Holy shit. On previous debate, I really hope Lindell or Maatta will come too. Long stretch: Heiskanen could really play as a forward too.
There are so many better options for that. Even Nurmi, who is with the team. Jukka Jalonen is not playing hazard games like that.

Looks like its Heiskanen and Nurmi then. I feel like its alright.

They asked Hintz but injury makes him unable to go as we knew.

Yay to Heiskanen.

And still hoping for Haula. Now, normally I'd get the reasoning behind leaving out a 0.5ppg utility forward in favor of someone already present, and I guess those not so impressed by him are looking at his point totals (18+26) this season and drawing that conclusion. But the thing is - about 80% of Haula's points are from the last four months. The guy is red-hot right now.

Based on Lehtinen's words, Haula may still be an option. I do think we go with Nurmi though
I'd say that as long as they don't register Nurmi - because they could do it, like, right now - they're angling for someone else. So we don't really have to make any predictions about this stuff, just watch the roster list.

Youngest member of Team Finland will miss USA and Sweden games. The important one a good practice between the QF is the Czechia match up. He will strenghten the squad well. Finnish D is locked now, it is interesting how his addition will influence PP. GB and Austria games are nice time to get into the team and feel the flow.

Well we got the best d-man in the tournament, hopefully we get Haula aswell.
Fifth after Dahlin, Jones, Seider, Chabot, OEL maybe, if generous. Depends on how you see the likes of Jones, Severson and Hronek.

The second I saw that he commented that I knew that within some minutes you will need to downplay Miro and write something like this😆

Dahlin is great offensively but not as good defensively as Heiskanen. I'd put only Seider above Heiskanen.
Dahlin has been great defensively for a while. The fact that you think Seider is better than Dahlin says all about how little you watch him. Dahlin is a top 10 defenceman in the world, the way he has been playing for the last 5 months, since Krueger got fired. I think he’s just as good as the likes of Fox. But lets not derial the thread too much about Dahlin talk again.

Do you really think Heiskanen is better than Chabot though? Wow.

I just don’t rate Heiskanen as highly as others, that’s fine. Would have let it slide if he said ”we got one of the best defencemen in the tournament” but the implication that Heiskanen is even comparable to a generational player like Dahlin made me a bit upset. I wouldn’t put Heiskanen in the Seider, Chabot bracket either, but it is whatever. I value skill and offensive talent a lot I guess.

You seem to get upset every time someone says "Heiskanen", period.
Absolutely not. Just when people compare him to the real elite defencemen. I think Heiskanen is a fine high end #2D, with elite skating, controlled breakouts and great rush defending. Don't like him being bullied by physical forwards and his lack of high end offensive skill though.

Let it slide, what are you? The police? Hfboards are opinions. Its fine if you think Dahlin is better but don’t slap generational labels on him, that never ends well.

I would be very surprised if Dahlin doesn't become better than Hedman. I stand by that. He has the most creative hockey brain with the puck I have ever seen from a defenceman. I think his toolset, all round ability and skill level still make him a better player than Fox and maybe Makar going forwards. I will say what I believe, not pump the breaks due to a percieved down year in the covid season that I only blame on coaching.

I've seen Dahlin and he is not as good defensively as Heiskanen. Dahlin is better offensively than Heiakanen, but I think Heiskanen's offence is closer to Dahlin than Dahlin's defence. I wouldn't call Dahlin generational, since he is not that and there is way better defenceman than him.

Haven't we had this debate like million times already about Heiskanen, Dahlin etc. ?
Yeah but I hate when this guy comes to trash/downplay Finnish players every chance he gets

I am not sure. Jalonen does not gather 14 best forwards, but certain guys for certain roles.

Hartikainen with Manninen is a lock. Now Granlund sucseeded with them against Latvia, so I believe he has a line there.

Björninen with Mörkö and Mäenalanen are locked pretty much too. So no search for strengtening that line.

It means the possible strenghtenings are looked for the 2nd or/and 3rd line guys. Filppula-Armia seem to be pretty glued. So Pesonen with them also is a player I do not see Jukka dropping lower at least.

So in a way most probable guy that is been looked for is a 3rd line helper to fight for the place in roster with Sallinen, Rajala, Innanen. Do not see that Lammikko place is under threat.

So is the best 3rd liner really Haula? Or maybe Kiviranta could be better fit. If there was memory flash back to U20 and 2016 under Jalonen for Haula, wasn't Kiviranta in 2019 World Champions roster? Kapanen looks more out guy for that role at the moment, but Haula or Kiviranta is a wide open one. Kupari has been free longer than Kiviranta and could be quicker here, but I doubt he will get the call this year.
I doubt anyone joining from NHL would "fight for a place". While Kiviranta is a nice player for an "energy" role, i still think Haula would make that 3rd line more dangerous and as FiLe mentioned is also the more versatile player.

Btw regarding the D-men, some comments about Lindell in that game7 GDT, saying he looked really slow. So who knows maybe his tank is empty for this season or there's some minor injury. In that case i'd think backup options for Heiskanen and Haula are Hakanpää and Kiviranta. Those guys would obviously help the team too, but would be maybe a let down after what we all waited for. So really hoping we get Heiskanen and Haula here.

If constantly being included in various top-10 lists doesn't indicate "elite", I dunno what does. As does having a 10M AAV.

Practically the entire effin' world disagrees with you about Heiskanen, yet you can't help but dump on him every given opportunity. It's hardly rational, no matter how you dress it.

So really hoping we get Heiskanen and Haula here.
Heiskanen was confirmed to join an hour ago.
