Thb I’m not missing Roslovic. He doesn’t have the grit for the bottom 6 or the skills for the top 6. I’d rather have grinders on the fourth line, something we didn’t really have last year, and I’m not sure he’s a fit for Lowry’s line.

And I was the same as you, I couldn’t even remember jersey numbers properly and had a hard time knowing where to focus when watching. It warmed up in the second and third for sure.

Roslovic is a great skater and I think he had some good games last year with Copp and Lowry. Plus in a pinch he can be used in the top 6. Anyways until he isn't one he is an asset the team has and if he could make us better then great.

Can't get used to Appleton wearing #22.

A bottom six of

Vesalainen-Harkins-Roslovic
Copp-Lowry-Appleton

would be fun. Leave the dirty thirties on the taxi squad
I'd still do
Copp-Lowry-Lewis
Harkins/Perrault-Roslo-Apples

Copp-Lowry are our #1 PK by far... would rather see a second unit with SH potential

Niku was our worst player by a mile

Niku was really, really bad in his own end

He is completely useless without the puck. Borderline dangerous to his own team.

With the puck he is ok, but he is so bad in his own end / without the puck I can not figure out a single reason why anyone would want him on the team. There has got to be someone better out there?

The fact that Maurice started Wheeler in OT over Ehlers, Connor or Laine shows how much he wants to please Wheeler. It's sickening. That's exactly why Laine wants the hell out of here.
I agree i would rather have Scheifele, Ehlers then Laine and Connor in OT but you refusing to ever and i mean ever give Maurice any credit for anything is also sickening. I just was pointing out what a smart move calling the time-out before the 5 on 3 AND putting 5 forwards out and your response is not even ya but, it's Maurice is a idiot for playing Wheeler too much. I guarantee if that was a new coach you would have said, Maurice would never have done that when he was coach of the Jets.

New year, new approach. PoMo did great yesterday. Saw that Connor/Laine would fit well together and Stas would be a calming defensive factor. He knew Ehlers could drive if Wheels happened to have a slow start. Gave Wheels some extra time during OT to get his legs back. Tactical masterstroke to call a timeout and then go 5 forwards which resulted in a goal. Left Helly in to find stability when I was yelling to pull him on the 1-3 goal. Played pp2 a lot more than he did last year. Only had to two things I would have done differently and those have been beaten to death in this thread so won't even write them. Keep this up and we will get another playoff run.

Perhaps luring Barkov away from Florida to Center Laine wouldn't be impossible? They are friends and have chemistry on International ice, so why not try it out in the NHL?

The Center depth would be incredible after the trade.
And what can you offer to entice Florida...and how does he fit under the cap?

Me too. I’m fairly confident he’ll sign. He keeps playing like this, we’ll give him his money. Perreault’s contract coming off the books this season alone pays for his raise.
Totally agree, you don't trade players like Laine, Ehlers, Connor unless they absolutely demand one which i hope never happens.

Agree that he still needs work in his own zone, but he's a high-event player, and his transition play and passing were strong. Deserves a longer look, IMO, and not sure he was any worse than Poolman overall, and much better in the N and OZ. Still think that confidence is a major factor in his game -- if he's still turning over the puck regularly in his 4th or 5th game on the trot, then we worry. But that may well have been his chance.

Absolutely agree. I feel like Niku has way too much smarts and talent not to ultimately become a plus player whose offense outweighs the defensive shortcomings. You also have to think he's smart enough to learn the defensive side over time.

He'll probably always be a bit high event, and I wonder if some coaches don't like that in the bottom of their lineup. Maybe it introduces too much chaos into the mix and mucks with their planning or something.

Personally, I've often felt like Maurice has been too rigid with his bench and kind of shuns unpredictability, even if it leads to results. If he can find a place for Niku I'll be really happy to admit I'm wrong here. And a lot depends on Niku continuing to grow his game.

The next game the Jets need someone to come in on D it will be Heinola or Slamberg not Niku.

I hope it never happens.
