OT: The Food & Drinks Thread (Part 5)

We took the night train to Luleå, then rented a car. That was when we saw bear poop, we had walked a lot to find a mountain lake well known for its Arctic Char and when we saw the sh*t we became a bit nervous. I mean these are brown bears and the only trees are tiny birch trees not much taller than I am (see below). I mean not much to climb since a brown bear that stands up is very tall. I mean a smart bear can just shake the tree and we would fall like apples in September.

Had a craving for a mocha buttercream frosted cake of all things. Used to get some great ones at a place called Gascon? near Belmont way back. Kind of looks like the one pictured, theirs not mine:laugh:

Do you mean Pâtisserie de Gascogne?

They shut down in 2018 as the result of a family squabble: Faillite des Pâtisseries de Gascogne: une chicane de famille qui tourne mal

They were very expensive and most of their offerings were too sweet. Their croissants and some of their artisinal breads were their best fare IMO. Never bought any cake or sweets.

I've really been craving some good fried chicken sandwiches recently. After some online sleuthing, this is what I've tried in the past 2 weeks:

- Piri-Piri from St-Hubert
- Spicy Burger from Rooster Express
- MegaRoch from Roch le Coq
- Spicy chicken sandwhich from Deli La Trattoria

Can you fellas please recommend me some of your ultimate fried chicken burger/sandwich places
Bucky Roosters.
You will never eat fried chicken anywhere else, ever again.

That sounds right. It was near Belmont park if you remember that place. Tough to recall as it was the 70's so it's been a while. It was good and it must have been good for the folks to eat it as they were extremely selective to what they ate and considered most Canadian treat foods too sugary. It was the only thing they would buy from that place as they had Belgian friends that had a pastry shop and got most of the goods from them.

No point climbing a tree anyways, those bears scale them faster than you can bleed out! You guys didn't bring firearms? We'd never leave without them when going about the wilderness up North, just too risky. Seen a fair amount of carcasses and skat, but bears only from the chopper. Char is a super fish and fun to snag, a few spots and every cast you'd land one:thumbu:

The big males can't climb, too heavy but females and subadults can climb. You might think of black bears, they can all climb and pretty good as well. This guy cannot climb. The funny thing is that they give bears numbers and he got his before he grew up fully and his number is 747, like the jumbo jet.

Btw, the way he walks is called the Cowboy Walk.

Was thinking of the bears in your neck of the woods. No name? only numbers? they even name great white sharks. Guess a number is better than nothing though, the tigers in the Sunderbans get nothing, not even a number:pout:

Anyone know how long it takes to cook a 25 lbs turkey cut in half and in 2 pans and 2 ovens?................ so do I, NOW!

Must have been a misunderstanding at some point as a friend knows I'll accept and cook anything and he brought this monster the other day. At least it was cleaned this time and not live chickens like the last time. I'll cook em,but won't catch and kill em.

Indian food has a lot of flavor, some suck, but I could eat those things everyday! I shouldn't,but I could.

We have a decent Indian restaurant close to work and we used to have lunch there maybe 3-4 times a year. I love that rice dessert with mango! It's like a small buffet (it was, don't know now given the Covid).

Not often we'd go to an Indian buffet, for good reason I may add. Did so for a surprise birthday lunch for one of the mrs's chief chemist and just simply gorged myself! Don't think I ever ate that much in life! Completely blew off dinner that evening and got all blocked up too:mad:

Don't know if this is a thing or not, but made some couscous with chicken broth and when it was cool and fluffed up,put in some diced red pepper, green pepper, defrosted frozen corn kernels, pomegranate seeds, raisins, mango a bit of finely minced cilantro and diced shish taok chicken.Very tasty and nice mouth feel. Travels well when kept cool and a nice option out on the boat.:thumbu::thumbu:

Masala! love the smell of it. Haven tried lamb that way though. Usually I do lamb on charcoal, chops style or on occasion over the spit.

Is that your accessory or a stock pic from the internets? I know a guy who can build me one but never considered it on account of not likely to be using it often.

If I’d have to add anything before a spit, it would be a smoker, followed by an outdoor pizza oven.

It's a stock image, but very similar. It's easy to make actually and get a motor to turn whatever you could on it with variable speed. Something like this can also be used as a smoker if so inclined, just a few minor improvisations. Wouldn't mind getting or making a pizza oven as I make a fair amount of them, but I'd be afraid I'd bugger up an award winning pizza.:)

Huge fried chicken trend in Montreal right now. Check out these recommended places: Fried chicken takes flight for Montreal restaurants at a challenging time | Montreal Gazette

Also this one is a very popular for those in the know: RESTAURANT DOBE & ANDY, Montreal - Chinatown - Photos & Restaurant Reviews - Food Delivery & Takeaway - Tripadvisor

Montreal has traditionally been a rotisserie and Portuguese chicken town. But now, fried chicken seems to have become so much of a comfort food of choice that even St-Hubert BBQ is offering it.

Who’s willing to do some testing for us?
