Media outlets everywhere are telegraphing nothing and giving Yzerman a pass

The Wings would have one intriguing piece to sell… but they’re in the playoff hunt right now so it makes no sense to do so.

Standing pat is probably the way to be this TDL

I’ll say it again, Yzerman kind of has his hands tied. His roster is full, and he’s not going to just trade for rentals, they have to fit the window, so unless he’s trading away Holl or working a huge trade which would enhance the core they’re building, I don’t know what people expect him to do

Don’t roster limits go away? We could definitely add a player without subtracting. We are already 1 short on skaters with us having 3 goalies

Given how well the team has played this year after almost a decade of irrelevancy, if Sy stands pat and the team fails to make the playoffs, you think that could send the wrong message not only to the players in the locker room but across the league?

Optics are huge in business..

No need to make a forced move that much is obvious..

I'm just not sure that standing pat looks like extreme coinfidence as opposed to mailing it in.

My hope is that whatever happens today, it is in keeping with the timeline management had going into the season with an eye on long-term, sustained improvement.

If that results in no movement today, then I hope that instills confidence in the current team that management likes where they're at and what they are doing on the ice.

Kuznetsov to the Hurricanes... seems like a gamble considering the issues that could potentially come along with him. Guess need to see the actual deal first.

Or grab Vatrano on the cheap cheap.
He'd be a good fit but I don't think it would be that cheap. Probably cost a 1st.

One "cheap" name I keep coming back to is Jason Zucker. He is not an yzerman type but he has consistently put up solid puck possession numbers and scored 27 goals. He would add some skill and puck possession and playmaking to the bottom/Middle 6. The downside is he another diminutive winger without great defence or physciallity.

Full cap would probably cost us a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Trade something like a 1st Wallinder Berggren and Petry/Holl for Parayako

Kane Larkin DBC
Perron Compher Ray
Zucker Veleno/Copp Sprong
Fischer Veleno/Copp Ras

Walman Seider
Chairot Parayko
Maatta Ghost
Holl/Petry

To me this (or something similar) strikes the balance of giving the team a boost but keeping the focus on the future. Id love Buchnevich or Vatrano but they will cost significantly more than someone like Zucker.

Someone else brought up Foligno. I like that idea as well. Definitely more of an Yzerman type. Maybe get him and Zucker for a couple of mid round picks. Fischer could be the 13th forward.

This is a poor reason to make a move.

If the wings fail to make the playoffs, it’s because they didn’t play well enough. The optics argument doesn’t hold water.

It’s not extreme confidence, it’s more that make a deal to make a deal isn’t helpful and the odds of making a super impactful deal are slim to none because the Wings want to let the players they’ve acquired by being patient to grow with the team instead of dumping them in a deal.

They’re not at the point where adding a Glendening level guy does a f***in thing for them and they’re also not at a point where it is very logical to throw Ed, AlJo, etc into a bigger trade unless the guy is the exact right fit.
