently we had a lot of the same thoughts haha... I thought the Kim trade felt really light, too.

Toronto has some of the worst sports columnists…. None of Mitchell’s ideas make a lot of sense. He says rentals aren’t ideal but then mentions the most side ways moves possible. The Jays are in win now mode. Matz doesn’t make a lot of sense especially at the money he makes. We need a guy like Hader.. a complete stud to help out Romano. Im tired of hearing about small depth moves. Are we trying to win a title or just make the playoffs every year?

Sorry for the double post

I can see the need for wanting pitching depth. If 2 guys get hurt/pitch bad you’re basically running pen days because every depth option we acquire blows up I our face. But it has to be optionable depth. Redoing the White trade or getting an expensive starter to be the swingman just doesn’t work, there’s no roster room.

Something like Jimenez for some other teams Starting pitcher version of Jimenez

Pitching depth is needed. But Matz or anything Mitchell mentioned in his article doesn’t move the needle at all. This happened last year as well, talked about depth and bla bla and never did anything as another went by. At what point do the talking heads start mentioning something other than small depth moves? You know what moves the needle? Hader. Him and Romano with Swanson would be a nasty 7-8-9 trip. WTF is Matz going to do here? If you’re going to get Matz the idea would be for a 4th or 5th depth piece in the rotation but that’s not needed with Ryu coming back.

Green followed up with 3 Ks. 13 of 15 pitches were strikes.

Buffalo likely next
