what do you think a rebuild is? are we suppose to absolutely suck for half a decade? do you wait to all of the young players you draft and acquire are onto their second contracts before trying to put talented players around them? we have already traded mcdonagh, stepan, nash, grabner, hayes, zuccarello, jt miller for young players and picks. the worst team in the nhl has basically a 50 percent change of drafting 4th overall. these days when you are terrible u also need to be lucky to get a cant miss franchise player in the draft. last year we werent as bad as other teams and actually did get lucky to get kakko. rebuilds that take years and years of losing arent rebuilds. theyre just shitty drafting and development.

I don’t think the Newhooks and Studnika’s of the prospect world were out there for Kreider. And I think that’s why he was signed.

I think there may be something to that. A tweet this afternoon said the Rangers tried to drag Newhook into the conversation and apparently weren't successful.

Kreider may have been told to GTFO if the Avs would have parted with Newhook.

Also agreed, which is sad, because you should never make these decisions on three weeks of play. But I also would never believe that it didn't play a big part. If they had gone 2-8 down the stretch instead of 8-2, Kreider isn't here.

What you’re describing is why I feel optimistic going forward. When I say the window opens next year, it’s not because I think the ‘rebuild’ is completely done, or that the Rangers are Cup contenders. But, the only big piece I see missing is the LHD that anchors that side. I think Gorton has accumulated enough assets to get that piece. It may or may not be next season, but I think Gorton’s equipped to get it. And, bringing back Kreider allows Chytil, Kakko and possibly Kravtsov to remain insulated.

I think Buch, our D prospects and possibly a pick brings us that piece.

I doubt it. This wasn't a decision made recently, it was made a while ago that they wanted to keep Kreider.

If everyone hit on their trades like Gorton has it would only take 2 years. Or was a first class org like the Rangers.. Or in NY.

Zibs, Strome and ADA all from trades. Fox wanted to be here.

Being NY afforded us to sign UDFA. Which led to Trouba. Also allowed us to sign Panarin. Having Shesty in the system also helps.

We were a contending team with some talent. A team like the fish sticks or Wild dont have much to offer IMO where it would take 5 years if not longer.

So, yes.. A New York City 2 years.

I'm kinda not interested in trading for a LD any time soon.

I want to see what Miller and Robertson turn into. I'm also pretty sure Reunanon, Jones, or Rykov can be 2nd or 3rd pair D eventually. If we need a top guy, I'd like to see Trouba or DeAngelo over there first.

If I'm going outside the organization, I need forwards still, badly. Let LD sort itself out.... we have tons of improving options.

we started to rebuilding in the summer of 2017 when we traded our top center for deangelo and a 1st. so its really been 3 years. we traded away our top pair LD today when we are in a playoff hunt so making our playoff push for 2021 is more likely now. weve traded damn near every player we had on the 2017 team for young players and picks.

Given this teams current trajectory, I feel good about multiple cup runs within the next decade. I couldn't say that 2 years ago and the moves made today don't change that.

There is no mandate to a rebuild. I mean for god sakes we have the youngest team in the league, a great farm system, and 19 picks in the next two years. You gotta have some leaders too you can’t just have young kids leading young kids. Plus not all prospects work out as we know all too well. This team has gotten better much quicker than expected and will take a big jump next year with Igor and Kakko having a year or so under their belt. The Rangers are ready to start competing for the playoffs. I don’t see the point in intentionally trying to stop that if anything that makes it worse. Rebuilds don’t have to take 5-6 years.

really need Trouba pull his socks way up. Hopefully he gets settled next year and we bring in someone to replace Ruff. I'd feel good about this in that situation.

I think we have a decent sampling of guys who project as middle pairing defensemen and bottom pairing defensemen. I think there's a little bit of road before they quite own that role.

I also think the guys with the higher end skill are a bit further out.

So that tells me there's a good likelihood that there needs to be something there to bridge those gaps. I think that becomes something the Rangers explore in some depth this summer.

That was my thinking as well.
