OT: The Food & Drinks Thread (Part 5)

Peel and prep your choice of vegetables cut into bite-sized pieces. Toss together in a large roasting pan seasoning liberally with salt and pepper and other seasonings. We like to use butternut squash, parsnips, carrots, sweet potatoes, red onion, and a couple of apples. Season a large roasting chicken with lots of salt and pepper and rest on the bed of vegetables. Roast. Use a pair of tongs to shred and tear the meat from the bones directly into the vegetables and juices. Serve and enjoy a nice simple winter warmer!

Thanks! appreciate that,sounds good.

Got my hands on some nice haddock fillets at Trader Joe's, they don't know what that is here on the left coast but I assume you know about them. When I lived briefly in the UK it was the most common ingredient for fish and chips in the UK. It's very good smoked as well and it belongs to the cod family. The cod's tastier brother. I just steamed it with some giant Argentinian shrimps. Dutch potatoes (what the hell is that!), then homemade tartar sauce.

Made a New York Sour today. Was a little heavy on the wine pour, but hey, it's Saturday.

2 oz bourbon (I used Knob Creek Single Barrel)
1 oz lemon juice
0.75 oz simple syrup

Shaken and double strained, and then a float of red wine

Do you make your own simple syrup? Looks good btw.

They don't know what Traders Joe's is or the haddock? From what I've heard, can't go wrong with haddock, halibut or cod for F&C. Made F&C many times but can't recall which one was better, all was good though.
I can tell you exactly what Dutch potatoes are, simply the best darn potatoes in the whole entire world is what they are!:jk: got no clue either.:dunno:

2 oz tequila
1 oz lime juice
0.5 oz pineapple
0.5 oz grenadine
shaken with and strained

This could be decent? I don't love grenadine but there are some decent ones out there.

I do enjoy sunrises, but grenadine with pineapple juice is just too sweet ,for me anyways. Prefer fresh pomegranate juice and don't say no to shots!

If you get the grenadine that you can buy in grocery stores here that is just bright red syrup then yeah, it's far too sweet. I have a bottle of this that isn't anywhere near as bad: Small Hand Foods Grenadine.

Thanks!
I don't know what goes into the grenadine, aside from pomegranate juice, that typically is purchased, but I had the same bottle for 20+ years and then threw it out. Not an item that I use all that frequently I found out. Tequila is not usually on the menu, but I don't turn down gifts and it's part of the long island iced tea that is nice every once in while.

Found some random store brand grenadine. Mostly sugar, pomegranates juice, citric acid, coloring and preservative. For 30 mL:
Store brand : 20g sugar
Small Hand Foods: 13 g sugar

So it's less sugary. It's also made from cane sugar instead of refined sugar.

And it actually tastes like pomegranate. It also won't last 20 years, and needs to be kept in the fridge.

I do like the bright red syrupy one in Shirley Temples, though.

I checked a few grenadine ingredients and some don't even have any pomegranate juice. The one you mentioned sounds proper. I might just make some to see how it works out, very simple to do.

The ones I checked out are loaded with fructose and glucose, coloring, etc not even the real deal! WTF? how can you call something that doesn't even have the ingredient in it?
