Speculation: Teams inquiring about Nathan Beaulieu : Used as bait for a top 6 LW ?

Sure, sergachev could be better than beaulieu and likely will in the future.

However, markov's probably done after this year, and emelin is a 3rd pairing guy.

Unless you plan to get a shattenkirk type player, this makes no sense.

Lol Francois Gagnon is the one saying this, he's never right about anything.

Alot of hockey related people are saying this also, and for a good amount of time. But, let's face it, trading Beaulieu for a LW means MB needs to make another trade for another D. We all agree it won't happen, at least, not before the start of the season.

Why would we trade for him a top 6 LW? That would be incredibly stupid, we have guys like Carr, Ghetto, Hudon and Lehkonen who have the potential to fill that spot (or we can have Shaw play on his offwing).

If we're moving Beaulieu i'd add 1 or 2 assets to him so we could get a more stable LHD who'd be able to play on our top pair (with Weber).

That being said I can see something around Beaulieu for Yakupov.

First of all the article says that we're looking to acquire a LW for Beaulieu, Yakupov is a RW. Second of all Yakupov is worth a 2nd or even 3rd round pick at the most atm, Beaulieu still holds his value (so that would be a terrible trade value-wise). Third of all we already have Radulov and Gallagher as our top 6 RW'ers, neither of those guys have played LW in their life so you can't put them on their offwing. Fourthly, adding Yakupov would create an unnecessary logjam on our wing, he's not better than any of the prospects we have coming up.

Oh yea and on top of that we don't have the capspace to fit Yakupov on our roster (which is another reason why trading Beaulieu would be dumb, he's a cheap LHD who might be able to play with Weber), so yea your proposal has alot of issues :).

Unless we think Sergachev is ready to play in the NHL i dont understand why we'd move Beaulieu.

If the Habs trade Beaulieu for LW depth, who will they trade for LD depth?

I don't really think Beaulieu is a top pairing dman anyways. We have a need for a 1LD with or without Beau.

I am ok with trading him, assuming we can get a 1LD elsewhere.

Can Petry play on his off-side?

Wasnt Shaw supposed to play in the top six... so we paid 4 mill and traded two seconds for a third liner. I cant be the only one who thinks thats an overpayment

Shaw is a center/RW (ideally a RW), i dunno how well he can play on his offwing (LW).

Does it have to be a LW?

Bozak + Marincin for Beaulieu + Andrighetto?

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Radulov
Desharnais - Plekanec - Gallagher
Carr - Bozak - Shaw
Byron/Matteau - Mitchell/Danault - Flynn

Lol Habs fans. 2-3 days after that fake rumors from Villeneuve, you now fall for this Gagnon guy.

Why not try and put one of the young guys in that spot? Carr/Hudon/Andrighetto should all be in the NHL. Then you won't have to fill a hole in the defense

Beaulieu is our best option for the top pairing w/Weber (unless Petry can play his off-side).

But, Beaulieu is not currently a top pairing dman on almost every team. I don't know why Habs fans are so against moving him, we have a hole on the top pairing with or without him.

Of course we need to fill that role, but we need to as it stands currently.

Nick Foligno (5.5M) + Scott Hartnell (20% retained @ 3.8M) + Jack Johnson (4.35M)

for

Nathan Beaulieu (1M) + Max Pacioretty (4.5M) + David Desharnais (3.5M)

What it breaks down to:

1) Hartnell retained + Jack Johnson for Beaulieu. Habs get their top-6 LW and a suitable replacement on the left side of their D for Beaulieu.

2) A captain for captain swap. Patches doesn't seem to be in favor with Therrien, and could use a change of scenery. Foligno could play with Galchenyuk and put up similar numbers to when he was playing with Johansen.

3) Desharnais is in there for cap reasons

Habs run with this lineup:

Foligno-Galchenyuk-Gallagher
Hartnell-Plekanec-Radulov
Carr-Danault-Shaw
Flynn-Mitchell-Byron

Markov-Weber
Johnson-Petry
Emelin-Pateryn

And the Jackets go with:

Pacioretty-Dubinksy-Atkinson
Saad-Wennberg-Bjorkstrand
Jenner-Desharnais-Dubois/Anderson
Calvert-Karlsson-Anderson/Gagner

Murray-Jones
Beaulieu-Savard
Werenski-Prout

my guts are saying the OIL want Beaulieu for Yak and the Habs are offering Emelin for Yak and this is the sticking point.
MB is getting calls about Beaulieu for sure from others. Habs still need a big scoring left winger, MB might be holding out for exactly that.
