Has anyone suggested trading Kane for a 1st and then re-signing him in the offseason?

May as well get that horribly unrealistic idea that comes up ever year out of the way
I have. It's as realistic as any other scenario...

One thing to keep in mind: Yzerman didn't put anyone on waivers and the team is at the 23 man roster limit and no one is waiver exempt.

Any trade to bring in a body will have to send a body out. Not an insurmountable issue but Yzerman doesn't have much roster flexibility.

I should add, hee could gain flexibility by putting Larkin on LTIR and kick the can down the road but Im not sure he wants to do that as Larkin would be ineligible to play for 10 games/24 days.

Guys just accept we aren't going to do shit at the TDL and will try to squeak in for a first round bloodbath exit lol.

Not even hearing murmurs at this point. After the last few showings, how many people would reasonably believe Kaner when he said we have a shot in any 7 game series?

Husso and Larks can both go on retroIR

I don't think Yzerman is going to make a panic move one way or another. This is a young team in terms of the top end players minus Kane. This is a team that is going to have ups and downs. One or two big wins sends them onto a top month, one or two bad losses sends them into a spiral.

We still really lack a 1B center. It is clear no one on this roster currently can step up for Larkin if he is out. That is a problem long term that will need to be addressed either via Prospect (Kasper/Danielsson) or trade.

Even if we make the playoffs we are likely a one round team. I can't see Yzerman drastically changing his mind set because of a few losses or wins. He is committed to this team winning long term.

We aren't giving up big time assets for a rental but if he can make the team better for a longer period, I could still see him making some moves.

Or waive Kostin/Holl. Roster limit isn't the issue, there's no limit after the deadline anyways so it can be a paper move.

The best we can hope for is that a GM panics close to the deadline and offers up a sweet deal that Stevie can't refuse. S far the only deal that would have made sense for the Wings is taking Tank for 3rd and 4th. I'd rather see Tank playing with Ray.

It's why I wanted Horvat. At this point, Danielson is gonna have to be that guy. I don't see Kasper as 1C. First line centers either dominate the AHL or skip it all together like Larkin did.

I don't think that would work.

A player would have to clear waivers before they could be reassigned (removed from the roster). My understanding is they would have had to proactively waive Kostin today if they wanted to go down that path. You can't waive someone and instantly reassign them.

They'd have to put Husso/Larkin on IR which I dont think he is keen to do because it limits how early they could come back (less of an issue with Husso /his injury seems to be lingering).

They're going to try to keep Larkin off IR so he can be eligible for reactivation at any point.

Can be put on retro IR. Besides IR is only 7 days.
Yup. That would mean he can't be used through the weekend though (which is improbably anyway).

My intent wasn't to suggest they had zero options although I can appreciate it may have came off that way.

Not waiving someone (kostin) today does diminish their flexibility for tomorrow but they do have some other options (IR)

Based on what Danielson has done since arriving in Portland, and even moreso on settling into the roster, I think he's going to end up being a far better 2c than Compher/Copp, and probably as soon as the season after next. Since arriving in Portland his PPG pace has only increased and he would be among the league leaders in points had he spent the whole season there. He has 15 points in his last 10 games (small sample), which would approximate out to 102 points over a 68 game WHL season, while being possibly the best defensive forward on the league and winning over 50% of faceoffs.

I am very much hoping that we replace Sprong and Fischer with Kasper and Danielson next year instead of playing bullshit waiver exception games. Perron-Danielson-Kasper would be an annoying fourth line and a good way of getting these guys 12-14 minutes a night of NHL game time.

Edit: That fourth line would feast on most other teams' bottom lines with their grit, speed, and skill.
