I mentioned this on Twitter last night...Laine freezes two Flames by faking like he's going to pass it back behind the net and then *boom* he's off to the races 2-on-1. Amazing.
not saying you are wrong.I've seen it mentioned, but that was a great game by PoMo.
it was so brilliant, as was his pass to Connor.I mentioned this on Twitter last night...Laine freezes two Flames by faking like he's going to pass it back behind the net and then *boom* he's off to the races 2-on-1. Amazing.
I've said it before, if there is any truth to Laine wanting to play with Scheifele, he absolutely deserves to. Wheeler bogs down that line.
Corsi % | xGF% | |
Connor-Scheifele-Laine | 46.44 | 42.74 |
Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler | 53.65 | 48.15 |
That was an incredibly smart play and shows how good his skating is now. Him and Connor just pulled away.I mentioned this on Twitter last night...Laine freezes two Flames by faking like he's going to pass it back behind the net and then *boom* he's off to the races 2-on-1. Amazing.
The timeout and 5F powerplay was new and differentnot saying you are wrong.
curious what would make you say this?
i find that in-game coaching in hockey is pretty much tapping a line on the shoulder and throwing them out there. no real strategy, IMO, other than line matching
I thought Maurice calling the time-out in the second period to give our guys a chance to rest before the 5 on 3 was huge. Then he puts 5 forwards out right after the time-out and Connor scores to tie the game up . I know alot of people hate Maurice but if that was a new coach that we hired in the off season everyone would be praising the shit out of him for those moves . Good game coach.
Agreed Helle was abysmal in the first but I saw a below-average game from Marky Mark. He’s lucky he had a horseshoe up his ass on that giveaway to Scheifele in the slot (near the end of the third when he went behind his net and turned it over). Both goalies had a lot of rust... Helle looked like Beauregard in the first
Markstrom is the only reason the flames got a point
I'm not so sure about this. I don't think they create chances the same as an elite player does with great passes, but I do think their cycle/ wall game causes breakdowns - and they usually funnel the puck to the net. If you had someone on that line with some size and hands they could get in front and convert some of those chances. I think KV might fit that bill. They don’t exactly create real good chances, as neither of them is a good playmaker. Well, Copp can do somehow occasionally respectable playmaking, but he isn’t great with it for sure, and unfortunately Lowry is an awful playmaker and passer, so he especially isn’t creating much of anything. But they both are excellent in keeping the play at the opponent end, even though it doesn’t lead into much of anything else.
This anyway is a very useful thing for many situations, so I’m not saying that they aren’t valuable players. But putting someone in their line in the hope of him getting good scoring chances because of them, is honestly unrealistic daydreaming. Any line that Lowry plays at, can forget about creating real good scoring chances. He has unfortunately abysmal playmaking skills for the NHL level.
I honestly very much doubt this. Lowry himself can in fact finish quite ok with garbage goal situations. I don’t think Vesalainen is at least any better with scoring from those kind of situations. Vesalainen would really need a respectable playmaker in his line so that his pretty good skating and shooting skills could be used properly. I would want to see Perreault in the same line with Vesalainen, if he gets his shot in the lineup.I'm not so sure about this. You spelled "Pionk" wrong...That was an incredibly smart play and shows how good his skating is now. Him and Connor just pulled away.
That's cause Pionk was coming for him hard every chance. Loved seeing that. I'd imagine the two of them played with/ against each other in the US systemI think I would rather have Wheeler then Johnny Hockey. Guy was invisible

I'm not saying I think Niku's odds are great to develop into a top 4 D. I just think it's premature to complain that he should be removed from the lineup. I wouldn't judge anyone too harshly based on the first game of the year, especially with no preseason. Everyone is rusty.Niku had his chance as the top prospect on D, now there are two guys who are probably ahead of him now and even they don’t slot in yet when De Melo is back!
Niku’s bad game started in 2019 when he got a chance to play D in the Jets, trouble with that was/is are his problems in his own end which is a huge for a D man in the NHL, no?
Why Perreault. What does he do well?I honestly very much doubt this. Lowry himself can in fact finish quite ok with garbage goal situations. The better Laine plays, the better it is for us. Either he gets rewarded with his contract, or we get an amazing haul in a trade.it was so brilliant, as was his pass to Connor.
if his skating is average (and his balance) and he's properly utilized....hoooboy. we're setting ourselves up for a summer of hurt this year.
I'll just agree to disagree on that one.He can playmake and create quality scoring chances ten times better than Lowry and also clearly better than Copp.

I agree the fourth line was pretty good. Loving Lewis’s game and Perreault wasn’t bad (other then the weak penalty call on him). Thompson is way better than I expected. Can’t be any worse than Shore.I don't mind Perrault on the 4th line, they played well and had a chance or 2 late in the game and got the puck out of end quickly. Thompson lacks a step for sure but Lewis really helps out a lot with clearing attemps and both guys play good positional hockey.
I'd prefer Shore over Thompson, based on what I've seen so far...I agree the fourth line was pretty good. Loving Lewis’s game and Perreault wasn’t bad (other then the weak penalty call on him). Thompson is way better than I expected. Can’t be any worse than Shore.

as posted on twitter, the odds of an in-season trade between a US and Canadian team are slim. player would miss around 7 games due to COVID protocolsThe better Laine plays, the better it is for us. Either he gets rewarded with his contract, or we get an amazing haul in a trade.
Trouba played well his last year here and despite literally only wanting to go to one team, Chevy still managed to just absolutely bend the Rangers over in that trade.
Assuming Laine doesn’t limit his options, the return for him will be that much better.
