Re: 89. Don’t think so, at all...And I’m the furthest thing from a Buch fan.

89 has been playing good hockey for weeks. He also has a chemistry going with 20 and 93. The Merzlikins electric guitar, culminating with his decking of Marchand, and further compounded with his apparent closeness with Kreider solidified his place. He wasn’t going anywhere, and neither was Georgiev.

We shall see.

I don’t want I say you’re wrong, but...I’ll say we were very close and in the aftermath of today I think there’s a very good chance certain discussions get revisited.

good news though Joe, we have 19 picks over the next 2 years so get really excited. . . but statistics indicate 1-5 have about a 95% chance of making it
6-10 88% (nice to see Lias is doing so well)
and the odds drop to about 15% for the majority of those picks.
. By the way mike you were really right about Kreider being “gone” today lol

Staal, Smith, and Lundqvist do not count. They will be gone once a lot of our young guys are NHL-ready. Zibanejad and Trouba fit that “medium” category. Not veterans but not young players. We don’t even know if Mika will be resigned. Fast I don’t know if we even keep.

No, they are veterans, and very good ones at that. And once Staal and Smith go some of our other guys will have enough experience that they are no longer newbies.

You don't need a third of your roster to be grizzled playoff veterans.

But my approach would have been selling Kreider for a shot at a guy like Holtz.

I don't see how that could of ever happened, but don't assume either of our firsts won't fit the mold you are looking for. It's not that far fetched.

Well so far we have done well with our mid and late first round picks. Chytil, Lundkvist, and Miller look like they will make an impact and our number 7 pick Lias looks like a bust so you never know.

Well, I've said today, there are other approaches, it's just way harder now. Kreider was a ticket to an asset haul, plus future cap flexibility.

But if we had gone, say, 4-6 instead of 8-2 in our last 10, and Kreider had been sold off, well, we'd be sitting today with like the 7th pick slot plus TWO firsts to move up. Getting a guy like Stutzle or Holtz would be in the bag.

Was it for Gaudreau?

Well Hopefully you get over it soon. Because the team is in a good position now and the coming years

We are all gonna look back and laugh when we win the Lafrieniere sweepstakes, then trade the Carolina pick and Georgiev for Clayton Keller, and we're set for a decade.

This is where you lost me

20-21

Kreider - Zibanejad - Buchnevich
Panarin - Strome - Fast
Kravtsov - Chytil - Kakko
Lemieux - Barron - Gauthier
Howden

DeAngelo - Trouba
Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Lundkvist
Rykov

Shesterkin
Georgiev

Strome 5.5m x 1 year
DeAngelo 4.8m x 2 years
Fast 3.2m x 4 years
Georgiev 2m x 2 years
Lundqvist retires or is bought out
Staal Buy Out
Smith Buried
Draft Gunler and Brisson

The 4 best and most NHL-ready defenders in the organization are all righties. They all need to be in the lineup. That’s the best approach with these players.

Why was Kreider a ticket to an asset haul? The return for him being a rental was most likely going to be a mid-late 1st plus a B prospect and maybe a lower pick. Thats not a haul and we did get the 1st for Sjkei.

. Ok so I guess the bitching and moaning continues from you got it

Well what are you doing? Running around here acting like you actually know anything and trying to rub everyone's face in it.

I don't agree with what the Rangers did today re: Kreider, and I'm going to voice that opinion. Sorry if you have a personal problem with opinions on a message board. I hope you get over it soon. Feel free to put me on ignore.

Yes, I'm gonna continue to advocate that I believe the Rangers need more pieces. I'm not gonna retcon some lineup wherein the Rangers are just fine as contenders to justify my stumping for Chris Kreider for the last two weeks. I think they need more ammo.

I accept Kreider was signed, but it's time to discuss where else those pieces will come from.

We can use more middle6 talent. Which is what Strome is. 3rd line is where Fast belongs. These players slot down and Chytil Kakko Kravtsov slot up. Hopefully players like Howden can develop, give the guy some joooce. Gauthier. A player like Barron may come over and help. We still have a solid player in Lemieux.

Kreider - Zibs - Buch/Kakko/Kravtsov
Panarin - Strome/Chytil - Kakko/Kravtsov
Lemieux - Strome/Chytil - Gauthier/Kravtsov
Barron - Howden - Fast/Gauthier

a potential 2021 lineup... thats not a bad lineup. Obviously its paper and potential but its not as if it lacks talent. Its not as dire as you make it sound. Yes, we can use more talent.... that can be said for any team.

You're muddying the waters. Bozak and Steen are not 2nd line players or top end talent. They're middle 6ers at best, 3rd liners at worst. Washington did not have 2nd liners on their 3rd line.

Agree in principle that we need middle 6 talent like Strome and Fast on this team. The question I have is how realistic is it to get everyone listed above signed to reasonable contracts that A) fit under the cap through 2021 and B) don't cause major issues to keeping the core guys around beyond 2021?

In the cap world, roster turnover is inevitable. And in this case, it feels like if we choose to keep guys like Fast and Strome around through 2021 like you mentioned, it'll be nearly impossible to also keep all of Howden/Gauthier/Lemieux/Chytil/Buch/Kravtsov as well.

I mean, that's kind of a haul. But you don't know what was on the table. Edge has insinuated it was a pretty nice package.

Dude calm down lol. We are all Ranger fans here all on the same team. Just kidding around geez

Anyway other than the Buch/Igor news it was a pretty damn good day. Glad it’s over and we can get back at it tomorrow. Obviously rooting for the playoff push but also now for Toronto and Carolina to hopefully shit the bed since we have one of those firsts

I think if you are targeting people who are "bitching" there are others to look at way before me. I think I've been unarguably reasonable in my reaction to the Kreider signing. I don't agree with it, and my perspective is we now have to find talent elsewhere. Yes, we are all on the same team... I think you need to remember that too based on some of the posts I've seen from you this evening. You didn't "win" just cause Kreider was re-signed any more than any of us "lost." We have different opinions on the direction and immediacy of the rebuild. No one is advocating a 5-10 year rebuild in the lottery every year.
