My personal opinion on this is that perhaps it was polarizing to certain people because they couldn't understand that the first 6 seasons were all building towards the ultimate end game, which S7 began. We're not likely in for episodes that bring us the great dialogue that previous episodes have brought (mainly for Tyrion...man Dinklage really nails his role). When looking at the big picture, there's been far more exposition in GoT than payoff, but now that we're nearing the end we're pretty getting all payoff now.

And the next season not until 2019.... sigh. It better be amazing.

Also, in addition to what I posted above, I'm skeptical that GRRM will ever finish the books. I think he sincerely wants to, but it's become such a gigantic thing that's taken on a life of its own. We know The DB's (Dave Benioff and DB Weiss--creators and showrunners for GoT) know how everything ends, but I do think since they're already ahead of the books that they're sort of 'taking their own path' to the end. But, to my initial point, their ending may end up being the "official ending" of the series if GRRM doesn't end up finishing the books himself.

I mentioned before that I was re-watching Friends. Much of it is nostalgia of course but I thought it held up well. Some people will disagree with me of course and always would have.

Friends holds up well because of its cast, imo. The chemistry between all 6 of them was unreal, and I would argue hasn't *truly* been matched since then (that's not to say that there haven't been TV shows w/ casts that have great chemistry, I just think Friends is the best).

Though any time I've re-watched Friends, I've always skipped the first season...I just never really liked it. I always go S2-10.

Yeah for sure, the chemistry is great.

It's unbelievable how they filmed a sitcom for ten years and now when I went back to watch it late last year, every episode I'd go "Oh yeah, it's this one with the thing that happened!" I don't know when I last saw Friends on television, but you remember all of the twists and gags as they're about to happen, it's weird.

The first season wasn't the best by any means but I wouldn't say it's worth skipping. Chandler accidentally spilling the beans is an awesome scene, for example.

Friends is a classic, one of the easiest shows to just flip on and enjoy.

One that I’ve gotten into again is That 70’s Show. Love that show, that was a cast that had good chemistry as well.

Oh yeah! That show is great. Probably second to only Friends for me as far as sitcoms. (And then I also really liked The King of Queens.) But yes, Ashton Kutcher especially is so good in that, as well as Red and Kitty.

Not a huge fan of friends. I think it does hold up though because if I remember the show correctly they rarely make references to pop culture or anything going on outside of their lives so it's kind of universal in that sense. There's no gag about what's happening politically or in pop culture at the time you can watch it in any era.

I also don't find the characters that enjoyable because I felt like there was no progression. Ross and Rachel at the end felt like OK so you're just going to break up when the show ends again .

Love That 70s show though. Even though it suffers from some of the same things I mentioned about Friends.

When people say they don't like Friends, I just automatically assume they haven't really watched it. Or at least they haven't watched it as an adult and made their opinion upon scrolling across an episode here or there as a kid.

It's hilarious. It has a decent story. And if you aren't into the story or don't really know the characters you can still tune into any random episode and still enjoy it. It's such an easy watching show. There's nothing about it you have to "try" with.

Everyone in that show just fits their characters so well, basically a perfectly casted show.

It's up there with Friends for me when talking sitcoms. Probably funnier than friends, but I don't think it's "better".

I have them as the two greatest sitcoms with a very large gap between whatever is next.
Yeah, Friends wasn't that all out comedy blast kind of show, and some people don't appreciate that, which I guess I could understand.

Most sitcoms don't have good enough writing to last more than three seasons. Friends and How I Met Your Mother are examples of shows that just turned uninteresting. Characters either are just treading water or they feel the urge to change them so much that they just stop being true to what they originally were.

I get that the money is so good for everyone when you have a hit so why not keep going.

I'm not all that into sweet sitcoms though. I prefer when the characters have a slight psychopathic trait, so I like Seinfelt, Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

I have watched...

- 5 minutes of Game of Thrones (which I accidentally changed the channel to and it was a random boob scene)
- 0 seconds of Breaking Bad
- 0 seconds of Suits
- 0 seconds of Madmen
- 0 seconds of Scandal
- 1 episode of Friends
- 0 seconds of Westworld
- 0 seconds of True Detective
- 0 seconds of Deadwood
- 0 seconds of Sons of Anarchy
- 0 seconds of Fargo
- Last episode of The Sopranos

I just don't find these shows increasing honestly. It's not that I don't watch any of them, I liked Revenge, X-Files, watched the first 2 seasons of Boardwalk Empire, and finished Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in its entirety. But these are all meh to me.

Has anyone been watching the second season of the Grand Tour? It’s so much better than the first season.
I allowed my Prime Membership to expire and I've been too lazy to renew it. I've heard great things about, but still disappointed with the removal of Celebrity Brain-crash. I loved when they killed off celebrities. I think I mentioned it in the past, but the economy car episode in the first season was one of the best segments of TV I've ever seen in my life.

Friends is only slightly behind Seinfeld for me, as far as classic sitcoms go. My favorite sitcom would have to be Fawlty Towers - even to this day, that show makes me laugh harder than anything else I’ve seen. Arrested Development is up there, too. Sooooo many quotable lines came from that show.

That's what I say too. No, just kidding, I google the boob scenes.

There's some of that with Friends, sure. So if you're not that big on shows like that, you could lose interest.

HIMYM just straight up isn't funny though. It's waaaaayyy overrated.
You know what show I’ve really gotten into? Big Bang Theory.

Sike jk.
Yeah, that's not a good show at all. The "nerds say nerdy things" comedy, which is all the show is, is just subpar.

Every time we get into the TV Show discussion, someone (it never fails) comes in with Seinfeld. And I get it, I totally do, I love Seinfeld (though I'm way more partial to his stand-up than the TV show), and then comes the rankings of different TV Comedies. The truth is, as some have already pointed out with their lists, that when you get down to making a cumulative "Best TV Comedy" list, it's too hard.

Let's take Seinfeld and Friends for example. Aside from being on NBC (and overlapping in their runs), they're truly different comedies. The same can be said about other shows as well. For me, that's when it gets hard to make a list. Because I'll go periods where I'm really in to shows and comedies like Seinfeld or It's Always Sunny. Then I'll have periods where I'm in to comedies like Friends (and to a lesser extent, HIMYM). And then periods where I'm all about comedies like The Office and Parks & Rec. The list always shifts.

HIMYM just straight up isn't funny though. It's waaaaayyy overrated.

I disagree with you there. Aside from the stupendously dumb way Carter Bays & Craig Thomas ended the series, it's rewatchable. It's not groundbreaking or anything, not really even close, but it's another where the core cast works well together and some solid storytelling (for a sitcom) happens...before Bays & Thomas take a shit all over their audience with the series finale.

I remember watching a few episodes when it first came out thought it was pretty funny, and then I realized they only use one joke for the entirety of the show. Just awful, can’t believe it’s as popular as it is.

No, I mentioned I watched X-Files, all of Fresh Prince, some Boardwalk, and all of Revenge. I'm just really picky in the shows I like. For example, I got Reelz Channel and I much rather watch a full hour documentary of a real life mobster family (which is actually really well done) than watch an episode of GoT. I just find it more interesting. Additionally, I prefer the creativity of certain anime shows and watch those instead of the like of Madmen/Breaking Bad. I'm that weird 1 in 10 persons who prefer things like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Top Gear than the HBO shows.

@Murzu Mate you are right, FMA:Brotherhood is absolutely unbelievable. A billion times better than the original trash we were made to watch.

There's one chick nurse I talk to who's obsessed with the show and always mentions it.
