OK, even if you want to discount the greatest playoff comeback in recent playoff history (and maybe Leafs history) led by those guys, then its 6 points in 4 games (and 10 points for the entire rest of the team including the D) which stacks up to be about the same as Tampa's championship stars did this year(with triple the support and an MVP goalie). My point still stands I think.

Well there was one fairly significant difference, but ok.

Thank you for the trip down memory lane. I know I've been on Dubas in this thread but at least he didn't trade a high pick for Peter Holland. That's something going for him.

No he dealt away firsts for Nick Foligno and nothing.

Total elimination games the last 2 years? When it comes to all 5 games the last 2 years:

Points for Matthews (5 points)/Marner (4 points)/Nylander(5 points): 14
Points for the entire rest of the team including the D: 14

As far as the Muzzin thing goes, yep I agree that losing our most effective playoff dman AGAIN was a huge problem. Out of those 5 elimination games, Muzzin only played in 1 full game.....and just Marner and Matthews scored more points in those 5 games than Cup champ stars Kucherov/Stamkos and Point did in their 5 elimination games this year.

I would say that we desperately need more depth in the LD position then. It sounds like an unfortunate trend for Muzzin. Replacing him with Dermott or Sandin will not cut it. Also Holl without Muzzin is a whole other thread topic.

you have some good ways to look at but I think you need to Bob Ross this a bit and complete the full picture.

you are focused on goaltending in elimination games.

a series is a culmination of all games.

as measured by save percentage, we had the 2nd best performance in net over the 2021 playoffs.

No disrespect to Anders Lee (who is a loss) but he doesnt amount to the level of walking wounded we had by the end of the series.

I'm pretty sure Lou really liked Andersen and would have gave him as much rope as we ended up doing. Other than a few changes at backup, I don't think much would be different.

Lee is a pretty big loss nevertheless. The Islanders have won a ton of playoff series in the last few years and you can say they were healthier then we were if you want to find excuses, but I believe they've been underdogs in 6 out of the 8 series since Lou took over. They've won 5 of them and two of their losses came to the powerhouse team that won the last two cups. Beat some pretty good teams too. That's been Zeke's narrative so often - we lose to elite teams so our performance is much more impressive than some of the teams that actually won rounds, yeah right.

Re. Andersen, there is zero reason to believe this IMO. I personally doubt Lou would have liked Andersen one little bit when his play went downhill and things might have been very different.

That year Sparks posted a .902, McElhinney a .912.

Leafs would have had significantly worse goaltending that year even if they kept McBackup. He was never repeating that career year again.

You literally have hindsight and you still defend it. Hahaha. Dubites are a legit cult. You ignore actual results. So you think kicking your backup out of the room weeks before the playoffs start is a sound plan do you? I really don't understand how you do it with a straight face. You choose to defend things that can't be defended. Just call a spade a spade ffs.

It's easy to say things like that with hindsight. Choosing Sparks was the right choice at the time, and something every GM would have done. McBackup was not going to repeat his performance, and he was gone to UFA within a year anyway.

It was not 7 years, and using your logic, Campbell would have been "hot garbage" and not worth a shot as well. Same with plenty of other successful goalies (Dreidger, Cup champion Binnington, Cup champion and two-time Vezina winner and Conn Smythe winner Tim Thomas, etc.).

We haven't missed the playoffs any season, and McBackup was a UFA and we wouldn't have had him in 2019-2020 anyway.

Rielly had a career year in points that year primarily because he was healthy, he played with Tavares/Marner a lot, and he had an unsustainable SH% and OISH%. It had nothing to do with Hainsey. Ceci was a better player than 38 year old Hainsey, and he was already locked into either a contract or arbitration.
Didn't need hindsight. That's the point :)

Oh so losing the qualifying for the playoffs series means we didn't miss the playoffs huh? Once again.... What's the point of arguing with ppl that refuse to acknowledge reality. Gooble Gobble.

Weird how Marner and Tavares were still on the team and the variable is Hainsey :) coincidence of course! Hahaha. Y'all are a trip. Once again.... Refusing to accept actual results and arguing nonsense.
