OT: The Food & Drinks Thread (Part 5)

Huge fried chicken trend in Montreal right now. Check out these recommended places: Fried chicken takes flight for Montreal restaurants at a challenging time | Montreal Gazette

Also this one is a very popular for those in the know: RESTAURANT DOBE & ANDY, Montreal - Chinatown - Photos & Restaurant Reviews - Food Delivery & Takeaway - Tripadvisor

Montreal has traditionally been a rotisserie and Portuguese chicken town. But now, fried chicken seems to have become so much of a comfort food of choice that even St-Hubert BBQ is offering it.

Who’s willing to do some testing for us?

Looks and sounds good, I'll stick with my KFC recipe however.Amazing what you can do with a chicken:nod:

Fried Chicken is the ultimate hustle. Low cost inputs and low overhead outputs for restauranteurs. I've been working on a concept for a while and almost pulled the trigger on a location 2 weeks ago. Timeline is tbd but likely will be a go in the next 6 months.

And your post reminds me of the laughable amount of money I spent at both Ma Poule Mouillée and Romado's when I was in university. The Portuguese chicken in Montreal is unmatched anywhere in Canada.

I've tried Bucky's Roosters twice already and it does not disappoint. I tried the Moondog sandwich and the 3 Tenders (you actually get 3.5 pieces). Both were excellent, the sandwich is extremely messy to eat but luckily their napkins are almost like towels so they hold and absorb everything lol.

The chicken is fried without the skin yet very tender and moist, the coating is crunchy and very flavorful and it doesn't feel or taste greasy. Their fries are thick cut and flaky on the inside with just the right amount of seasoning, nothing ruins fries for me like a ton of salt.

I'm glad I don't live or work downtown anymore or I would be there once a week at least.

If you want to make great coin from a restaurant that thrives on delivery, make great pizza. cheap cost of materials and massive mark-up.

nobody is talking about the elephant in the room. everyone is concentrating on cheap chicken and such. NO, the over all elephant is tipping.
the server has a RIGHT to get at LEAST minimum wage like everyone else. the rule should be pay him/her minimum wage and if the service is ABOVE good leave an extra tip. or as in many other Countries build the tip into the price to start with. The server has a RIGHT TO GET PAID. If you get a bad service complain to the boss, the boss might give you a discount and with enough bad service report the boss should get rid of this guy, he is bad for business. but THE GOOD SERVER SHOULD GET paid AT LEAST MINIMUM WAGE. I don't care about all that say they always leave tips. sorry but I know a ton that simply NEVER leave a tip for NO OTHER reason that they ARE cheap as hell AND DON'T care ABOUT ANYBODY ELSE BUT THEMSELVES. NOT EVEN 10 cents. The excuse is always the same, the boss pays the server NOT ME, I only pay the menu price, apparently all boss make MILLIONS and its them that pays cheap labor the cheapest wage. " IT'S NOT up to me to pay wage" so NO TIP.
The cure is easy, pay at least minimum wage and if the menu price has to go up 20% to cover true costs and wages then PAY THE BILL or DON'T come to my place. Just remember if you are part of the group that already leaves tips then no change for you ( bill+tip = new bill alone). the only affected person is the CHEAP guy.

I had the worst "fast" food experience ever last night. Jack and I had gone to pick up some stuff from a grocery store and we were hungry, we saw that Popeyes Chicken place and went there. I ordered 4 pieces of Chicken, all white meat. 4 dipping sauces and coleslaw and a cream cheese strawberry pie. I spent at least 15 minutes next to the speaker/microphone and tried to order. Just when I started to order the guy in the restaurant taking drive thru orders said. Please hold. After about 7 minutes he came back, had almost the full order ready when he said it again. Cars behind me thought that I held up the line and started honking. I had to go out and scream back at them that it was not me but the restaurant. Finally I managed to order. I was stressed and angry so I got the bag with the food and drove away. WHen I got home I noticed that there were no dipping sauces and the chicken had one white meat, the rest were wings and legs and they forgot the dessert as well, the coleslaw was horrible, very watery and tasteless.

I will never go there again.

We miss something? what prompted the rant?

Why not do like most of the world and have the tax and service in the price, simplifies things. The price the customer sees is the price paid, end of day!

Went to the Japanese grocery store on Saturday to buy umami for cream sauces with my Swedish meatballs.
You add a few drops of it to a cream sauce and it is really good.

Popeyes is so bad, Mary Brown’s is better here (and it’s not that great)
