Com’on, please. All the drafts are a crap shoot, not all trades work, blah, blah, blah. My gosh, 24 months ago they announced a rebuild and they basically ended it today without any depth at center and few wings. They went older and more expensive so we all know what’s on deck . . . have to win with Kreider, Panarin and Zibby in their prime. So trade offf kids for more vets and then pay the kids. Same Old Rangers. Stuck to a rebuild for 2 years

so they should wait till the next group is in their prime? I appreciate your passion for your opinion I just don’t share it. I think the rebuild is still in good shape, you don’t...agree to disagree.

To be clear, I definitely do not think the Rangers were without a choice when it came to signing Kreider.

I think there were deals to be had --- good deals to be had.

Lost in a lot of chatter about what the Rangers did, and whether people fully agree with it, is the aspect that Kreider might have also come down a total of $5.25 million to remain a Ranger as well.

And there's also a good possibility that Buch, not Skjei is the one getting moved if not for some dumbf*ck making a U-turn.
Interesting...

Though, I will say I like Buch better in his role than Skjei was in his.

Of course there's still the chance (likelihood?) Buch goes this offseason to fill the hole created by Skjei. And my guess is, if he is, he brings more value than Brady would've done in the reverse.

I think you almost have to move Buchnevich this summer to get a LD

If they have legitimate goals to make the playoffs next season, you can't go into the year with Lindgren/Hajek/Staal on the top pair

You only move Buch if you are winning the trade.

DO NOT trade him just to get some LD in here. The pipeline has guys coming. Do NOT make a move just to keep afloat next year.

Win the trade, or simply suffer a season without a top LD until the kids arrive.

Now that Skjei is gone... do the Rangers just put Smith in his spot or do they call someone up?

Hajek, Rykov or do they just finish the season off with Smitty?

They said for now it'll be Smith but they'll talk to Quinn about calling someone up

The rebuild was 24 months since the letter.

Besides Barron, who is the tougher forward coming up? Any power on the boards? Wait until the cross ice passes disappear and the game goes to the boards. The team which has given up the 2nd highest shots in the league will do what they do best. Trade for vets b/c now they have to and it’s back to the old Rangers. My gosh, they still have Hank and Staal here and next people will call for a buyout to keep the cap a mess

Yeah, I mean.... you said it.

Ouch.

I think we need TWO more top 6 pieces, and one of them should be a center.

Better hope we hit on these first two draft picks.

disagree. First off prospects are unpredictable who knows who will works. Usually only a couple need significant raises. Plus the Rangers are t a bottom feeder anymore I mean they still want to try and Get in this year. It really wasn’t a bad contract overall. Sure we would have loved one less year but he took less money

don’t worry, the Rangers will trade most of them. They’ll be looking for a Matteau and Noonan after the Bruins out them through the boards

I get it, you’ve been burned by this team as have I, I choose to have faith in this new leadership in the hope of seeing another cup in my lifetime....I’ll never forget Sam saying this one will last a lifetime not realizing at the time it might have to!

no chance in hell.

We're done with big UFA spending.

The only move I can see them making is for a top LHD.... consolidating some of our youth into 1 gem. Like a Werenski... or a Dahlin :naughty:

James Dolan buys Sabres, trades Eichel and Dahlin to Rangers. Problems solved.

is asking to stick with a rebuild so hard? It was miracle it last 24 months but they were doing so well. Nope, rebuild over. We’re ready to win, oops, car accident, big contract. (Blank)

What I do find weird about all of this was that, for most of the season, even going back to the draft, it appeared that the Rangers had no interest in re-signing Kreider. It only seemed to start at the All-Star break.

Continuing improvement in play from Kreider specifically and the whole team (especially after De G being slotted as 3LW) but PRIMARY Shesterkin probably made them change their mind on what acceptable parameters of a deal they were comfortably with (e.g. 5 years to 6, $6.0 m to $6.5).

Honestly, with Shestyorkin being out, if this team bombs the rest of the way and manages to snag Byfield or Alexis, Kreider coulda signed for 10 years and it’d be fine with it

Shoulda come to a wink, wink deal with Kreider to return after trading him. Say, you can have your $7x7 if you just let us trade you first.

Especially when the light was at the end of the tunnel.

A commitment to just one offseason remaking the forwards as they've done with the defense -- one more offseason obtaining a Kakko or Kravtsov type forward, probably would have done it.

doubtful. Obviously the more you have the easier it is to sacrifice to get something you need without killing g your farm system. We are finally in a good position to compete AND continue to build the farm. Rebuilds don’t have a mandate. They do t have to take 5 years. Getting Panarin, Kakko, and keeping CK has accelerated it and that’s fine by me. We aren’t a bottom feeder like the previous two years.

I'm down for Buch+LHD prospect for Nurse.

Nurse Trouba would be a nasty pairing
Lindgren Fox
ADA Lundkvist

They said that the team has a lot of young guys and keeping krieder was to have a veteran leadership. He’s loved and respected by the org. It definitely sounds like a rebuild move to me.
::: shrug:::

Who's to say he wouldn't have gotten a 7-8x8-8.5 mil offer from another team, though?

If he wanted that offer from another team he would have told us to shove our compromise and he would have tested the market. He wanted to be here and he took less to do so.

We should have promised him we would not reneg on that deal and asked him to come back in June.

What you’re describing is why I feel optimistic going forward. When I say the window opens next year, it’s not because I think the ‘rebuild’ is completely done, or that the Rangers are Cup contenders. But, the only big piece I see missing is the LHD that anchors that side. I think Gorton has accumulated enough assets to get that piece. It may or may not be next season, but I think Gorton’s equipped to get it. And, bringing back Kreider allows Chytil, Kakko and possibly Kravtsov to remain insulated.

I think this is exactly what’s happening. Encouraging. Hopefully they are right.
