I'd do Kimbrel for Grichuk with CHW retaining to drop the difference down to 5M or Kimbrel plus another bullpen arm like Lopez for Grichuk.

Ketel Marte is a good candidate to play second if Marcus leaves. He’s on a rebuilding team, friendly contract, lefty hitter, great defense at second, hits for a very high average/makes lots of contact, runs well, gets on base, and when healthy, he has good pop in that bat especially if he comes to play in AL East ballparks.

He’s also Dominican so he’d fit in well with our roster which is majority Hispanic/Latino and Spanish speaking

Acquisition cost could be high

After thinking about this for a bit, I wouldn't even do this. I'd rather have Grichuk.

only 3rd baseman id trade for would be

chapman off Oakland's hands,

we could pretty much bank or gamble on him being top 5 in mvp the following 2 years before becoming a free agent. by far the best defensive 3rd base in the game. with his lackluster and disappointing season to go with his pay raise for the upcoming season this year you may get to pay less then initially thought .

espinal to replace. macguire, hatch, danner as fillers that are cost controlled for the foreseeable future and for the most part mlb ready or on the cusp.. sure you might have to replace prospects but im not touching the top 10. unless they are expendable or in decline

I’m reluctant to endorse a trade for a premium controlled infielder.
Or starter, actually.
Still gonna need a pipeline coming up….and the impact side of the pool (especially on the pitching side) isn’t exactly deep.
I’d keep targeting reclamation pitchers by trade, and non-qualified pitchers by FA.
Going into the off-season, the staff is already in pretty good shape.

I would do it because I think Grichuk is much easier to replace in free agency.

I'd rather have McHugh and Yates or Robertson.

Also, not trading Grichuk for Kimbrel doesn't stop us from trading Grichuk. It's just that in the Kimbrel scenario, we have 25Mish tied up in Kimbrel/OF, whereas the other way, we could spend 20-25 on two relievers and Grichuk or less on those relievers and OF not named Grichuk.

When it’s all said and done, this might be the player the Jays can realistically get. Oakland likely doesn’t want to pay his rising arb costs, he hasn’t been the same since his hip surgery so the asking price will be reasonable.

Instead of giving up Gurriel and multiple prospects in our top 10 for Ramirez, a trade of say Biggio and Smith for 2 years of Chapman could work.

That's where a guy like Seager could come in. His cost isn't a top trade chip

my thoughts exactly. tho i would try and loop espinal out instead of biggio but thats just me. but i think we have the right mix to make a deal. one that could look amazing for us down the road

I wouldn't object to buying someone (less assets for more contract)

Chapman would definitely thrive on this team playing in AL East ballparks with the lineup protection he’d have compared to on the A’s. He just has to limit those strikeouts

Assuming Oakland doesn't want to increase payroll, Chapman is estimated to make right around what they would need to lose (unless they are making Manaea available).

I'm not sure what you mean. Where does $25 million come from? Grichuk makes $10 and Kimbrel makes $16, but the discussion is trading Grichuk for Kimbrel, so there's no scenario being discussed in which the Jays have both.

I assume he'll be available in free agency. I can't see the Mariners spending $20 million on him next year, and if they do pick up that option he'll have negative value, so I doubt they move him. It's a weird situation all around.

I wouldn’t either but Chapman doesn’t fit the bill. Oakland doesn’t view him as a bad contract nor does he have a guaranteed contract. Chapman is a top 10 3B likely making around $10M next year, Oakland has no motivation to take less on him to move money because teams will lineup for his services at that rate.

You need a backup OF. I misread Kimbrel's option, but it is still going to cost around 7 or 8 for a decent backup.

Or you trade a blocked infield prospect for an outfielder.

Full crowd.... is anyone gonna put their hand up and say, me dumb sheep,... nah didnt think so

Or is anyone brave enough to say, the play by play, somehow, is the worst of leaf all time history..

Anyways, its an awful game to watch, and the play by play, its sub echl..

The play by play makes Craig Simpson sound exciting, and guys, this guy is boring as a drone.,..

I think we should not watch this, for ten to twenty games..

Ahh, they wouldn't feel it, they were corona guys all the way.... But this is awful hockey, awful commentating...

I blame Buck.

Lots of options either way, yeah. But I think a free agent at $7-8 million is likely a solid upgrade on Grichuk.
