People need to read and understand this to understand how bad the Flyers FO culture and approach is...especially considering their wheel spinning...

@deadhead

Looks like you may be right about Boston going with a rebuild.

I didn't think they'd do it, but with the injuries and/or ages of many of their best players, it seems they want to completely change directions.

Apparently they canned Cassidy largely because they want a different style coach and voice for their young players. A softer touch.

Hence, it seems Jay Leach, David Quinn, and Nate Leaman are probably the 3 leading candidates. And if they think Cassidy was too demanding and strict of young players, they aren't going to be hiring Tortorella.

sweet, theres another team that will be done its rebuild before we even start..

😠

I thought when Snider died maybe the curse would lifted from this franchise. Now I’m thinking it might be Clarke. Only 73. He’s got a few years left in him.

If the execution goes well....

The problem with the Flyers is that both their vision and execution is massively deficient.

Clarke had self awareness and resigned back when him and Hitchcock lorded over the worst Flyers season ever....it might take the Flyers being rock bottom for him and Holmgren and the rest of the collaborative (consensus oriented) management committee to bow out again....

Torts seems like Hitchcock redux ...

Hextall at least understood that he needed to be fully empowered when he basically made it a condition to Snider of his hiring knowing the history of meddling and too many hands in the cookie jar. His development vision wasn't off either but his execution as we saw was pretty damn bad and of course he pissed off the old guard and went against established culture which sadly reached it's expiration date many years prior...and in many ways completely died with Snider.

Scott dropped a hint into this at that ill-fated late season press conference when he said he "likes how the management team works here, it's collaborative."

Imagine being a fly on the wall of a room with great thinkers like Fletcher, Flahrsy, Clarke, Holmgren, Barber (who needs to be mentioned more) and Scott.

How many combined years of GM experience do Clarke, Homer, and Fletcher have without winning a Cup? 40?
Imagine Fletcher suggesting that maybe they should reload and add some skill players, in a room with Clarke, Holmgren and Barber?

"No Chuck, this is the Flyers, we don't rebuild, we don't even allow the word to be mentioned, and we don't want smurfs, we want real hockey players. It's bad enough you traded for Atkinson, and drafted York and Brink, fortunately, we kept you from trading Risto, or teams would throw sand in our players' faces. So go get some more real hockey players this offseason. And no, you've drafted enough smurfs, just say no to Savoie. That Gauthier kid, that's the ticket!"

None of those people are GM, President, and Alt Governor.

Fletcher has more consolidated power over the Flyers' course than any manager ever has, and he has it with a hands-off owner.

This assumes Fletcher is his own man...he is not. He is there to go along to get along. He's Clarke's boy even though in an interview he tried to say his other boy Homer made the decision to hire Cuck.

It will be Torts
They will improve to mediocre
Then they will implode
I will be miserable

From the Cassidy fired thread.

Buyer beware with this guy, he’s a good coach but his demeanor on the bench when thing
aren't going the Bruins way is poor and his extremely short leash for young players is absurd. They were locked into a playoff spot by Christmas and instead of giving the kids a little rope he almost seemed to get worse. That being said the GM should not be resigned, this whole thing just reeks of the old Harry Sinden Bruins.

Yeah, he had really poor body language whenever something went wrong. Coaches get animated from time to time, but Cassidy's pouting/sneering/sulking on the bench was getting more and more pronounced with every season. The dead eye glaring at the culprit skating back to the bench probably started to wear thin on the players.

You forgot Lombardi. He’s won. And he’s without a doubt Team Risto and Torts too.

In a room with Flahr, Fletcher, Lombardi, Clarke, Barber, Holmgren, and now Briere, some of those people are President, GM, Alternate Governor, VP, and AGM.

Hint: it's only 2 people.

It leaves a couple options. Either those two people with all the power yield their power to those other slobs and do what they want, or those two people agree with the slobs and are guiding this team in their own right.

Neither option has them looking good, does it? The two people with all the power come out as slobs either way, and ought to be fired.

Does that "consensus committee" really have anybody that will play devil's advocate to the two consiglieri that have veto authority?

All of them are cronies or made men who buy into the flawed culture. There are no visionaries in that lot especially when you have the one eyed king Clarke being the primary power broker whom I bet Snider entrusted with lifetime powers due to him being the Flyers native son.

The whole power structure stinks to high heaven if you ask me. It is the epitome of group think...and a corrupt and privileged one at that.

So just to be clear, in your narrative, Fletcher is solely responsible for some moves, but has no input and is forced into others? Hmmm
