Its not a big disadvantage as was illustrated earlier.
If you dont want to trade dont. Or dont sign up to a draft with trades.
The draft is the main draw here, it's much easier to cut out the trades and say "or don't sign up to a draft without trades". I mean if it was trading you're after we could just skip the draft start with full NHL rosters and let people have fun. The
draft should be the main appeal here, personally I love drafting from scratch because you don't get to do it very often.
Really the problem is this:
They are fun, and addictive.
Some of you are addicts!
You get a trade then you want to do it again and again and again. There's no reason to the players you're trading for, like when Baby Shinkaruk made a big trade for Corey Perry because he already had Henrik and Daniel on one line and Getzlaf on the other. It's just an endless cycle of trading with no real point to it other than trading is fun.
Now I don't want to stop people from having their fun, but I'd rather keep that separate from the full league draft. I'd think a better format for the trade addicts is starting on June 30th with full NHL rosters, then you can start signing free agents and making trades to your hearts content and after have the vote on who did the best job.
For this draft from scratch format I'd rather remove trades (maybe allowing snake swaps), but if we have them two things are need:
1. An on the clock limit
2. A veto system
I like it best like a Yahoo league. The draft is the and once it's done trades open up but you can self police with veto's.
