There's really nothing special being said there. Potential changes to the organization at some point does not equate to Dubas being fired next year based entirely on playoff outcome. Dubas wouldn't even be the one making the decision on Dubas.

If you had listened to the Bob McCown podcast, Dubas actually made those comments about organizational change and job security vs the performance of the team when asked about the possibility of getting fired.

Nothing special to be sure, but just a straight forward and honest admission that if the vision doesn't pay off, there could be real consequences. That doesn't necessarily mean he's axed the day after the Leafs season ends but it does imply it's not a business as usual season.

Exactly, also-it might just be my interpretation but Dubas mentioned about trading the core this past off season, it shows he is looking to improve the team and think the core might not be the best mix.

Not sure why some Leaf fans are in denial, when even Dubas can accept the reality of the current situation that this team needs playoff results or changes are coming.

Dubas' response seemed perfectly in line with the put up or shut up vibe entering the season. Combine that with the way the team responded with the loss and seem to be looking for redemption, I think a last dance angle on the season (before big changes) is something that would be interesting and compelling to follow...

Babcock was never a great coach. He might be better than Keefe though. Letting Sandin continue to play horrendous defense. And playing Foligno who not only scored zero goals but blocked a shot that was going in for the Leafs. It would have been the game winner if I remember correctly.

Actually, I didn't really believe him when it came to the discussions of having explored moving the Big 4, or at least not in any serious way. If you remember after the season ended he and Shanahan were adamant not to make moves and taking a loss on the return. Combined with some of the offseason reporting that mentioned the Leafs were pretty quiet about exploring Marner, it seems like they had their minds made up they weren't going to make that change at this time.

Yeah for sure. I could say Babcock was one of the most respected men in the game.
He was, and he has pedigree. It was however, good to remove him when the team was in free fall, but we shouldn't throw away the baby with the bath water.

Oh we know what we heard. We're just laughing at you. Because that statement is comically stupid.

Dislike Babcock all you like. Keefe has not a shred of success to his resume. Babs has cups and gold medals. Keefe hasn't won a single playoff round ffs.
Keefe was a success everywhere he’s coached for christ sake man. Nhl success too. He just won the division did he not for the first time in forever. :)
Gotta rack up them division title rings too ya know. Seriously though he’s a good coach. Still basically a rookie nhl coach that in fairness hasn’t had the sample size to compare anything really. I wouldn’t even guess how successful Keefe will be. I think he will be successful.
You need a actual team with heart to win in the playoffs. We don’t need our top player being a complete clown laughing when opposition is just feeding the shots and rubbing the stinky glove right in your face in the mist of a do or die playoff series.
Matthews types that are that yellow are disgusting to the entire franchise from the owners right to the fans.

Keefe can’t coach that kind of yellow and disgusting behaviour in to a player. I won’t forget it and if it repeats itself I hope they run his yellow arse out of town.

The players have everything to do with a successful coach. Keefe definitely is a good coach and has a championship with the Marlies who won with character because they weren’t the most talented team he won with.

To me I think a team called and inquired about Marner or Willie. Let’s face it, nobody will call to ask for AM and JT. But whatever it was discussed it didn’t go far due to the package. As I am pretty sure when Dubas was discussing it with another team, he has paying Reilly next contract in mind.

I think nobody is untouchable on the Leafs and everyone is tradable depends on the return package.

they've won the exact same number of playoffs rounds in the last decade.

Was as in before players came out and said what he was really like. You could have won with the Olympic team he was gifted. His Canadian teams were stacked and his detroit team was stacked. He failed lots with that stacked Detroit team too.
He was and is overrated always for me. He did help keep his players ice time down to keep them fresh. He kept Marner really fresh playing 4 line..... he kept Spezza fresh scratching him for his kind of homecoming game in Ottawa that he spent a fortune on getting tickets for all his family and friends.
Screw Babcock

If they lost first round next year and Matthews disappeared again, he would be the first one i would expect them to trade.

That's fair. I don't think they would have initiated any calls and initiated any kind of proactive changing gears or retooling. More like the vultures circled and they probably fielded a low ball offer here and there.

Well, he won. Ultimately, winning the Cups and winning the golds is the bench mark. I do'nt think Babacock was that great with the Leafs and his coaching shelf life was very short. With all his pedigree and the much vaunted 105 pt team- he didn't take us far in the playoffs either. To Keefe's credit he did win the division, but like the previous coaches and management regimes, we haven't advanced. Hopefully, this will be our year to do so.

I don’t agree with that

Put another way. I can imagine an upgrade on Tavares, Nylander and Marner at their positions or different permutations of guys who could be brought in to fill out the roster, but for Matthews, there's maybe 2 guys I'd rather have at number one center, but probably only 1.

He was a failure in our playoff runs and actually let the 4th line even touch the ice in the last playoff game he had with us. Many wanted him fired then right after that series. I was pretty mad after that and put the blame and his coaching as terrible then. He shouldn’t have even been around his last year. They bring him back and completely missed that the team could stand him. They hung him right out to dry and quit playing for him. They probably thought he screwed them in the playoffs too. I was actually asking my buds “ is he doing this on purpose to make us lose”. It looked bad.
Screw him i hate him lol

Oh ok yeah. Matthews gets you a bunch of assets but you never get a single player equal ever. That’s the intriguing thing about trading a player like him to think about. Teams might actually mortgage quite a lot of future to get him and retool, rebuild. A contender won’t be the ones interested or the ones that offer the best package. He would be likely going to a rebuild as the main building block.

People shouldn't kid themselves, Nylander is a mercenary just like his old man, and Matthews loves the SouthWest US.

I'm not saying they're both leaving for sure, but IMO, it wouldn't be the least bit surprising.
I see them all as mercenaries. If a much better contract/situation presents itself at the right time, any player will leave.

Which is as meaningless as if Dubas said he had five years of job security.

There have been no reports or even wild rumours higher management is getting impatient, and Dubas hasn't been given the dreaded vote of confidence. I see no evidence his job is in jeopardy.

Absolutely i am cheering for Keefe. I think he has a little rope we can offer him as being a fairly inexperienced nhl coach.
