Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul level
It's a BS gimmick tournament. Not even best on best, no team Russia.

Expecting it to be like a regular season type of atmosphere, maybe playoff hockey for the final but that's it. It's a meaningless tournament the league just made up out of nowhere and excluding a top 3 hockey country.

Weegar and Doughty are basically begging to be on the team.

Would they do the same for an all-star game?

I just don't see all-star game intensity as being realistic. I think it will be playoff intensity (especially Canada-US game and final).

I just hope we have a good finals with USA and Canada. I think they’ll try harder than many are imagining here.

I think the Swedes and Finns will care a great deal. I don't think the Americans will care that much. I'm torn on the Canadians.

I'm also really curious to see how the Montreal fans treat players wearing the stars and stripes. Hoping it's just a lot of positivity and cheering for the home team. Afraid it's going to be the level of booing and negativity that we now see at Canada-based WJCs when USA plays.

Jingoism is my least favorite phenomenon in hockey. At least these aren't kids.

I think it'll be situational. I think Crosby plays and the Crosby-McDavid-MacKinnon Canadians romp to a title, so that could impact intensity if they're blowing out their opponents. I think the Sweden-Finland game should be awesome.

High intensity regular season game for the early round and playoff game for gold medal

I feel like most people are forgetting how intense the world cup was which was called a gimmick as well.

If you're attending the tournament, you're not going to go easy.

I saw the Canada vs. Europe game live at the last tournament thingy the NHL tried and while they were definitely playing to win it was much closer to an all-star game-level of intensity than Summit Series of '72 (to use two extremes).

This one I expect to be more intense and physical than that series, but I expect each game will require someone to set the tone before we see it. (And on that note, if I'm coaching USA I put the Tkachuks out on the very first shift each game for that very reason).

I think a US vs Canada final would be played at full intensity if it happens. I suspect regular season level for the rest.

Edit: actually same goes for Sweden Finland in the final. Not sure the other matchups will have the juice tho.

Probably same intensity as a team trying not to lose their home advantage as the playoffs approach.

A decent enough sense of urgency to not be questioned by the media, but not enough to risk injury.

While I'm not sure how serious the players are taking this stunt by the NHL I know that I would rather watch my team play then see Canada play 3 other countries.
BTW, "Best on best" without Russia playing is a joke.

Hope no one gets injured during this farce.

Still disappointed about mid-season NHL stoppage of play.

I think the vets/star players will give "meaningful regular season game" effort. Especially offensively, but not put themselves in positions to get hurt. Some of the young kids (especially if their team won't make playoffs) will give a higher effort, but not have the results of star players giving 75%.

There's really some of you that think these guys will be giving all star/preseason level efforts? They are putting on a national team jersey on an international stage, not a Mastercard Metropolitan Division eyesore at Gary's Sponsored Sunday Skatearound.

If you can afford it, please buy yourself a clue

Playoffs. Not as physical but intensity wise yes. I think of Canada - you got competitive freaks like Sid, McJesus and Nate. They will try their best by nature and rest of the team will follow

People voting anything other than playoff level haven’t been around in previous World cups, Canada cups or best on best Olympics. I remember the battle between Kasparitis and I think it was Lindros in the 1996 WC, Crosbys OT goal celebration in the 2010 Olympics etc etc however last World cup in 2016 included two gimmick teams which took away a bit of that. But there’s nothing like that this time. The 4 best eligible nations in the world in a best on best battle in the most classical a prestigious hockey towns. The premiere for Canada will be against Sweden in Montreal… expect playoff level intensity folks…
