Whoomp there it is.

I'd be open to it largely because I'm nervous about his health, and we might be able to be selling while he's at his highest value and while we should be loading up on futures. If this means we're forced into a full on rebuild mode, well, is that a feature or a bug?

Trading goalies and getting value back is always a tricky business. What it requires is just one or two desperate teams, that figure they're a goalie away from making a serious playoff run.

The two teams that come to mind in Pacific are the Kings and the Golden Knights......both are familiar with what Demko can do when he's healthy and on his game.

But if Demko survives next week's TDL, then my guess is he stays in Vancouver....since any potential deals in the off-season wouldn't be very lucrative.

Florida probably would have preferred the past few years of Markstrom over an aging Luongo/Bob.
Edit - wasn’t their starting goalie though
Who knows how Markstrom turns out if he stays in Florida though. Goaltending more so than the other positions seems more heavily influenced by coaching and mentality.

I don’t think that’s a trade you make at the TDL unless his body is mangled.

Feel like there is likely a better market and better environment for that trade in the summer.
I guess my question was silly.

He Tom was basically just saying "Dont sell Demko for too low."

given what/where we are, even with the possibility of moving on from jtm, i think you have to keep demko unless he's damaged goods and you're going to keith ballard him to someone.

and while i absolutely hate the anything-can-happen-in-the-playoffs mindset, the single variable that would make me think twice is a goalie who can steal multiple series.

If we are going to trade him I'd atleast wait to see him bounce back because there is definitely a concern about his injuries and recent play from other teams. His value is in the gutter, we would be better off being more patient with Demko and waiting till his value goes up. The only risk is if he doesn't bounce back we would have another bad contract in our hands.

Looks to me like Demko is going to get his groove going again...Good news that we are getting our legit #1 goalie back...bad news for the tank.

Demko is the kind of goalie who, when he's in his zone, can get into the heads of opposing players. I just wish the Canucks were better defensively in front of him.

No goalie should be forced to face breakaway after breakaway; and ridiculous high-danger scoring chances, night after night. That was how he got hurt against Florida, trying to stop three or four chances in a row.

Get a decent blueline in front of him, and Demko still has the potential to be one of the best in the NHL.

Yes and no! Demko is a really good goalie. Who replaces him? That is not saying don't trade him; but you better think hard about it.
