The old "everyone knows so I am not explaining it and I am right" explanation. That is almost as good as the "do your own research!" explanation.

You don't know him by now? You don't know that the worst-case possibility is a hyper-defensive shell and trying to win games 1-0? The best case (unlikely given our roster makeup) being extremely conservative offense?

The most successful league paradigm is fast, effective transition and attack to force defenses to react and then capitalize on any mistakes. Tortorella is the opposite of that. He is the opposite of what is best. His resume is lackluster for a long time now.

Friedman mentioned Muller and good with young players as a criteria.

That is literally the only thing I care about with this hire. Good with youth.

Semi-functional PP should also be pretty high on the list.

Even if the Flyers are middle of the pack for PP, it would be a massive improvement.

Through accountability and discipline. TK continues to have long stretches where he disappears, and stretches where he forces bad plays and loses focus away from the puck.

Atkinson was at his best under Torts, and I think we could see a similar result with TK.

TK and Atkinson are not the same player. Also, talking about accountability, he's going to have to take himself into account for his actions and things he does too as we've just dealt with AV who felt like he did nothing wrong and didn't have to change. Why would Torts be any f***ing different?

Also, is this team built for someone like Torts? Do you think we have all the players we need to do his defense first/block everything mentality with this team? You can bet the likes of Risto, Provy, Seeler, TK, Farabee, Frost and the like will be getting less time on ice and more time either being benched or in the doghouse, and this isn't necessarily a fault of their own. Torts also has had tendencies to chase people away from the team, e.g. Bob, Panarin, Dubois and I believe even Laine was vocal of him.

On top of all of this was how he was openly candid about plays that Zegras pulled off, basically being disgusted with creative and fun hockey. Why in the f*** would we ever want a coach that thinks like this?

In a way, just like AV, Torts will make TK be more accountable and work on his two-way game, but by doing this, it inhibits his ability to have proper offense. Not every player needs a two way game, and just take a look at Flyers management and AV when it came to Frost. They literally wanted him to be something he isn't and in turn, his game suffered. Creativity and being free-wheeling to make, good and fun offensive plays were being beaten out of him.

I will say this about Torts, if the Flyers truly suck under him, he will definitely let the press know about it loudly enough that Dave Scott will start to listen and pay attention, skipping over Chuck entirely. Doesn't take away that he's a drama queen though.

Torts isn't death on young players. Werenski had developed nicely under him so had Atkinson and others. Sure there are some that didn't such as Laine but he's a whiney baby. Same crap in Columbus as in Winnipeg-only wants to play half of the rink. When called out for that, he whined.
I don't want Torts here but to pin the label on his for not being able to develop young players just isn't so. He's probably better at it than Trotz.

If the special teams improvements aren't enough to put Montgomery at the top of the list, I don't know what is.

He chased Dubois out of town initially which is why they ended up with Laine, who he then had no idea how to coach or utilize.

How did Laine do in his first post-Torts season?

26 goals & 56 points in 56 games.

He still hasn't learned how to spell much the less play in his own defensive end. He can shoot and score. Everyone knows that but he won't cover and that hurts the club.

Unless it happened before the post I made about Torts where I wasn't posting so wouldn't have seen the posts, I don't see anyone giving any concrete positions other than the sky is falling type of posts. Perhaps it is from someone I am ignoring?

Where are these posts? Perhaps I am missing them but I just went back to my first post on the issue and read forwards and don't see these in detail reasons they don't want Torts. I see a lot of general sweeping complaints about how he will be a bad coach or this is AV all over again, but nothing specific. This is about as specific as I have seen.
This is an impressively bad take.

I would vacate those two Stanley Cups if meant Bob Clarke & his cronies never gained the influence they have within this organization.

Also thank god my childhood idol in Eric Lindros only does PR stuff with the organization. I would hate to have to hate him because he’s ruining the hockey team I love.

Amazing how it's always Clarke who comes up pushing these kinds of things and not Holmgren. Hmm.

Anyway, I'll give Torts credit for looking like he may be modernizing himself a few years back, but it was a brief look. He didn't go all-in like Sutter has. And with a talent-lacking roster with poor development processes that abhor skill, he won't have motivation to try anything but his usual tricks. In fact, Fletcher and Clarke will probably tell him they want the safest version of himself.

Eric also did this not so long ago, something I thought I'd never see:

*I think the jersey is from his father in law (Eric married a French-Canadian).
