Is this a thing now?

Make up a narrative and then express moral outrage over that manufactured narrative....

Has anyone defended the alleged actions?

No.

Has anyone downplayed the seriousness of the allegations?

No.

You say: "f*** the players who took part in this."

What is it exactly that you know took place?
Not what you believe or have been told by someone else, but actually know.
Who are the players that you know were involved?
Can you name them, and would you be willing to do that in a court of law or at a police station?
If so, did you? I'm sure the authorities would have made great use out of that.

If you can't answer yes to these, or give substantiated answers, you don't know shit about what did or didn't happen.

Imagine being responsible for another incident like this:

I bet you'd feel just peachy, no?

You referenced Duke Lacrosse. I thought you'd like an current update on the accuser
I didn’t reference it, you did and you still didn’t explain what it has to do with this case.

If you’re going to do some dumb cowardly bs handwaving, and I assume you will, save you’re self some time and don’t bother answering.

Mea Culpa....it was another fella that referenced it post #720

His thought was waiting until this case plays out and pointing out the lacrosse situation was a hoax

I guess I was expounding on the outcome/character of the false accuser at Duke

Guess that might be in furtherance of his point that everyone jumped to conclusions there and look at the end result and understanding why he might feel it prudent not to jump to conclusions in this situation

The lawsuit was 3.5M. Hockey Canada paid out $2.9M that year for all their settlements

I'm sure they decided to pay out millions of dollars because the guys were innocent.
Multiple law suits in one year. So once again, you have no idea how much this settlement was for. You are inferring something to support your bias.

It was reported that the majority of lawsuits settled by Hockey Canada were for abuse against young players.

The reason Hockey Canada settled has little to do with guilt or innocence but rather reputation. That clearly backfired...

My position is that I don't know if the players are guilty. Your position is much more difficult because you are arguing in the affirmative. That is why you have to lie or exaggerate.

Could HC have paid out millions? Sure. Did they? You and I have no idea.

If this case was black or white then they would have been charged or exonerated.

In some states, employers can terminate without any reason at all.

I’m coming into this late.. but if you’re asking if someone can be punished at work for stuff outside work.. yes.

I looked for the original post you made for context but gave up. I hate this thread

Yes, in some states you can. We are talking about a group of people with a CBA.

Not sure what you are implying here but I am just relaying my experience in situations similar to this.
Oh, and I appreciate the job offer but I am very happy doing what I do. I also appreciate you telling me how you work for a company worth billions and that compares to the NHL.

I work for one of the largest private equity firms in the world. It is worth much more than the NHL.

You jumped in with your argument from authority. I countered with mine.

Is the notion that rapists should be punished really a political one? I don't watch every debate, but it doesn't really come up.
“Jonathan Crane : Your guilt has been determined. This is merely a sentencing hearing. Now, what will it be?”

For all the “due process” posters, I get that you don’t want to set an unfair precedent. But my question is do you think there is a problem with the culture in junior hockey? If, no, then no point in going further. If yes, how do we fix it? It is already extremely difficult to prove sex crimes beyond a reasonable doubt, and many go unpunished. If the only way to change junior hockey culture is through the court of law, not much is going to happen. Nothing has been happening legally so why expect it to change? If the culture needs to be changed and the legal system isn’t doing it, then something else has to be done
There’s a reason that the legal system isn’t doing it. It being hard to prove simply means we don’t know for certain that someone committed a sex crime. You want to start punishing people where there’s a reasonable doubt they haven’t done anything wrong.

Apart from prevention, it has no solution unless you decide to give up on human rights.

Chalk this one in my original post for “Victim Shaming”

Just a god awful description of women here.

He isn't describing women, he is specifically referring to a sub-culture that some girls in Canada are involved in of their own agency. Only sexist here is you pal.

It’s impossible to be innocent if you are charged with a crime.

They can choose not to pursue because of insufficient evidence.

But that doesn’t mean you are innocent.

And if you are brought to trial, you are either guilty or not guilty.

So try to avoid being arrested or prosecuted.
You are already innocent, until proven guilty. There is generally no need to change this status after a not guilty finding.

Your innocent status only changes when convicted.

One could argue there is a "provisional period" where after an arrest and standing before a judge, that allows the court to revoke certain rights that an "innocent person" should not be subject to ie. being held before trial or other limitations of freedom. This is for obvious practical concerns.

Once again, these players have not been arrested, charged or faced a judge in a show cause hearing.

Already happening to at least one of them.
I don't really have a problem with that. I think businesses should be free to associate with who they want, outside of race, gender or sexual orientation.

It's not following their contractual obligations I would have a problem with.
