Pelech is paired with Makar for me, so he’s top 4
You know what team Canada does, is they don’t leave off elite defensive d men, like ever. Pelech is likely regarded the best defensive d man on earth. He’s on the team period. Barring injury

Boylen from Sportsnet put out this roster with these combinations. It's not very good. Most people here have made better rosters.

Marchand Crosby Bergeron
Stamkos McDavid MacKinnon
Huberdeau Point Marner
Tavares Couturier Stone
Scheifele

Theodore Makar
Hamilton Pietrangelo
Rielly Ekblad
Doughty

Hart
Fleury
Binnington

I didn't read the blurp on top just scanned the roster...and thought to myself, that's a strange roster for Jack! He's fallen and hit his head.

Ah yes, fell down and broke my crown. I'll probably do one around Christmas and then guess at what Hockey Canada will do in January. The defence is a lot harder to predict this time around than it was in 2014.

I have not mapped the team out 100% yet, i tend to wait till just after new years.

But so Far, i have in pen

Stamkos---McDavid---Point
Huberdeau---MacKinnon---Stone
Marchand---Crosby---Bergeron <--Sid gets what Sid wants

Tavares---O'Reilly---Marner
Couturier---Scheifele

Top 3 lines look to be in Pen , the rest will muddle out

My injury replacements list,in no order, Couture/Barzel/Perron/PLD/Kadri/Mangiapane/Duchene/Hyman/Staal/

Theodore---Pietrangelo
Rielly---Ekblad
Makar---Hamilton
Doughty

That's 5 right handers already ,

,IMO we need 1 more LH or plays left side my candidates,
Weeger,Pelech,Muzzin,Nurse --the rest are my top injury reserves

in net?? what a mess,,not even going to use pencil till after xmas

The D certainly is tough to figure out this time.

Your list certainly is good if we want to push the pace though:

Each pairing having one of the top 5 ranked puck movers (at least according to the Athletics data) would work out pretty good and those other guys are no slouches in that area either.

Why on earth would you take both Theodore and Pietrangelo and then not play them together? Just....what

I like the bones of that team, but...

Pelech will be on team Canada.

I think so too. Fills a very clear need for Canada's defence.

I don't think that those two need to play together but pairing Theodore with Makar is.... not what I hope to see.

Yeah if they're both going you might as well put Tavares with Marner, they already have good chemistry. Either ROR or Couturier in the middle would make sense as a 4th line.

McDavid - MacKinnon - Stone
Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron
Huberdeau - Point - Stamkos
Tavares - O'Reilly - Marner
(Couturier)

Toews - Makar
Weegar - Ekblad
Pelech - Hamilton
(Theodore)

Fleury
Binnington

McDavid - MacKinnon - Stone

Huberdeau - Point - Stamkos
Tavares - O'Reilly - Marner

Fleury
Binnington
Pietrangelo is already on the team

I like the "pen" forwards and I like the defencemen other than Rielly.

Marchand - McDavid - Stamkos
Huberdeau - MacKinnon - Stone
Tavares - Crosby - Marner
Couturier - Bergeron - O'Reilly
ex. Scheifele - Point

I think the forward group is pretty easy.

(Couturier)

The forwards are solid but that defense lacks proper international experience minus Ekblad. Most of them haven't played for Team Canada since they were teens.

On top of that, none of the six defensemen have even been to a Stanley Cup final let alone win one.

This lack of experience under duress is how good teams (on paper) fold in knockout games. They need someone to look up to and that's likely why Pietrangelo was one of the first names on the team. I would imagine Theodore will also make it into the top 4 with another experienced defenseman getting a spot in the bottom pairing (i.e. Doughty).

The last one isn't guaranteed but I can easily see it happening.

He leads the NHL in takeaways and is the best player on the ice whenever I have seen him play this year, I don’t know why you’re so turned off, it’s not as if we are straddled with someone who is Seth Jones-level bad

He hasn't had a strong year so far. He was pretty great before that so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but most of his fancies have fallen off a cliff this season. And he hasn't really been that productive offensively since getting to Vegas.

I would've just named Makar as my first defenseman and allowed myself more time to evaluate the other guys but I guess they were trying to build their leadership group. Of course the States should have just named Fox as well.
