Speculation: The Athletic-“So, it’s easy to imagine a scenario in which the Ducks move on from Zegras..."

Snort, and now the Bleacher Report is piling on...

"Here are five teams that could really use him ... his return? ... oh, we really didn't think about what Anaheim could use ... but we're sure those five teams have plenty of assorted junk laying around to fill out a trade..."

Lots of cover your butt words to prevent being called out for something that most likely isn't happening though (speculation, wondered, observed, probably, might happen in the off season, etc.). Nobody willing to flat out say that Anaheim wants him gone... funny that.

Just back to the "Well, both he & Drysdale held out before the start of the season and now Drysdale is gone, he 'must' be next because PV is probably mad at him..."

(edit: i kant speel gud

I don't think Boston moving Seguin (or Thornton before him) was the wrong move. Identifying the core you think you can win with is important. In Seguin's case none of the prospects worked out (Bruins overrated Morrow) and the center piece in Eriksson went from a top 10 5 on 5 producer with a great two way game to a poopy head at 28.

I don't think Anaheim moving on from Zegras is a bad idea at all given how well they have hit with their other young centers. Zegras as a 60 point winger in a couple years has waaaay less value than Zegras as a 22 year old 60 point center with potential to be more if he rounds out his game. If the team doesn't believe in the player, then selling high is more than reasonable. But, they would have to be selling at a value they think is high. And what that is... who knows.
There lies the issue though.

there lies the issue/risk in a trade though.

Yes maybe Zegras remains a 60pt W OR he becomes a top 10 scoring C like Seguin ended up as for a while and the prospects/players the Duck receive amount to essentially nothing like Bostons did.

I see where you’re coming from, but it doesn’t come without risk

I don't think Anaheim is moving zegras for a dman and creating the same issue they just traded drysdale to partially get out of.

They are likely taking a dman high in this draft, so if zegras is moved I would suspect it would be for a forward of a similar age with more size and different playing style.

I doubt he's moved.

Anaheim has the 6th worst goals against per game in the NHL. Why on earth would they be opposed to acquiring defensemen?

For rebuilding teams it's best player available, always.

Because they have a glut of bodies that need to play soon including the presumptive high pick in six months. They need high end forwards.

Organizationally they're much deeper on defense. They're very thin on wing however, even if you project Gauthier there and one of Zegras/McTavish.

It's not about immediate needs for them, and the reality is that they've been so stacked on the D pipeline that guys like Thrun last year wouldn't even consider signing with them. If they trade for another top D prospect it's very likely a kid like Ian Moore will follow the same path.

Fair? Could be the top 6 forward Montreal is looking for, or a Drouin for Sergachev 2.0.
Hard pass from this Habs fans. Zegras is of interest to us but he is a bit of an egnima. Combined with a high contract I would not part with core young Defenseman for him.

A three team deal would need to be worked out as Anaheim not looking for young D while Montreal has extra. Montreal could package a late first, we should get one at deadline, combined with Savard or Barron and take on bad contract from third team. The late first ends up in Anaheim along with a player from third team. Zegras ends up in Montreal. Along with the bad contract

Thinking he has a bad contract is laughable.

You do realize Anaheim has to have some incentive to make the trade…. Not just what’s best for Montreal

Hasn't McTavish played C all year? Safe to say he is a C moving forward no?

Wow . Ducks won't get a better offer.
Agreed, which reinforces the fact this has no chance of happening. Why trade a top 6 forward for futures you hope produces a top 6 forward in 2-4 years?

The only way he is moved is in a hockey trade and that just isn’t going to happen with his injury and “down” year.
