@deadhead

Looks like you may be right about Boston going with a rebuild.

I didn't think they'd do it, but with the injuries and/or ages of many of their best players, it seems they want to completely change directions.

Apparently they canned Cassidy largely because they want a different style coach and voice for their young players. A softer touch.

Hence, it seems Jay Leach, David Quinn, and Nate Leaman are probably the 3 leading candidates. And if they think Cassidy was too demanding and strict of young players, they aren't going to be hiring Tortorella.

So, Boston loses in the playoffs.

A few days later they fire the coach.

A few days after that, rumours surface that they may not re-sign Pastrnak.

Then they basically announce a rebuild and that they're looking for a coach who will be great with young players.

The Flyers, meanwhile, as still cleaning up their own puddle of drool six months after firing their coach, missing the playoffs, and having no clear direction.

Is anyone awake in the organization??

Vegas knows something we don't?

And why isn't Bruce Cassidy in there? I'm guessing they just didn't have his name in the mix yet.

My feeling for the longest time has been it will be Montgomery... but I don't know. "Aggressive retool" feels more like a Torts kinda thing (because I doubt Trotz will be interested).

It's a pretty good match, actually. An aggressive tool to oversee the aggressive retool.

even if we just draft for talent, we are not going to win a stanley cup in 2 or 3 years more like 10 to 15 years because young players take time to develop like 5 to 6 years, winning and chemistry takes time, it's not a fast process, that's why the buffalo sabres, sens, coyotes are dumpster fire, they have no proven talent to speed up the rebuild. you need that, if you dont get that, no matter how well you draft, you will still be stuck at the lottery.
this is not the nba.

look the rosters on the contending teams how many 18 and 19 year old players are on the whole roster? it's not college.

Even Vegas knows the Flyers are a dumpster fire and have not shot at hiring Bruce C

Even the ones who make it to the SCF have only gotten there after failing a lot. TB failed a lot. The Avs failed a lot. The Panthers and Leafs have failed a ton, and they seem to be getting better and better each year, so they're learning from it and building on it.

Clearly the Flyers have failed a lot over the past decade, but sadly, it has led to exactly zero elite players in the organization. No MacKinnon, McDavid, Makar, Draisaitl, Hedman, Point, Matthews, Marner. Giroux is gone. Coots is turning 30.

That's the frustrating part and I honestly don't see a path to success without a few of those elite-level guys.

Because they have the same mindset that got the Flyers in this spot, "do something, anything."

I read that Pasta did not like the coaching change and therefore he did not want to reup. But either way, much more forward thinking than the Flyers. If they go all draft capital in a pasta trade imagine what they will get. There would absolutely be 2023 picks on the table for that.

And did Bergeron announce he's not coming back? Can't remember.

If so, that's two major pieces gone, so it makes sense to pivot.

Are there seriously people mad the Flyers haven’t made a move here yet?

Why?
The draft is less than a month away and they have known for what six months that they need a coach? Ideally you'd have your coach in place with enough time to really dig in to the draft and UFA plans etc. They're going to botch the thing anyway so who cares?

Because they are bored, and we live in a social-media and 24/7 news addicted society that is always jonesing for its next short dopamine hit.

It sounds like the Flyers are taking their time to interview a slew of candidates, and that's the way it should be.

There's no benefit to rushing this. That much was made clear with Cassidy's recent firing. What if he ends up their favorite candidate? And they would have missed out on him had they rushed a hire. But some fans are desperate for activity.

The draft is less than a month away for all the other teams as well. Chicago hasn't hired a coach yet, and they fired theirs first. And they have a more clearly stated direction and the Flyers do.

Only 2 teams have moved, one promoted someone who was going get hired elsewhere. The other kept the guy who had an option year, so neither of them did a search. The Bruins just fired their coach, it would've been malpractice if we, or any team doing a search, hired someone new having not talked to Cassidy. Everyone should be waiting for Tampa to be done and try to raid their staff.

It also wouldn't hurt for them to get a bunch of outside evaluations of the players on their team.

I mean isn't that one of the things you discuss in an interview? What the potential HC thinks of your players, what your strengths and weaknesses are, and how he'd address them?

Why would you hire someone who didn't take the time to review film of your team before interviewing?
