I like how Hronek is taking responsibility and is slowly developing into a NHL top 4D. I haven't seen a shot quality like this since Zidlicky. It was a great game for him as well!

Yeah that's true. But all 3 NHL defenders were great (in the 3rd period especially). Rutta surprised me very well. Shame we don't have Sulak. He would do his job here, that's sure.

Think of it as a tax for getting rid of some slow players like Zatovic etc.

That's easy... he is fast, mobile and was our best D last year BUT he was in the AHL. Musil has never made the team, failed in the AHL and never made the NHL but he did very well in Extraliga! It's classic Czech math!

For the record, I really like David Musil so please don't take that as a shot at him but he is basically the exact same player as Polasek and Jordan.

Kundratek should also get some consideration.

I didn't realize Zatovic was 34. I looked him up.. his best season in the KHL was 21 points 3 years ago. He never even came close to the NHL.

Chytil is 19 and got 23 points in the NHL.

I'd say Filip should back his bags because Martin is clearly better.

Even in today's hockey there are players who are visibly trying much harder than others. Usually such players are the less talented ones, and the hustle is needed in order to stay in the line-up. Coaches acknowledge these players and they want to have at least a couple in their team as well. And honestly, I am perfectly fine with that. I will take a hardworker on the 4th line over more talented, but soft perimeter player any day. Think of it as Zatovic or Sekac if you wish. Not to mention energy players are more likely to come through in clutch moments.

I don't think Zatovic should make the team though. I would prefer some younger energy forward. Anyone remember Jarusek? Thought he was going to be an excellent bottom sixer for us for years to come and then seemingly dissapeared. Weird

I got Vrana at 4 on this list followed by Chytil.

I have repik as well near bottom.

In this case... Most these players are 200 foot players who work hard.

I was reading that Detroit (Holland) agreed to allow Hronek to go to World's after the first round of AHL. They ended up losing so it didn't matter but they had an agreement in that if Grand Rapids won, that Hronek was still joining us. If this is true then hats off to Detroit and our guys for making that arrangement.

And for the Zaťovič discussion, I think he will make the team. He was not good last game, but before that he played well. To me it's just a cyclical problem. We have NHLer's so let's put a guy from the extraliga on their line. I honestly think it is in a contract somewhere that we must have extraliga guys on our team. I have nothing against the extraliga but it's not where I'd go if I were trying to build a gold medal team. I see some very good Czechs going to Sweden/Finland (Vrana, Pastrnak, Dostal, Skarek) but I don't see many good Swedes/Finns heading to extraliga. Even in the non pro Olympics last year.. how many extraliga guys were on the Gold, Silver and Bronze teams? That tournament had no NHL or AHL players.

The other thing... why don't we just figure out our Top 6 and let them roll for a little while? Ask Voracek who he wants and let him play for awhile with those guys and get chemistry. This is another Oiler's trademark - the line blender whereby McDavid has a different winger every night. It'd be better if we established our top scorers and got them together and built something. At least they can run the score up agains the weaker nations as well so we don't have 2-1 nailbiters with Great Britain.

Instead, we usually 'mix it all up' and then in a big game we put our big guys together and lose. It's a self serving prophecy! For instance, we put Voracek with Zatovic against a very Euro based Finn team. He doesn't score. Then, tomorrow, against a very NHL based Swede team we'll give him some good linemates but he might not score either. Now people start blaming Voracek saying stupid shit like 'see, the NHL guys don't help'. We did this at Juniors as well when we purposely kept Necas/Zadina/Kaut apart until the elimination game. In no way did that work. Or Pytlik at U18's. It's like we are scared to have too many goals or too many scorers. We're still very much in the Top 6 and Bottom 6 mentality that was dumped years ago by the Big 5. Our coach will probably cut an NHL player because we already have enough in the Top 6 and we don't need those kinds of players in the bottom 6.
