Well I also think yzerman needs to make a move for a legit d-man. That along with guys like Ed and johanssen should make this team good next year.
We'll see. I hope so.

I've got a hard time believing rookies with vault this team into a playoff position but, we've seen things before in this league.

Just think if they're that good they'd be here now helping an actual playoff run.

Depending how they finish the season, I'd consider reshuffling everything. At some point Yzerman's going to have to realize he does actually need a player better than Larkin on offense if you want to seriously contend for a cup.
I agree. Also I feel the Wings need some speed and snarl up front and especially on the back end.

Likely could get some good returns out of those guys. Sell who you can, bring up prospects to replace them. IF... you make the playoffs great, prepare the roster for big changes in the offseason if you miss the playoffs.

The one thing is is he doesn’t have the premium assets that he can sell this year and get high picks. I firmly believe Kane is getting extended. That leaves guys like Perron, sprong, ghost as trade chips. I like the players but I don’t think they get us any premium assets
Yeah, it's obvious the organization loves Perron, but I would move him now despite the playoff push. Berggren could easily take his 3rd line spot and PP time.

Trade Perron for whatever
Keep trying to fix the D logjam (trade Maatta or Holl or Petry) and promote Ed.
If they move Ghost, it's a full-on sell, but I honestly could see Yzerman doing it again. He did it last yaer against back to back ass kickings by Ottawa, so I could see him do it again.

The trick there is they shouldn't have been rookies next season...

Define good...
Something of value.

Lol, I mean honestly, if I told you that the Red Wings were missing the playoffs for sure, a lot of those guys you'd be happy with a 6th round pick vs walking in UFA or paying up.

Well I think having the log jam in front with guys that are on one way contracts doesn’t help. In a vacuum Petry, Matta, holl are fine bottom pair guys but you can’t have 2-3 of them in your lineup especially when walman is your #2 d-man. Get a legit #2 guy pushing walman to 3. Chiarot is ideally a 5, but can play as a 4 and wait for those 2 to establish themselves as at least a middle pairing guy. If Ed ends up being what we think he can be Detroit may have the best blue line in hockey in a couple years

this team is so infuriating to watch. They're doing what they did last year again, and choking it all away right before the deadline

I honestly wonder if Yzerman sells again despite being in a Playoff spot (for the time being, the Isles will likely pass us by early next week)
As much as it would hurt I'm down to sell. I would trade Kane for a first and try to re-sign him in the summer. Ghost, Holl, Perron etc. Yes making the playoffs is nice but I rather have a LONG TERM TITLE CONTENDER...

How many times can we sell though? We have so many great prospects etc, we need to A) get some in the everyday lineup and B) use some to get really good cost controlled NHL players

Pssh... see if Edvinsson can vault this team into having the best defense in the league, then he should be up now, you waive whoever you need to and don't even blink about it.

Like, in the name of winning, the locker-rooms/players feelings don't matter. Did you hear the Colorado players talk? They actually didn't sound pumped about the Bryam trade... He was very well liked inside the locker-room.

You don't sell up to 9 pieces of a team in the playoffs.

You sell all of those guys and you get probably a 1st (Kane) and maybe like five total picks in rounds 4-7, weighed towards the back. I value a playoff push and guys like Larkin, Seider, Raymond getting that experience over the chance to draft more Brady Clevelands.

Something of value.

I kinda wouldn't. Because while late round picks are not worthless.. I don't care for buying $2 scratchers trying to win the lottery. The vast likelihood is that those returns will be dogshit if you add 6th round picks.

The hell on earth are you getting that makes you a long term title contender for Ghost, Holl, or Perron in a trade? Like 5 weeks of NHL time for Edvinsson, AlJo, etc. isn't the difference between them being long term pieces or busts.

Ed will be up in 24-25. AlJo will likely be up in 24-25.

Are we gonna get a title contender with lousy 3rd and 4th rd picks?

While I recognize its possible, it's been decades since the DRW have drafted a true difference maker, good enough to drive being a title contender, with such picks..

I think playoff experience at this point is more meaningful.

Extra mid rd picks are fodder at this point

It'd be one of the most impressive TDL's if one team traded 9 guys.

The rest of your post is fair. IMO they'll be out of this race by the end of next week... 🤷‍♂️ If you think they'll contend the whole season, I understand.

Right. I was just saying that even if you did sell them all, the return would be underwhelming. More likely, if you sold, it would be Kane and Ghost. Going by other prices, probably a late 1st for Kane and something in the 4th or 5th for Ghost.

And I'd rather keep Kane for a push and try to sign him while he's still under contract with me than deal him and try to sign him back because he's re-established his value after the hip, so his UFA cost will be exorbinant

Also, if you're gonna nitpick what I said, you should read it. "You don't sell up to 9 pieces of a team in the playoffs."

Then I spoke about even if you could sell them all, you get a first out of Kane and a smattering of 4th-7th round picks for everyone else. So even if you DID sell all nine, which we both know won't happen, the return is really really poor in comparison to just pushing for the playoffs and getting young guys experience with a playoff push and a playoff series.

Don’t disagree one bit. I would have Ed up right now and would have a long time ago. I hope they move out both holl and Matta, acquire chychrun/parayko and play Ed

Walman-seider
Ghost-parayko/chychrun
Ed-chiarot

That’s a blue line that I think can be at least decent now and grow into something better as Ed and other prospects get more experience

Chiarot is the last guy I want partnered with Ed

I remember someone was screaming we had an easiest remaining schedule. Since then it was Panthers then Avs. Who's left? Boston, New York and Vancouver?
We still have one of the easiest remaining schedules but that all went out the window with Larkin down.
