Looks like you may be right about Boston going with a rebuild.
I didn't think they'd do it, but with the injuries and/or ages of many of their best players, it seems they want to completely change directions.
Apparently they canned Cassidy largely because they want a different style coach and voice for their young players. A softer touch.
Hence, it seems Jay Leach, David Quinn, and Nate Leaman are probably the 3 leading candidates. And if they think Cassidy was too demanding and strict of young players, they aren't going to be hiring Tortorella.
So, Boston loses in the playoffs.
A few days later they fire the coach.
A few days after that, rumours surface that they may not re-sign Pastrnak.
Then they basically announce a rebuild and that they're looking for a coach who will be great with young players.
The Flyers, meanwhile, as still cleaning up their own puddle of drool six months after firing their coach, missing the playoffs, and having no clear direction.
Is anyone awake in the organization??
