The 2024 TRADE DEADLINE Thread

I tried to listen to Winged Wheel Podcast, but after they said Detroit biggest need is depth scoring i had to turn off. Let's ignore for a minute that they are 6th in GF/G 5th in 5-on-5 goals for, where do you put this depth scoring? You have Sprong an Fabbri playing on the 4th line. And there is a whole GA discussion and Seider usage discussion. I hate to judge people's interllectual capacity by soundbytes but sometimes you left to wonder if Brad Krysko is wearing a helmet to hockey games.
He really said that? I was just about to click and listen. Thx for saving me time and nerves.

With the islanders 2 pts back and nj and caps closer even though I dont see them as a threat(You just never know though)

What's the play today?? Were in the position I feared the most with tonight being a must win game

I'd still look to subtract a few guys and call up the likes of edvinsson and berggren/kasper. Shouldn't be looking to add anyone unless it's a player with term and I dont see many options atm

Don't make a move. There is no player in the league who is available who will make the difference between a short and a long playoff run. If we make no move and miss the playoffs we lost nothing, if we make a move or two and miss we reduce the chances of future success.

I agree, unless they can snag a bottom 6 D who is an upgrade over HOLE for a low pick.

I don’t think anyone expects Yzerman to make a short-term addition.

The two Blues guys are interesting to me as neither would be a rental. Buch is signed for another year and would add an aspect to our top 6 that is currently missing. He could also temp in for Larkin in the center position. Parayko gives up a RD that we could pair either with Ed or Chiarot next year to really help stabilize our D.

Stevie would have to move out salary to make this happen though. Fabbri and either Holl or Maata would 100% have to go.

But next year that'd give us something like:

DBC-Larkin-Kane
Buch-Compher-Ray
Ras-Copp-Fischer
Kostin-Kasper-UFA

Seider-Walman
Parayko-Ed
Chiarot-Petry
Aljo

I'm assuming Sprong, Fabbri, Veleno, Berggren, Maata, and Holl would be traded or not resigned. Sprong I want back but I feel like his is going to want too much.

This is exactly what I want as well. I would add that Buchnevich is not your typical wing. He rather plays as a center.

Those two guys are not going to be cheap at all.

Are we going to win the cup this year or next? No ... so no point giving up a ton of assets for buch

Hard pass for me

Think there's only 3 teams left, who have cap space for Buchnevich.

Detroit
Winnipeg
Carolina

I hope WPG and CAR will fill their cap with some secondary guys, and then we are the only option for a cheap trade.

They also don’t have to trade him. Also they have already said they would retain half on him

Really tough to gauge what it would cost for Buchnevich. Might be less than what people expect given the low prices this year. How much more than a 2024 1st and Berggren? You could add a conditional 2025 Draft pick (not a 1st) if Buchnevich re-signs and/or one of the defense B prospects.

The thing with Buchnevich is that his current Cap hit is low for what he brings. He'll be 30 when his current deal expires and rarely plays a full season, so he's not going to get a long-term deal from anybody. If he fits in Detroit and likes it he might be amenable to a fair 4-5 year deal. And if extension talks go nowhere, and he's having a decent season, you'll be able to get almost as much for him at the TDL as it cost to acquire him in the first place.

The RD piece we need is not likely to be found IMO until summer. SY has been reluctant to give out long-term deals, I doubt he'd be happy with Parayko still having six years left, the acquisition cost adding to that. Other guys will be available for "free" this summer, or like a Larsson be cheaper to acquire.

I dont look too much into that cause blues said they'd retain half and teams are getting 3rd teams involved to retain salary

Tsn did say carolina ain't done yet though so that's a possibility. Better not be vegas

Retaining will raise the trade value, and Blues would love that. Not sure if anyone is that desperate.

Retaining will be very costly, because they are not retaining just 21% of the season (= 1.2M) but also from full salary at next year. It will be 4M in real money.

We don't need to ask it. So Yzerman is playing this best way.

brings much value to a team with restricted cap space. Holland wont do it butb id have np with McDavid and draisaitl still there getting buch retained and sending broberg a 1st+

Media outlets everywhere are telegraphing nothing and giving Yzerman a pass.
