Post-Game Talk: The Laine Show. Jets Win 4-3 in OT

I agree i would rather have Scheifele, Ehlers then Laine and Connor in OT but you refusing to ever and i mean ever give Maurice any credit for anything is also sickening. I just was pointing out what a smart move calling the time-out before the 5 on 3 AND putting 5 forwards out and your response is not even ya but, it's Maurice is a idiot for playing Wheeler too much. I guarantee if that was a new coach you would have said, Maurice would never have done that when he was coach of the Jets.

I do apologize. You are correct. It was a smart move by Maurice to call the timeout and put 5 forwards out. He deserves credit for that. It was a moronic move to put Wheeler out first in OT. He also deserves credit for that.

why exactly is it moronic put the team Captain, one of the most prolific points producing right wingers of his generation, a guy who scored 20 goals last year in an "Off Year" a bad idea?

I think the question only is.
He was on end of the game and started the O.T.
He was great there is no doubt about it.
But probably the correct line up.
Schiefele Ehlers Jmo to start the O.T.

We have to be honest he is on a decline already. And the younger players are better already than him at this stage.

He is a solid player for the team but not at 21 mins anymore. Hopefully it wont be the norm.

But hey the Jets won so all is good. :thumbu:

Haha that's in shots and xGoals. We all are well versed in that Laine is one of the NHL's elite finishers so you have to put a multiplier on him for his offense. Him being there though does suggest where his defense was for that game.

Again, this is small samples too, so there's a large impact on results due to things like: chance, linemates, linematching, roles, randomness.

Yup this is important, as well as clutch goals and clutch plays when it can change the tied or even the outcome of the game.

KC and Laine are game breakers.

They will punish opponents this year by scoring 60 goals between them. Probably around 100 points also.

Ive had to rewatch the replay of that Laine OT goal about 6 or 7 times before i could process what actually transpired.

And i’ve come to the conclusion that i can honestly say I still have no idea how he glitch goaled that.

1st off, it looks as though he gains possession of the puck in along the corner of our d zone. Then he waits (for some odd reason) until the 2 Calagary players realize he has the puck. And then somehow he blastsoff from our corner of the Dzone (at the speed of light) after the Calgary players notice he has the puck. It almost looks like he’s fishing for a moment (cuz he could have skated up the ice sooner) before he decides to blast off up the boards.

Then it looks like he shoots (fans or gets poked), but then somehow he recouped the puck after he lost possession (in a 0.025 millisecond time frame) and then he somehow sniped it the same way he originally planned on doing so...

Either-way. I cant slow it down enough to understand what happened there, but definitely an Absolute Unreal Talented goal.

He got poked by I believe Monahan, but I also haven’t seen how he got the puck back. It was like in NHL21 when you poke the puck away and it magnetically bounces back to the attacker’s stick.

I'm kind of late to the party, but I have to say I really enjoyed watching the game. Like the way the Jets rebounded, using their talent. Liked just about every shift from Copp-Lowry-Appleton. I'm mildly optimistic, because we had one goal against because Niku was on the ice (he still makes me nervous every time he is), and he won't be on the ice when De Melo returns, and one because we had Pionk on the PK, and he won't be on the PK when De Melo returns.

There's always room for improvement, but I think there are some positive signs in game 1.

Forbert seemed very comfortable in his own end with the puck which is important for this team that seems to struggle with pressure in their own end.

ForbOrt everybody. Can't remember the last time I saw it spelled right here. ForbOrt.

One of the problems of looking at stats vs watching the game.

Yup. And besides, those stats are for the line. And Ehlers & Scheifele were on fire so obviously the 3rd guy gets pretty good xG and corsi as well.

Besides, corsi is pretty much useless as an absolute measurement between different lines / players. It's a simple measurement to use for tracking single line or single team but useless as comparison tool. And most xG models ignore scoring talent anyway rendering it to just a better version of Corsi, sadly.

PP time doesn't explain it.

Scheifele 5v5 toi 19:30
Laine 5v5 toi 13:00

Laine keeps his shifts short while Scheifele & Wheeler have a tendency to stay on ice a bit too long, and that is one reason. Another reason is that PoMo pretty much always plays his 1st line before the 2nd, and that alone might give up to 1 more shift per each period. Some times PoMo starts with his checking line (Lowry), but even then the next line in will be the 1st line, not the 2nd one.

On one occasion I though Laine did line change too early when there was a nice scoring opportunity developing on the offensive end. I guess that if they were still chasing Flames at that point he would have stayed longer on ice. In the big picture it happens to help your team more when you keep your ES shifts short.

For an allegedly selfish player his actions on ice are very unselfish.

Edit: apparently Connor appreciates Laine:

"Kyle Connor used the terms “selfless,” and “all-around great teammate.”"

Going on that game yes Ehlers should have been on with Scheifele i agree and that was a mistake by Maurice. Hopefully if we are in that situation again and Wheeler is that tired he puts Laine or Ehlers or Connor with Scheifele.
