Last three games have bene really demoralizing. I think a few tweaks can get us into the playoffs, which would be such a positive for this group and fanbase.

Clear up the logjam on D, maybe acquire some scoring and if an option presents itself for a bigger swing, take it.

The novelty of making the playoffs this year will wear-off quickly after they lose their fourth game in the first round.

Sell what we can for the future.

Last year everyone wanted Timo Meier.

If you guys still want him, I'm sure the Devils would trade him for Copp.
At one point we equally to your comment, felt our Grand Rapids prospects were all going to form our future core...bert, mantha, jurco, frk, pulkinnen, smith, kindl, marchenko all say hi and hello...

The truth is...teams are a complete combination of draftees, signings and trades

It would have helped if Ken Holland could draft for shit over the last 15 years.

We don't have anything to sell. That cliche just doesn't apply at the moment.

We don’t need more “role players” or “depth”. Thats basically our whole team. No reason to do a trade unless we’re getting picks or top line players.

Experience for who? The reality is most of our future team is in GR.

The reality is that professional sports isn't a video game.

Gaining experience, culture and rewarding guys who have been successful all season matters.

Red Wings had one goal prior to this season and that was to compete for the playoffs. Of which they still are and still have a good shot at making.

They should sell some of those role players to bring next season Berggren - Kasper - Mazur line up

Which would involve trading important pieces we don't want to trade.

Staying put makes the most sense.

Gut and reality check time, if the Wings make it to the dance, they will have outperformed the stated goal of simply playing meaningful games in March.

I think if the Wings finish higher than one of Bolts, NYI or Philly (I expect Philly to fade) they will make it in, as others such as Devils, Caps and Pens have brutal gauntlets to garner the point required to make a sustained move.

We could lose 3-in-a-row, but doesn't take long when we will win 8/10 again.

People should just stop freaking out of too small sample sizes against strong teams.

No. The "novelty" of making the playoffs is what guys like Seider and Raymond should be experiencing... Not dealing away players so we can draft more in the middle rounds and have like a 10% chance of getting anyone worthwhile.

If Kaner wants to be dealt to a contender... I can't fight that. I'd love them to keep and sign him... but they could actually get something significant for him. But pretty much everyone else you want to deal? Shit, Noah Hanifin just got dealt at 75% retention for an okay D and a first round pick like 3 years into the future. Tarasenko got a 3rd and a 4th. You're going to get like sixth round picks for guys... if anyone wants them at all.

Experience for who? The reality is most of our future team is in GR.
Seider. Raymond. Veleno. Rasmussen.

Shit, for that matter, Larkin, Walman. And naw, man, most of our future team is probably in juniors somewhere or on another NHL roster.

What's that? Can you explain that concept for me?

I definitely like the idea of adding Buch.

I'm more curious about whether Detroit should pay extra to get him with a reduced cap hit vs taking on his full cap hit.
I say yes.

We have soooo many draft picks and prospects that there won’t be enough room for them all.

If we need to add a 3rd or one of the billion B prospects we have im all for it

I would like to see what we could get for a retained Fabbri. At 2mil for 2 more years, a team in the cup window can really use that. Maybe throw in a pick to better the return. He's easily replaceable with Berggren.

2 more years ? Let’s not go adding years to his contract.
1 more year is enough.

And Kane can be re-signed and he can help the team win immediately, where a late 1st round pick from a weak draft class might not be able to help Wings at all.
Yeah, I don't understand why at this phase anybody would still be enamored with picks. Anybody drafted this summer won't even sniff the NHL for at least 2-3 years, if not longer. The odds of a 2024 (or later) pick making a significant difference to this franchise within this competitive cycle are slim to none.

Whether people want to accept reality or not, the rebuild rests on the current roster, the top handful of existing prospects, and any significant trades or free agents. The drafting phase is largely over.

Look for long term upgrades wherever you can, and to hell with draft picks.
