Habs are in no position to trade Beaulieu, but then again most people have no idea what direction the Habs and Bergevin are going in.

Honestly, its hard to tell if even Bergevin knows what direction he wants the team to go in.

Honestly though, if he was a RD I'd consider bringing him to Edmonton. He isn't as proven as we would like, but has the skill set we need.

Montreal is one of the worst run teams in the NHL. It's quite sad

I remember when the Habs went to the ECF a couple years back everyone talked about Bergevin like he as a god among GMs.

Now just a short time later he has been exposed as a random dude who rode a hot Carey Price to success.

What is going on with Pouliot? A year ago, we would have need to add a 1st pick to Beaulieu to get him.

He just hasn't been able to take a spot in the top 6. he played last year when Lovejoy went down, and played pretty well, but then they acquired Schultz and it was back to riding pine.

Well, could be a lot worse. Like being a Leafs fan for example.

Beaulieu's an interesting player. All the tools, strong fluid skater, good offensive skills, just not sure on the toolbox. But the potential is easy to see.

I wouldn't be in a rush to trade him personally, but if the offer was high enough I'd consider it. It would leave a gap on D no doubt, but I think Barberio will surprise a lot of people this year as far as that goes.

The Leafs and Habs are on complete opposite ends of the managerial spectrum right now.

Therrien will nurture him along

Ouch, sorry Habs fans. I'm wondering if the following might work if this rumor is true...

Trade Beaulieu (package or not), sign Russell.

Russell seems to keep getting in trouble when teams play him higher than a 4th D. If you don't do that, you'll be fine, but easier said than done with who you have behind the bench. Russell is only 29 so he's not ancient, but good enough of a stop gap if needed.

The Leaf and Habs are on complete opposite ends of the results spectrum in the last few years. Habs went 4 and 0 last year againts the Leafs. Habs went 4 and 0 the year before against the Leafs. But kudos to the Leafs for having a nice shiny management team I guess.

Will things be different in a few years? We'll see, but for now my apologies if I think it's pretty hilarious to hear Leafs fans criticizing anything Montreal.

Everyone has a right to criticize them, they've been terribly run the last year.

Everyone has a right to criticize them. And I have a right to defend them and give them credit where it's due. Results show that this team's management has done an excellent job, with last year being largely attributable to injury. Not many teams have done better than Montreal in the last 4-5 years.

My only major knock on them last year is not having a qualified NHL backup. They fixed that now.

I can't wait for the season to start. I'm very confident about this group of players and management.

Nichuskin makes sense. Maaaaybe Kreider, but his value is higher than Beaulieu's and inter-conference.

Their handling of this offseason might be one of the worst in the past decade. Between paying an arm and a leg for Shaw, giving up a top 5 dman in the game for Weber, and now this, it's just been awful.

How do you know that? Did I miss this year's hockey season somehow?

How to know someone is talking out of their ass. Ask them a direct easy question and they defer to nonsense.

"I can give you evidence of this being a bad look, but that doesn't mean you'll believe me." Chill dude. I'm referring to the fact that these moves have been universally panned by most intelligent hockey media, which can be backed up by stats, metrics, **** like that. I for example see no way that they improve with Weber instead of Subban. Shaw for Eller is a wash, plus however more they're paying him. They're a playoff team with Price, but it's gonna go downhill fast without PK.

This.

I don't think Bergevin does. What we've seen in Montreal is reactionary off-seasons every year from Bergevin & moves that fit right around the coach.

Bergevin walked into a golden opportunity with the Canadiens. He had a Carey Price, a PK Subban, a Max Pacioretty, a healthy Andrei Markov, promising youngsters Lars Eller, Nathan Beaulieu, Jarred Tinordi, Brendan Gallagher and a number 3 overall pick (Alex Galchenyuk)

We're half a decade into his tenure and he's done the following:

Traded Subban for an older, slower 1D who's going to age quickly (4 years down the road)
Wasted 3 years preaching (they're transition years despite making the ECF in the 2nd year)
Traded Lars Eller for picks after his coach stunted the development by deploying Desharnais much more in roles he couldn't handle (MB's fault for extending DD for 4 years)
Overpaid Alexei Emelin by $1M for 4 years despite him not playing a game after his injury
Hesitated to add a forward for 4 years despite scoring issues (Now put all his eggs into Radulov's basket)
Wasted 4 years on Michel Therrien.

I commend him for adding Petry but man, MB walked into a gold situation and he's legit done nothing with it nearly 5 years down the road.
